Dear Parents/Care Givers,
Reports
Teachers are currently working very hard to write student reports. Many hours go into the analysing of student
data and work samples to determine grades. Reading through the reports, it is pleasing to see the large number of
students receiving a ‘high’ for effort. Striving to achieve their personal best is a valuable life skill our students are
demonstrating on a daily basis.
These reports will be issued to parents at parent/teacher interviews in Week 9 of this term.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher interviews will be held in Week 9. Kinder and Stage 2 on Wednesday 22nd June and Stage 1 and 3
on Thursday 23rd June. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and establish future goals. This
year we encourage all students in grades 3-6 to attend the interview with their parents. This will help foster a
sense of ownership of their learning, which is something we aim to instil in our students.
This term, we are trialling an online booking system for Parent/Teacher interviews. This system was very
successful when we used it to book Kindergarten Best Start appointments at the beginning of the year. A separate
note will be sent home this week with instructions on how to make a booking. Parents will need to make a booking
no later than midday on the day of the Parent/Teacher interviews.
LMBR
We are currently preparing for a new administrative system known as LMBR (Learning, Management and
Business Reform). Schools in the Fairfield area will receive training during the remainder of this term and early in
Term 3 as well as support for deployment. This system is due to go live in September. We will keep parents
informed of any operational changes brought about by this system (e.g. payment for excursion).
Chocolate Drive
Thank you to all of the families who have already sold their box of chocolates for the P&C Chocolate Drive. If you
would like additional boxes to sell, please see the P&C in the hall. Students are reminded to take their fundraised
money to the hall between 8:30 – 9am any day.
Little Athletics
Students are enjoying the Little Athletics program each Monday. During this time they are learning skills to
prepare them for our athletics carnival next term through fun, highly motivational activities. It is wonderful to
see students attempting new challenges and building confidence, moving towards greater participation in
carnival events.
Sausage Sizzle
The next Year 6 fundraising sausage sizzle is next Wednesday 15th June. Students can purchase a sausage
sizzle for $2 at lunch time. Drinks are also $2. We encourage all students to support this fundraising and
enjoy a sausage sizzle on Wednesday.
Zone Cross Country
We would like to wish Helena Carroll, Bailey Ma Chong and Seemail Sliwa the best of luck as they proudly
represent the Horsley zone at the Sydney South West Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 16th June.
Have a wonderful fortnight.

Zone Cross Country Report
On Friday 27th May, Miss Truscott, Mrs Bui and 48 fit and talented runners braved the wind at Brenan Park
for the Horsely Zone Cross Country. The team were great ambassadors for our school and demonstrated
exceptional behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day. Smithfield finished eighth out of the seventeen
schools in the Horsley Zone. Bailey Ma Chong, Seemail Sliwa and Helana Carroll placed in the top eight
and qualified for the Sydney South West Carnival at Hurlstone Agricultural High on Thursday 16th June.
Zahara Moukhallalati placed ninth and is a reserve for the regional carnival. Well done girls! Special
congratulations go to Helana who finished first in the 10 year old girls, what a fantastic achievement!!
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Thank you to all who supported and participated in Australia’s Biggest Morning
Tea. The students enjoyed a range of delicious treats while raising a total of
$483.00. Each dollar donated will assist in the fight against cancer and will fund
the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, education and support services.

Stage 2 Excursion
Stage 2 students had a great time visiting cultural sites in the city on Tuesday 24 May. We explored the
Aboriginal exhibit at Art Gallery of NSW and had the opportunity to view other important works by famous
artists like Picasso and Monet. We also toured Hyde Park Barracks and learned about Sydney’s convict
history. Students heard about convicts’ living and working conditions, what they ate and the horrible ways
they were punished. After these great learning experiences we enjoyed lunch in Hyde Park before returning to
school exhausted and full of knowledge.
