East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux graduated from the 37th session of the
FBI‟s National Executive Institute (NEI) at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. this
past month.
“Training is critical to our department in order to provide our services to the community every day,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. “Training starts at the top, and it is imperative that I also keep up with new ideas and practices. NEI is an important element of that training and will pay dividends for our department.”
The NEI is the FBI‟s premier executive training initiative providing training for FBI
executives and for the heads of the largest law enforcement agencies in the U.S.
and overseas. The NEI consists of two sessions, each one week long every year.
The training focuses on strategic leadership development and current affairs.
“I am humbled by the honor of being asked to attend this prestigious academy,”
Sheriff Gautreaux said. “I entered a career in law enforcement to serve the public,
and I am blessed by the opportunity to do so. I am dedicated to making sure that my
department stays up-to-date with the latest technology and law enforcement strategies.”
DEPUTIES OF THE MONTH
Deputy Timothy Johnson has been named the Civil Deputy of the Month. Deputy
Johnson was hired by the EBRSO in June of 1999. Deputy Johnson is a great asset
to this office, and is one of the most dedicated employees we have. He is very professional and conscientious in performing his duties and in dealing with the citizens
and attorneys. Deputy Johnson‟s enthusiasm and ability to motivate fellow coworkers has resulted in increased productivity and fellowship.
.
Lieutenant John Presley, Internal Affairs, has been named the Administrative and Support
Services Deputy of the Month. Lieutenant Presley was hired by the EBRSO in April of 1994.
He joined the Internal Affairs Division in August of 2013. Since that time, his assistance in IA
has proven to be invaluable and his performance outstanding. He always projects a professional and courteous demeanor when dealing with the public and therefore portrays the office as a trustworthy and caring entity with respect for the community. His overall exceptional
performance is worthy of acknowledgment and deserving of recognition.
Corporal Matthew Hurley, K-9, has been named the Detectives and Special Operations Deputy of the Month. Corporal Hurley was hired by the Sheriff‟s Office in July of 2008. Corporal
Hurley is always proactive and assists with calls whenever needed. He has been recognized
by the Communications Division as being a tremendous help when the calls are backed up.
He has also received several letters from the general public thanking him for his assistance
with their problems. Corporal Hurley consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty for
the good of the Sheriff‟s Office.
Deputy Rodney Morris has been named the Uniform Patrol Deputy of the Month. Deputy
Morris was hired by the Sheriff‟s Office in September of 2008. Deputy Morris has proven that
being proactive by self-initiating traffic stops can result in a productive felony arrest. Upon
stopping a driver for failure to signal turn, Deputy Morris noticed the odor of marijuana from
inside the vehicle. He then obtained permission to search the vehicle and recovered 424.2
grams of suspected marijuana, as well as a 9mm handgun. The driver and passenger were
arrested and booked with multiple associated charges.
Deputy Trevor Dismukes, of the Parish Prison, has been named the Corrections Deputy of the
Month. Deputy Dismukes has been with the Sheriff‟s Office since June of 2013. He has continued to consistently prove himself a valuable Deputy. Deputy Dismukes has made it part of
his daily routine to search the inmate dorms for contraband while they are eating their afternoon meal. Recently, this lead to the discovery of two shanks and a tattoo needle. Deputy
Dismukes performs his job well and takes initiative to prevent major incidents from occurring.
Too many times, deputies sit around waiting for a supervisor to initiate action, even though
they know what actions should be taken. It is very inspiring to see such a young deputy who
has that type of get up and go .

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Nu Gamma Omega Chapter held a candlelight vigil
on August 14, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol in honor of Aleria Cyrus Reed and all victims of domestic violence. This was the inaugural event of the Aleria‟s Promise Initiative born from the fateful night of January 15th, 2014 where our beloved sorority member
lost her life at the hands of domestic violence.
