God chose the last, the youngest, the ignored, because he looks at the heart of persons and knows the future; He also knows what He is going to achieve through the persons He chooses. The poor and the humble have a future because God looks on them. God doesn’t choose qualified people to carry out His mission; he qualifies the people he chooses. FOLLOW ME! March 30, 2014 HUMOR CORNER The 98 year old Mother Superior was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable. They gave her some warm milk to drink but she refused. Then one of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen. Remembering a bottle of whiskey received as a gift, she opened it and poured a generous amount into the warm milk. Back at Mother Superior’s bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more, and before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop. “Mother,” the nuns asked anxiously, “Please, give us some wisdom before you die.” She raised herself up in bed and with a pious look on her face said, “Don’t sell that cow.” KNOWLEDGE IS LOVE, LIGHT AND VISION Helen Keller used to say: “ I got used to the silence and the darkness that surrounded me and forgot that it had ever been different until she came –my teacher– who was to set my spirit free. A power divine touched my spirit and gave it life. From that sacred moment, I heard a voice which said, ‘Knowledge is love and light and vision!’” Although Keller never regained her sight or her hearing, she went on to experience the beauties and mysteries of life with such clarity that she was able to share what she called her “soul’s sudden awakening” with others. In her blindness, she has helped many to see; in her deafness, she has enabled many to hear. SOMETHING TO PRAY AND THINK ABOUT May God send you enough joy to keep your heart singing, enough sorrow to make you understanding, enough hope to enrich your life, enough trials to keep you strong, enough leisure to refresh your spirits, enough love to make the world seem beautiful. Page Four March 30, 2014 Fourth Sunday of Lent The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. — Psalm 23:1 Sunday’s Message John 9: 1 - 41 “The man said, ‘Lord, I believe’, and worshipped Him”. In today’s Gospel we see that the man born blind has no previous knowledge of Jesus or His identity, but meeting Jesus changes his life and his outlook on life and its purpose. His belief in Jesus and his acceptance of Jesus as Lord mean that he will never be the same again. I WAS BLIND AND NOW I SEE Jesus cured a man blind from birth. He put mud on his eyes and commanded him to go and wash in the pool of Siloe. As he felt the water on his face, he began to see. (John 9:1-41) Until that moment the life of this man was reduced to Pastor’s Notes begging for alms, without being able to see whoever helped him. Now his life changed. Initially, he did not see Jesus, but felt His kindly hands caressing his face with the soil of the earth. And when the religious leaders asked him, harassing and insulting him, he answered full of faith: “One thing I know: before, I was blind and now I see.” There was a marvelous and famous American woman who died some years ago- a model of overcoming tremendous obstacles. Her name is Helen Keller (1880-1968). She was not born blind, but at the age of 19 months, suffered a terrible illness which left her blind and deaf. In spite of her many other talents, she withdrew into total Let us ask the Lord to open our silence, interrupted occasionally by confused shouts of frustration eyes to the areas of our lives and rage. that stunt our spiritual growth One day, Annie Sullivan, her teacher and friend, placed the hand of and knowledge.
