Football fans are crazy this time of year. Pumpkins, multi-colored leaves and crops being harvested become part of the landscape. The change of seasons is also a reminder that this is a season of change for Christians here in America. Bible believing Dr. Rick Stevens Christians are not dying out here, but it is definitely a season of change. I want to point you to a scripture that is good for us to hear. 2 Thessalonians 3:13 says “… do not grow weary of doing good.” We do need to hear that in America. Churches are different in many ways today in Main Street America. Programming is different, styles of worship are varied, and many churches are smaller than they once were. Our culture is becoming more hostile to Christian values and to Biblical teaching. Many churches have struggled to accept change and become more inwardly focused. Conflict pops up frequently in churches. All of these things can cause us to become weary in doing God’s work. I have met people who have become burned out on church and have seen pastors and members who have been burnt by church conflict and disillusionment. Maybe you are one of those people. There is hope! We simply have to look for at the right things. In the Luke account of the Easter story, two heavenly visitors meet the women who have come to prepare the body of Jesus. As they come to find his body, they are asked “why do you seek the living among the dead?” I mention this because all of us need to be looking for the Living God! He is still alive and active. Many people are very open to our sharing Christ with them. I see some churches that are pursuing fresh vision and reaching people. I am excited by what I am seeing on the mission field! People are being called and sent and people are responding to the gospel. Are you in love with a specific model of church, or are excited to see the ways God is working to help churches adapt? Are you aware that our media does have the effect of making us think God is not wanted or needed? Are you personally spending time with God on a regular basis? He is alive and active today! I met a young lady just the other day, who had met Jesus Christ recently. She was glowing with excitement as she talked about how God had changed her life and her family. That was here in Clarksville. Are you growing weary? Look for the Living God! Stale, tired churches and Christians are growing weary. However, God is doing amazing things around us. Are you looking for the living among the dead? Think about it… PLEASANT VIEW ordained Sam Matthews to the gospel ministry.
