In this newsletter, you will find key dates and happenings as we close out the last full month of instruction and begin with state testing and AP testing, too. I have included the schedules for May testing, Commencement, and summer opportunities. For underclassmen, I have also included a calendar with opening plans for the 2015-2016 school year. Please note the additional week scheduled prior to the opening of school for counselors to address your scheduling conflicts and gaps. The last few weeks of school are some of the most exciting of the academic year; on the other hand, closing out any school year is bittersweet. To our graduating seniors, we wish you all the best, but know this: You will be missed here at BHS. We are proud of both your efforts and your accomplishments, entirely confident of the bright futures in store for each and every one of you. Go forward with your lessons from high school and show the world what BHS Bruins are made of! Dates to Remember! Friday, May 29th – LAST DAY OF SCHOOL / (NOON) EARLY RELEASE While we spend the next months preparing for the 2015-2016 school year, please understand it has been met with some difficult staffing decisions at Blacksburg High School and across the MCPS division. Although we are not losing any program in its entirety, students will experience increased class sizes and fewer class offerings in order to adjust to the changes. Students will receive a letter and an additional opportunity to complete a full schedule prior to the first day of school. (See Scheduling Calendar) Again, congratulations on a successful school year and to our 2015 BHS graduates. Way to go!!! Volume 9 Issue 3 Page 7 Volume 9 Issue 3 Page 8 Legacy Campaign Update $5,590 Matching Funds Still Available! Last year, the PTSO started the annual Legacy Campaign to raise funds to meet specific academic needs of the school. Last year’s campaign raised money for new microscopes, art equipment and the music trailer. We are falling short on meeting our goals for separate Math and Foreign Language Labs. EVERY student attending BHS (that means yours!) will benefit from one or both of these labs. Our Matching Funds will expire on May 15th! Any contribution to these fundraising goals will be matched 100% while the matching funds remain. Contributions can be made online at www.bhsptso.org, or you can also download a form to mail in your donation. Your donations are 100% tax deductible! Please help us help your student! Each year, DECA and its corporate partners award over $300,000 in scholarships to DECA members. Congratulations to Sean Bissell, one of the 2015 Walgreen scholarship recipients! Sean was recognized on stage at the 2015 International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida in April. BHS Theatre Showcase: All performances are free!
