President’s report
Allocation report
United Way of Walla Walla County
(UWWW) relies on the generosity of
people like you and your neighbors to
help one another in times of need. It is
truly remarkable that despite another
difficult economic year, our community
once again came together to support
UWWW and raised more than $446,000.
These funds will help support critical
needs in education, health and income
in Walla Walla County.
Our campaign success and ability to
make a difference would not be possible without the financial support
and contribution of time by countless individuals and companies. The
significance and appreciation of this cannot be overstated.
Thank you to our Allocations Chair Duane Meidinger and his
dedicated team, who spent many volunteer hours to review the needs of
partner agencies and ensure that funds were appropriately allocated to
programs that support the UWWW mission. These agencies and their important work will improve the lives of thousands of community members.
In addition to working on the immediate needs in our community
over the past year the UWWW board of directors also completed its longterm strategic plan. This new plan provides a road map for continuing
our support for critical community needs, while also working to identify
and address the most pressing issues in the county. We have made
considerable progress in our transition to a community impact model,
and we look forward to working together to create change in areas that
are most needed and desired based on research and input from our
community.
I want to thank the members of the board for their efforts on the
campaign and toward developing and implementing the long-term
strategy. I would also like to recognize our campaign chairs, Wilber and
Karen Pribilsky and Jason and Suzanne Pribilsky for their key roles in
supporting the campaign and attracting new donors. Finally, thank you
to the many campaign coordinators and the volunteers for their work
that supports UWWW.
Thank you all for giving, advocating and volunteering to make all
this possible.
Gordon Wicher, board president
The United Way Allocations Committee members spent many
hours reviewing background materials submitted by member
agencies. These materials shared a description of last year’s
operations, interactions with other agencies, challenges they
face, goals for the future and their funding request. The committee review also included presentations by each member
agency followed by questions posed by committee members.
The process reinforced these facts about our valley:
1. Basic needs are being met by many caring nonprofit
agencies—15 of which are United Way partner agencies.
Their stories brought tears to the eyes of allocations committee members.
2. Walla Walla is very fortunate to have such a caring community that gives generously
to this process through the members of the Allocations Committee, who represent a good
mix of community organizations.
3. In spite of challenging economic times, the citizens and businesses of our valley
continued their giving at a level consistent with last year’s campaign. What a great statement of support of the United Way and its partner agencies.
Duane Meidinger, allocations chairman
Campaign report
Once again, citizens throughout Walla
Walla County demonstrated their commitment to building healthy and vibrant
communities that address the needs of our
youth, elderly and marginalized members
by supporting this year’s United Way
campaign. Despite continued economic
challenges, there was a generous outpouring of support. We are very grateful
to the many individuals and businesses
that contributed to the success of the
campaign. Because of their caring and generosity, and the work of hundreds of dedicated
volunteers, together we raised $446,390—an increase over the previous campaign year!
This success in a difficult year speaks well of the people in our community. The local
agencies supported by the United Way help people of all ages and meet many needs
within the county. We are grateful to all who help make this work possible.
Karen, Wilber, Jason and Suzanne Pribilsky, campaign co-chairs
