2016 Cardinal’s Stewardship Appeal
We Did It!!
485 parishioners pledged payments of $152,000 to this year’s appeal. A sign of a truly charitable parish
is its ability to participate in the Cardinal’s Appeal which enables the Archdiocese to provide professional,
charitable and educational services to all parishes. For those who pledged payment over time, the
Archdiocese will send you reminders. For those who have yet to respond you are still very much welcome
to participate even after we reached our goal. Every bit helps.
It is a good feeling when a Pastor is able to “close the books” on the Appeal. Thank you ever so much for
creating that feeling.

Vacation When you are on vacation it is appropriate to
contribute to the basket of the church you are visiting in
thanksgiving for its services to you. It is also very
important to keep up your regular donations to St.
Barnabas. Our bills remain the same, even on vacation
time. Please remember to either advance your
contribution or make it up when you return. Thank you
for your thoughtfulness.
Going on Vacation – Why not use Parish Pay?
It is a method of sending your weekly donation to the parish
via electronics rather than the traditional weekly offertory
envelope. (If you use E-Z Pass you know what it is). You can
register online or the parish can give you a form to
authorize the parish to withdraw donations directly from
your bank account or credit card which in turn gets
deposited directly into the church account. Advantages are
many.
Two easy ways to register
1. You simply go to www.parishpay.com and follow the
prompts to register yourself
2. You can pick up a registration form at the rectory office
and we can do it for you.
St. Barnabas parish is planning to implement the
second of the three part series of ChristLife. As you
may recall, many parishioners attended the first part
called Discovering Christ, which drew a lot of interest
and was a big success during the Lenten season last
year. ChristLife is partnering with the Archdiocese of
New York for the training on the final two steps of the
ChristLife evangelization process: Following Christ
and Sharing Christ.
The training will be Saturday, August 20th at St.
Joseph’s Seminary, 201 Seminary Avenue, from
8:30am to 5:30 pm.
If anyone who attended Discovering Christ would like
to attend this training and be part of the parish’s
evangelization team, please contact the rectory at
(718) 324-1478 by Friday, August 12th .

As Monsignor Barry prepares to go on to his new assignment, all parishioners are cordially
invited to join him in the High School Cafeteria either following the Saturday 5:00pm Mass OR
on Sunday, following the 11:45am Mass for a quick goodbye.
Light refreshments will be served on both days.

Religious Education office or you may drop it off in a
sealed envelope to the rectory office with Religious
Education clearly marked on it. We ask if you are paying

CATECHISTS NEEDED
FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
St. Barnabas Religious Education Program is in need of
Catechists for next year We are looking to cover classes
on Wednesday from 4:45 to 6:15. If interested call
Sharon Traditi at 718-324-0865. You do not need to be
a teacher, just someone who loves our Lord and is
willing to pass on the Catholic faith to our young people.
First Communion and Confirmation Pictures for
2016 please call the Religious Education Office and
make an appointment to pick them up.

Beyond Books
A program specifically designed as a monthly
night out for the Women of St. Barnabas
Parish! The first selection would be the 2007
novel "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova. The first
meeting will take place in the Considine Center
Room 1-6 at 7:30pm on September 12th due to
the Labor Day weekend with subsequent
meetings then held the first Monday of each
month starting in October. Light refreshments

Baptismal Instruction Classes Parents wishing to
have their children baptized at Saint Barnabas must
attend one of the classes that are held normally on the
second and fourth Monday of each month prior to
arranging the child’s baptism. The classes are held in
the Elementary School Library at 8:00pm. No registration
necessary.

Irish Volunteers for the Homeless needs your help!
There’s no better way to get the week off to a great start than doing a
good deed! If you can drive and have a few hours to spare on a
Monday evening once a month, the Irish Volunteers for the Homeless
program run by Aisling Irish Community Center needs your help!
They need drivers (transport provided) to bring volunteers down to
Manhattan on a Monday night and hand out food to the homeless. It
only requires a commitment of a few hours once a month or less, and
is a great act of kindness towards those who are less fortunate.
