The conference theme is: “Reflections of the Future.” Eta Chapter Bowie State University and Theta Nu Chapter, University of Maryland are pleased to host this conference. It is mandatory that every undergraduate soror in the region attend this conference along with the Graduate Advisors in order to conduct MIP and participate in Step Shows. Other sorors required to attend are Supervising Graduate Chapter Basilei, and members of the Graduate Advisory Committee. The conference planning team is working hard and preparing an exciting and informative weekend. While Friday evening is optional, there will be sisterly relations activities and a ”Heart to Heart” chat with the Regional Director. We welcome you to wear your school or AKA paraphernalia, let down your hair, and enjoy one another in a relaxed atmosphere of sisterhood. On Saturday, we will begin the session with the Rededication Ceremony. The attire is business, no pants. The conference will include informative presentations for enhanced programming, chapter operations and sisterly relations. Sorors will have the opportunity to share best practices. Online registration for the Undergraduate Round-Up will close on September 14, 2015. Registration will be available online via our North Atlantic Region Website (www.akanorthatlantic.org). THERE IS NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION. Hotel reservations are now open. Please note that the block of rooms being held for Friday, September 25th at the conference rate of $99.00 plus state and local taxes will close on Friday, September 4, 2015. After that time, rooms will be subject to the best available rate. Information on hotel reservations is included in this packet. There will be a nonrefundable deposit charged per room. Hotel room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes in effect at the time of checkout (currently13%). Parking is complimentary. You can make reservations by calling Passkey at (877) 212-5752 or use the custom passkey website/URL https://resweb.passkey.com/go/8bca7d2a. When making reservations, refer to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Undergraduate Round-Up. PLEASE NOTE: AFTER THE CUT-OFF DATE OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2015, YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO THE HOTEL’S BEST AVAILABLE RATE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY GO UP TO $249! MAKE SURE TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS BEFORE THE CUT-OFF. Conference registration will begin at 6:00pm on Friday, September 25, 2015 and at 7:30 am on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. We encourage the Friday overnight stay for sorors who will travel a distance. Please be reminded, the conference is scheduled to conclude by 5:00 pm. The agenda is quite comprehensive and we wish to execute the planned activities in a smooth, accommodating manner. Therefore, your timeliness is essential. Eta and Theta Nu Chapters will work extremely hard to make sure that your visit to North Bethesda, MD is an enjoyable one. 7 Directions From Points North (New York Wilmington Baltimore): Take Interstate 95 South. Take 495 towards Silver Spring. From 495 take Exit 34. At the end of the exit there is a yield sign. Merge onto the left. That will take you to 355 N. Drive 2 miles. Make a left turn on Marinelli Road. (Hotel on right hand side) From Points South (Frederick Richmond Springfield Alexandria): Take Interstate 95 North. Take 495 North towards Tysons Corner. From 495 N take 270 North. Take the very first exit that is Democracy Blvd. East. That will bring you to Old Georgetown Road. Make a left on Old Georgetown Road. Drive 2 miles. Make a right turn on Executive Blvd. (Hotel on left hand side) From Points West (Front Royal, Fairfax, Falls Church, Rosslyn): Follow Interstate 66 E. Take 495 North 270 North. Take the very first exit that is Democracy Blvd. East. That will bring you to Old Georgetown Road. Make a left on Old Georgetown Road. Drive 2 miles. Make a right turn on Executive Blvd. (Hotel on left hand side) From Points East (Annapolis Eastern Shore): Take 495 West. Take exit 34. At the end of the exit there is a yield sign. Merge onto the left. That will take you to 355 N. Drive 2 miles. Make a left turn on Marinelli Road. (Hotel on right hand side) From Points Northwest (Frederick, Germantown, Gaithersburg): Take 270 South. Take Exit 4A (Montrose Road East) At the fork keep right and make a turn right on East Jefferson and cross Old Georgetown Road. On your left hand side you will see the hotel. METRO – Take the Red Line towards Shady Grove. Exit at White Flint Station. The hotel is to your right. Cross the street and you are within walking distance. 8 Service Project Project Backpack 2015 Each undergraduate chapter is asked to bring a minimum of 2 backpacks filled with school supplies. 9 Alpha Kappa Alpha Pride: Sisterly Relations Activities Meet 4.0 Club – Sorors receiving a 4.0 during the 2015 Spring semester will be recognized during the conference (see instructions inside this registration booklet for submission information, page 16). Meet North Atlantic Campus Leaders - A special video presentation will be shown recognizing sorors serving in leadership positions on campuses in the Region (see instructions inside this registration booklet for submission information, page 16). 10 Alpha Kappa Alpha Pride: Sisterly Relations Activities Meet North Atlantic Region Campus Queens - A special video presentation will be shown to honor our sorors serving as current campus queens in the Region (see instructions inside this registration booklet for submission information, page 17). Meet North Atlantic Leadership Fellows - A special video presentation will be shown recognizing current Leadership Fellows in the Region. 11 Undergraduate Sorors T-SHIRT AND JEANS Kick-off the 2015 North Atlantic Region Undergraduate Round-Up on Friday night and wear your favorite college or AKA T-shirt, jeans or paraphernalia. REFLECTIONS OF YOU Friday night explodes with excitement. Take selfies as you arrive and participate in Sisterly Relations Activities. Anticipate a selfie photo challenge. STEP AND REPEAT Take photos with the North Atlantic Region’s pink and green backdrop. UNDERGRADUATE ROUND-UP PICTURE FRAME PHOTO PROP Take photos with the NEW picture frame photo just for you. HEART TO HEART WITH THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Undergraduate sorors are invited to pull up a chair with the Regional Director for a candid conversation. Sorors will have an opportunity to share with the Regional Director what is on your heart. The Regional Director will share what is on her heart. Alpha Kappa Alpha Pride: Sisterly Relations Activities 12 COURAKAGEOUS Conversation A precursor to the Heart to Heart with the Regional Director, undergraduate sorors will have an opportunity to express what they need and how they feel. This activity is an adaptation of the TV show “Being Mary Jane” where Mary Jane is known for using Post-it notes to write thoughts and inspirational messages. There will be several boards and Post-it notes to share the following: A-My most memorable Alpha Kappa Alpha experience K-What I need to know about Alpha Kappa Alpha A-Sisterly thoughts and inspirational messages STEP/STROLL AND CHANT SHOWCASE Undergraduate sorors will teach each other steps, strolls, chants and also create new ones. Alpha Kappa Alpha Pride: Sisterly Relations Activities 13 Alpha Kappa Alpha Pride: Sisterly Relations Activities Graduate Sorors “THINK HBCU” PARADE Interested graduate sorors are invited to wear their favorite HBCU T-Shirt and be the half-time show on Friday evening. Graduate sorors can bring signage and props to put on a grand half-time show. THE VIEW An adaption of the “The View” talk show, Graduate Advisors will be presented scenarios and they will provide input on how to handle the situation. The Regional Director will have an opportunity to provide guidance and clarification. 14 4.0 Club The 4.0 information will be taken from the spring 2015 grade reports. Graduate Advisors must submit a grade report no later than August 15, 2015 to nargradessubmission@gmail.com. Campus Leaders To celebrate the North Atlantic Region Campus Leaders, sorors who are current officers (2015-2016) will be featured in a video at the 2015 Undergraduate Round-Up. Campus Leaders must submit a high quality photo in jpeg format wearing business attire or head shot to 2015undergraduateru@gmail.com.
