President’s Message
Hello Parents!
By my estimation the end of the school
year is going to arrive before I find the
perfect wrinkle cream; before I am able to
locate a matching pair of socks; and before
I can finish writing my romance novel
(which I also haven’t started). You see my
concern. There is not enough time to do all
of the things I wanted to do. In fact, I have
accomplished only one: I have paid
attention. That is why I can say with
absolute certainty that we’ve come a long
way already. Creating. Communicating.
Problem solving. I am not personally any
better at sharing and I still haven’t learned
how to get the play-clay muffins out of the
miniature tin. But in the next three months,
who knows? Maybe there’s time.
All my best,
~ Meghan Thomas
Business Office
The Business Office continues to be a very
busy place these days ~ registration for next
school year is in full swing! If you haven’t
already done so, stop by and pick up a
registration packet for next year. Remember,
we give priority to our current
membership….but when we open up
registration to the general public on March 14th,
it’s ‘first come, first serve!’ Speaking of
which, please let your friends know that they
will be able to register beginning Monday,
March 14th, or if their children are an alumni of
the school, Wednesday, March 9th. All you
need to register is a signed contract, plus a
check for registration and first month’s tuition.
You will have the rest of the summer to fill out
the remainder of the forms.
Here are the fees for the 2016-2017 school
year:
Registration for the 2 or 3 day per week
program ~ $100
Registration for the PT program ~ $65
**Please note that the maximum registration
per family is $100
Two-Day per week Tuition ~ $127 per month
Three-Day per week Tuition ~ $191 per month
PT Tuition ~ $53 per month
**Please note these fees are non-refundable ~
I would be happy to work with you on a
payment plan if needed.
During this busy time, you may notice a few
more visitors stopping by to check out our
program ~ please welcome them and share your
reasons for choosing our wonderful school!
As always, please ask should you have any
questions. And, thank you to everyone for
remembering to pay your May’s Tuition in
February!!

Picture Day: March 7, 8, & 11th
On average, across the U.S., children spend six
hours per day on video games, T.V. and the
Internet, and only minutes a day of outdoor
play time. As Nevada County residents we are
blessed with an abundance of activities in
nature. There are many family hikes, beautiful
picnicking grounds, lakes and rivers. I
wholeheartedly implore you to go outside and
explore. The physical, mental and
developmental benefits are limitless.
Here are just a few:

•

ability,)focus)and)self7discipline.)
Improved)cooperation,)flexibility,)and)self7
awareness)
Reduced)stress)and)aggression)
Increased)happiness)))
Tips for exploring nature with children.
Pack a nature kit! Some items to use are a
magnifying glass, binoculars, small bags to sort
and collect, paper, pencil and a first aid kit.
Ask prompting questions, i.e. what do you
notice…see…hear…wonder?
Take a picture and leave flowers etc. where you
found them for someone else to enjoy.
Collect free paint chips from local hardware
stores. Have the kids try and match the color to
something in nature.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any of the teachers
for ideas on where to begin exploring! Go out
and enjoy!
Easter Celebration!
Please bring 6 hard-boiled, noncracked white eggs
*Tip: To avoid cracking, put eggs
in cold water, bring to a boil,
turn off and then cover and let
sit for 15-20 minutes
We will provide the
baskets/bags, so no need to bring
your own.

Why self-regulation is important- 5
Tips for promoting self-regulation for
preschoolers.
Our social world requires us to control our
behavior, our emotions, and our thinking.
CONTROL over ourselves is a skill that helps
us navigate our surroundings fluidly, resolve
conflict, problem solve, think independently,
participate and get along with others. So, in
order for us to be successful in all things in life,
self-regulation skills are a must.
This comes into play even during the early
years. Our earliest experiences with formal
schooling require us to sit, listen, pay attention
and get along with others. The management of
interplay among our behavior, emotions and
thinking requires practice and support.
You as the parent can help your child’s selfregulation skills by incorporating simple
activities into their home lives. Here are 5 tips
you can use to promote ths kills needed to be
ready for “schooling” and life.
1. Include(your(child(in(decision/making(
processes.))Children)learn)to)model)the)

interests,)explore)materials,)problem)solve)
and)abstract)thinking.))Most)importantly,)
these)experiences)support)the)notion)that)

3. Provide(tasks(and(responsibilities(for(your(
child(to(complete(independently.)

This)will)spark)confidence)and)create)

4. Engage(your(child(in(conversations.))

Ingredients
1 cup rolled oats
⅓ cup coconut flakes
½ cup nut butter, I used natural
peanut butter
½ cup ground flax seed
½ cup chocolate chips, optional
⅓ cup raw honey
1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, mix rolled
oats, coconut flakes, nut butter,
flax seed, honey, and vanilla. Make
sure it is mixed well so that you
can form the balls easily. Add
chocolate chips if using or other
desired mix ins.
2. Chill the mixture in the fridge for
an hour so that balls will bind
together.
3. Roll the balls into about a 1-inch
diameter.
Note: These would also be great with
almonds, white chocolate, raisins, dried
fruit, pecans, walnuts, the possibilities
are endless!
