anyone who covets a merry and lighthearted
christmas atmosphere should decorate their
home in colors like red, green, and white. The
festive charm of these typical christmas colors
is particularly pronounced when they are
combined to form attractive arrangements
that remind us of our childhood. For example, how about an appealing scene with
milk, cookies, and the impressive »santa
claus,« »santa’s reindeer,« and »santa’s
sleigh?« This nostalgic sight reminds us of the
custom of leaving out a little sustenance for
santa claus to help him on his long journey.
after all, nothing is as exciting for children as
the anticipation of waiting for presents.
The heartwarming winter wonderland is
primarily created through casual and surprising
compositions. For example, window handles
can be adorned with the »christmas wreath
ornament,« a red bow, and a fir branch.
coupled with little details like these, delicate
branches with red berries add a particularly
fresh and relaxed flair. They draw on the red
tones around them and come together with

ave you ever wondered how
the magnificent swarovski
crystal creations are developed? These are extremely
dear to us and are created
with a great deal of creativity, dexterity, and
precision. Today, i would like to explain the
development process behind the »scs annual
edition 2016 Lion akili.« The lion motif was
voted for by the members themselves. However, in general, the ideas for a new piece, or
even an entire new collection, are developed
by a creative team of marketing experts, product developers, and designers. once a basic
motif has been determined, the design phase
can begin.
swarovski Designer Heinz Tabertshofer
conducts extremely thorough research in
relation to all of his works. in creating the
»Lion akili,« he browsed photo collections,
watched videos of studies on how lions move,
spoke to scientists, and visited a zoo. in-depth
background knowledge is of paramount
importance for production purposes as it creates
an understanding of how an animal moves,
behaves, and lives. Heinz Tabertshofer uses
this understanding to create detailed sketches,
which in turn act as the basis for a 3D model
made from clay or wax, constructed on a wire
structure. even at this stage, the animal’s
facial expressions and body language are
precisely captured.
The finished design is fed into a 3D scanner
and transformed into a digital computer animation. This enables the designer to virtually
separate the figure’s body parts. For example,
the face or the mane in the case of the »Lion
akili.« The exact size and position of the
facets can also be determined. This is the only
way to ensure the best possible sparkle.
The design then becomes a reality in the
Design center in wattens, where the crystal
pieces are precision-cut and specialists bring the
individual parts together with great care and
skill, gluing them in place for a perfectly finished
creation. For swarovski designer Heinz
Tabertshofer, the moment when an idea comes
to life is always particularly special.
