Sheriff Gautreaux will be honored with the award given to governmental and civic leaders dedicated to protecting residents. “I am humbled by the honor of being recognized by my colleagues and the community,” Sheriff Gautreaux said. “I entered a career in law enforcement to serve the public, and I am blessed by the opportunity to do so. I am overwhelmed by such an acknowledgement.” The 10th annual ceremonies included a luncheon held at Louisiana State Penitentiary “Angola,” a tour of the prison and a reception at the Museum Complex unveiling an exhibit of the inductees’ lives and accomplishments. DEPUTIES OF THE MONTH Deputy James Harbin, of Kleinpeter Substation, has been named the Uniform Patrol Deputy of the Month. Deputy Harbin has been with the Sheriff’s Office since August of 2007, joining the Uniform Patrol Division in March of 2009. He has continued to consistently prove himself to be a valuable Deputy. He has come to know nearly all the regular suspects in his assigned area. Detectives have come to recognize Deputy Harbin and his knowledge to the point of coming to him for identification of suspects. He has gathered gang information in Village Cote and has been able to pass this information on to the Intelligence Division and BRAVE. Deputy Harbin is able to be proactive in his job without generating complaints from the public, which is difficult to do in this line of work. Corporal Charles Hughes, Sex Offender Registry, has been named the Detective and Special Operations Deputy of the Month. Corporal Hughes was hired by the EBRSO in April 2008. He is credited with locating burglary suspects who fled EBRSO deputies after a short pursuit in June of this year. Hollywood Street residents were thankful the suspects were apprehended. Amy Dedon has been name the Civil Deputy of the Month. Ms. Dedon was hired by the EBRSO in July of 2001. Through hard work and determination, she consistently ensures that the biweekly payroll is accurate and on time. She is a very conscientious worker and her dedication to the EBRSO is very much appreciated. Lieutenant Vaughn Nixon, Range, has been named the Administrative and Support Services Deputy of the Month. Lieutenant Nixon was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in May 2004. He is one of the most knowledgable assigned to the Firearms Training Division. His accolades and training overwhelmingly exceeds that of the average range personnel of this day and age. He has truly earned the title of Master Armorer. His knowledge of all of the intricate workings, measurements, and fittings of various weapons has made him an essential part of the Firearms Training Division. Deputy Frank Harry has been named the Corrections Deputy of the Month. Deputy Harry was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in January of 2011. On June 17, 2014, Deputy Harry was conducting a strip search of a work release inmate and found a bag of suspected synthetic marijuana in his shoe. As a result of this, the inmate was rebooked for bringing contraband into a penal institution. Due to Deputy Harris’s actions, contraband was prevented from entering the jail.
