From the Missionary
I am excited for March to arrive!
After the snow and cold of February,
I am hoping for a bright change to
spring. However, I did have a
thought when snow covered the
ground and change the look of the
landscape for a few days. When you
sprinkle a layer of snow on
Rick Stevens everything, it looks better. Before
the snow is disturbed it makes even the messy things of
the world look neat. As we know, that does not last
long, but is pretty for a while. That scene led me to
consider how our view changes when we draw close to
God. Being in His Word and in His presence makes us
begin to see things in ways that He sees them. But,
when we draw away from God, we quickly go back to
seeing them the way the world sees them. How is your
vision lately?
There are a couple of things I want you to know about
this month. First, we are excited about an opportunity
to get a sneak peak at the new movie from the makers
of “Fireproof.” They are releasing a new movie this
year that shows the power of prayer. We will be
showing that to pastors, staff and wives in late April. Be
on the lookout for details. Second, we are excited
about the Bivocational and Smaller church pastor and
wives retreat that will happen on the last weekend of
March. We will be at Paris Landing State Park and we
will join with the Associational Churches under Bro.
William Gray for this great event. Finally, I know you
area already gearing up for VBS this year. Our annual
clinic on April 13 will be powerful. Make sure your
calendar is marked for that event.
As I close, let me share one final thought. My wife,
Shirley, and other ladies in our Association have
established an encouragement group for pastor and
staff wives. They meet about once every six weeks or
so. We have seen several wives who have been
involved in that group. The premise of that group is
that Ministry Wives face some real challenges. Are you
praying for your Pastor or Staff Wives in your church?
Have you expressed gratitude for her lately? Many of
them are very active in our churches and in the ministry
of their husbands. Take time to let them know how
special they are!
