1945 News from the Whitehorse Star
DAWSONITES LIBERATED BY U.S.
FORCES IN THE PHILIPINES
Provost Marshal-General Leech wired from Washington, D.C. on February 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Murdock McCuish in Dawson, Y. T. informing them that
their son John and his wife Virginia, had been released by the U.S. Forces from the Japanese internment camp at Santo Tomas, Luzon Island in the
Philipines.
Mr. and Mrs. John McCuish were on Mindanao Island when the Japanese captured the Philipines and
managed to evade capture for about two years by hiding in the hills before they were forced to surrender.
