IT IS RARE TO BE MET WITH A STIMULUS
THAT IS MOVING; A STIMULUS THAT IS
THOUGHT-PROVOKING. A STIMULUS THAT
INSPIRES AND MAKES AN IMPACT.
UNTIL NOW.
WELCOME TO IE
IE HISTORY
IT ALL BEGAN....
20TH CENTURY
In 1973, IE Business School opened its doors in the heart of Madrid’s
financial district offering MBA and Law programs. The school went
on to create new units, including the Center for Entrepreneurship, a
cornerstone of the School’s innovative spirit, and the Alumni Association. The IE International Advisory Board, the IE Foundation, and the
US-based IE Fund followed, promoting scholarships and research,
and finally the Business Leadership Forum was launched to gather
the insights and knowledge of leaders from the worlds of politics,
economics, and business. IE began its international foothold with the
opening of offices in various countries.
21ST CENTURY
The first blended programs were launched, placing IE Business School
at the forefront of e-learning in Europe, and accelerating the School’s
internationalization. IE began joint initiatives such as the Sumaq
Alliance with leading Latin American business schools, as well as
agreements including the partnership with Brown University in the
United States which resulted in the IE Brown Executive MBA. IE’s Law
and Tax programs, launched in 1973, gained further impetus in 2007
with the creation of IE Law School. The program portfolio continued
to expand, growing from 15 to 31 master degrees between 2004 and
2010. IE Business School now has student exchange programs, executive education alliances, and joint research projects with more than
50 prestigious business schools in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and
Asia. Once again, IE challenged established roles: the Business School
created an undergraduate university. Established in 2006, IE University
is a major landmark in the history of management, offering international undergraduate education through IE School of Communication, IE
School of Biology, IE School of Architecture and Design, and IE School
of International Relations.
4|5
IE is an eminently international institution dedicated to
preparing future leaders through programs based on its
core pillars: an entrepreneurial spirit, social innovation,
diversity and humanities.
IE is at the forefront of applied research and combines
this with comprehensive multidisciplinary educational
programs.
Designed to respond to the demands of the market,
IE’s innovative learning methods, which combine
both online and face-to-face formats, are once again
testament to IE’s position as a pioneer institution in
international education.

IE PILLARS
Everything from creating new programs to selecting faculty or
defining program courses, is based on our main pillars. These
pillars make up our DNA and define who we are...
www.ie.edu/values
ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT
The fact that over 10% of our students create their own company
after graduation proves our emphasis on entrepreneurship. We offer
a number of modules, activities and methods that encourage startups and entrepreneurial thinking. One of the most well-known is the
Venture Lab which is specifically designed to help students develop
and present business plans and ideas to possible investors and venture
capital firms while studying at IE. Students also receive support from
dedicated faculty at every stage of the entrepreneurial process.
DIVERSITY
Thanks to our faculty and student body that represent over 100
countries, IE is one of the most international academic institutions
in the world. Benefiting from globalization is more than acquiring
knowledge or developing a more cosmopolitan mindset. The world
also needs to speak openly about differences and understand the
personal identities of those that shape our professional and personal
environments. Leaders of the 21st century must understand and
correctly manage diversity if they want to maximize the potential
multiculturalism found in organizations.

IE IN 162 SECONDS
SOCIAL INNOVATION
The fact that IE is an internationally recognized educational institution means
that our entire community has both the means and the obligation to contribute
positively to the world around us be it through students, alumni, faculty or staff.
We consider a priority the application of innovation in the fight for social equality
and environmental sustainability. For this reason, social innovation is present in
all of IE’s areas and programs.
Our students encounter a strong feeling of social commitment as they are
inspired and taught to apply this to their careers whether in an NGO, social
enterprise, or a private or public corporation. At IE, we strongly believe that
social innovation is a natural way to continuously impact for the better the
world around us.
HUMANITIES
Including humanities at the heart of our programs enriches the academic
experience and cements the importance of our pillars in our students. As a
result, students are able to cultivate an open mind and critical thinking, two key
elements when tackling professional challenges.
SCHOOLS
The faculty at IE is made up of more than 500 professors
who currently teach a student body representing more
than 90 nationalities in IE University degree programs,
master programs, doctorates and executive education.
IE BUSINESS SCHOOL
IE LAW SCHOOL
Recognized as one of the world’s top business schools, IE Business
School is located in the center of Madrid.
IE Law School’s aim is to prepare professionals by applying business
law to the challenges of a global economy through a vision of
business management.
IE Business School shapes leaders who promote innovation and
change in organizations, equipping directors with an entrepreneurial
mindset that generates employment, wealth and social well-being.
IE students use innovative online and face-to-face learning formats,
where they share knowledge and experience with more than 50,000
IE graduates who currently hold management positions in over
100 countries.
www.ie.edu/business-school
With over 35 years of experience, we have become a national and
international leader in the legal and fiscal sectors due to our
innovative teaching method based on in-class simulations and
case studies. This method allows our students to develop the skills
and competencies necessary to succeed in their careers. In our
classrooms, students face and solve real-life problems. Under the
supervision of top professors and professionals, students work with
different legal systems, advise clients, make business decisions and
experience firsthand how laws are applied.

IE SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION
The vibrant and academic atmosphere at the IE School of Communication
provides the ideal setting to cultivate one’s ability to think and work in a
world where the importance of communication is continually increasing.
Communication is at the core of our lives and understanding this entails
exploring its interaction with interdisciplinary thresholds where innovation
and new ways of approaching reality emerge.
The School’s mission is to successfully prepare communication experts
and provide them with needed practical, intellectual, creative and
management skills such as a strong ethical position and the ability to think
critically. Our students build their international profile in an environment
that fosters diversity, civic duty, teamwork and entrepreneurship. All of
these are key skills used by professionals to innovatively carry out their
work in corporate communication or visual and digital communication,
among other fields.
www.ie.edu/communication
IE SCHOOL OF
SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES
We aim to prepare professionals who are highly qualified in research,
analysis, and leadership, who understand how individuals, groups and
organizations influence behavior.
Social, political and economic environments are facing great change
brought on by new technology, social media and the impact of
globalization. This makes it possible for clients, employees and the public
to connect in entirely new ways. Today, companies and governments have
the chance to improve the design of their organizational and political
structures as well as that of their products and services, adapting them
to human behavior.
However, there are growing difficulties when searching for highly qualified
professionals who are capable of helping companies to better understand
the needs of their clients and of fostering employee motivation and
productivity. Our practical and interdisciplinary training equips students
with the needed tools for professional success and provides them with
the required skills to help companies and governments confront these
increasingly important challenges.

IE SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL
RELATIONS
IE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND
DESIGN
The IE School of International Relations prepares professionals
who are able to comprehend complex international affairs,
manage organizations and take on positions of leadership in
international entities from private, public and third sectors.
The IE School of Architecture and Design trains architects eager to be at
the forefront of design, innovation and management. The School holds
strong ties with both the corporate and academic world. It is also linked to
other prestigious schools and international architectural studios, which
encourages collective projects that add value to the learning process. In
addition, our students have access to three campuses: Madrid’s urban
campus for postgraduate studies, the suburban campus in Segovia for
undergraduate programs, and the IE virtual campus, a global space for
online learning.
The IE School of International Relations is an affiliate of the
Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs
(APSIA), an active platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas
on international relations.

THREE ENVIRONMENTS
MADRID, SEGOVIA, ONLINE CAMPUS.
Located in Madrid’s uptown financial district, IE’s presence has
extended to meet growing demand, occupying a series of sites
conveniently clustered within a minute’s walk of each other, and
consisting of lecture halls, computer rooms, breakout rooms,
a main auditorium, and the IE library. One of Europe’s fastestgrowing cities, Madrid has transformed over the last two decades into a global business center with a cosmopolitan outlook
and a strong work ethic. At the same time, it has retained the
appeal of a European city where it is safe and easy to move
around. Madrid is a major cultural capital that is home to three
of the world’s greatest art collections, with a vibrant cultural
scene, and part of a tradition of educational excellence dating
back to the Middle Ages.
Our Segovia campus is housed in a magnificent 13th century
convent, close to the historic quarter of this ancient city, which
is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A charming provincial capital,
filled with historic buildings, Segovia is known for its clean air
and blue skies. Much of it closed to traffic, it is a manageable
size, and offers a welcome contrast from the hustle and bustle
of the capital, just 25 minutes from Madrid by high-speed train.
The third pillar of IE education is our online campus. For most of
us, our working lives are already largely governed by the possibilities of the internet, and e-learning is by no means a second
educational option. Our award winning blended model offers
people the opportunity to study while continuing with their
careers, allowing them to maintain an appropriate work-life
balance.
16 | 17
Whether studying in Madrid, Segovia, or
online, the focus of all three campuses
remains the same: to help our students
develop their managerial virtues.
This means combining classes with
personalized attention through individual
learning solutions, one-to-one sessions,
tutorials, coaching, and mentorship.
MADRID
Whether you study a full-time program or a blended one,
you will surely visit IE’s campus, located in the center of
the vibrant city of Madrid. The campus is made up of some
20,000 m2, distributed among 17 buildings located in the
Barrio de Salamanca, a neighborhood situated in the heart
of Madrid’s financial district, a strategic location that is
very well-connected.
Ranked as the 12th largest economy in the world, Madrid is
the epicenter of Spanish culture, business, and politics, and
offers the perfect opportunity to conduct international
business. The Spanish capital is home to more than 27,000
national and multinational organizations across different
sectors, as well as the largest Spanish stock exchange.
But there’s more to Madrid than business and politics.
Its geographic location gives it a priceless advantage –
an excellent climate. Enjoy the weather, with a pleasant
stroll on a sunny winter day, or sit down and enjoy the
spring breeze in one of the many “terrazas” (Spanish
cafés). Whether you are looking to learn the basics or
perfect your level of fluency, Madrid is the ideal city to
learn Spanish.
www.ie.edu/madrid
18 | 19
Whether studying in Madrid, Segovia, or
online, the focus of all three campuses
remains the same – to help our students
develop their managerial virtues. This
means combining classes with personalized
attention through individual learning
solutions, one-to-one sessions, tutorials,
coaching, and mentorship.
Madrid represents the stepping stone to
new contacts and opportunities throughout
the continent, and thanks to a common
language, spoken by more than 500 million
people in the world, it has become the
gateway to Latin America.
STUDENT SERVICES AND
PROFESSIONAL CAREERS
STUDENT OFFICE
The Student Office’s services are available to all IE students.
Our main objective is to support our students in non-academic
matters such as administrative issues or language difficulties
that may arise while adapting to life in Madrid. It is important
for us to help students adjust to their new living environment
and we gladly provide information regarding:
• Immigration and residence cards
• Permits and registration certificates
• Accommodation and lease agreements
• Medical insurance
• Mobile phone plans
We offer students personalized advice through seminars and
conferences. We also organize cultural and leisure activities, much
like those organized by the more than 200 existing IE clubs.
20 | 21
CAREER MANAGEMENT CENTER
To our students, being exposed to a diverse and innovative environment like
the one that can be found in our face-to-face and online classes is motivation
enough to choose IE. This experience comes together with professional and
entrepreneurial opportunities that are offered throughout the program and
throughout their lifetime.
In this sense, the Career Management Center’s commitment is twofold:
• To boost the professional visibility of students and alumni
• To give recruiters access to IE professionals that best fit their requirements.
To achieve these objectives, the Career Education team serves as a guide for
students when defining a Strategic Career Plan:
Analysis of
strengths and
motivations
Definition
of personal
niche in labor
markets globally
Use tools and
proactivity in
networking
with targeted
companies
The Career Management Center is supported by a team that identifies talent,
adapting to the needs of company recruiters and institutions in various
industries worldwide. In this sense, IE international offices are a key part to
understanding the specifics of each country’s labor market and identifying
top job opportunities.

ALUMNI
THE IE ALUMNI COMMUNITY

opportunities for all IE alumni. Our values are shared
through a common platform for business with a

INTERNATIONAL REGIONAL CLUBS
The Alumni Community also encourages social ties,
facilitating the connections among alumni to organize
trips, sporting events and other informal gatherings that
help expand their network of contacts.
With activities in each of the Autonomous Communities.
IE students and alumni, proactive by nature, have created
more than 200 clubs and have organized a myriad of
regional events that target multiple industries. Some of
the clubs that are available for alumni are:
With activities in North America, Latin America, Asia, the

In addition, the IE Alumni Association offers IE alumni premium
benefits for those who become members through donations to the
IE Foundation.
Thousands of students and alumni from around the world meet
once a year in Madrid for the IE Alumni Forum, a melting pot of
thought-provoking keynotes where alumni from all industries
establish contacts and network with friends and colleagues. The
Alumni Forum is considered the main event in the calendar of the
IE Alumni Community and reflects our mission – of engaging all IE
community members and promoting their continuous development
in their personal, professional and ethical spheres.
