4 The Indian Panorama personality FRIDAY, MAY 25, 2011 ‘My heart is for Obama’: Bejan Daruwalla BY JUHI JHUNJHUNWALA DHINGRA ejan Daruwalla is one of the most famous astrologers in the world, and certainly, the most famous in India, today. He appears regularly on TV shows and has dedicated astrology columns in many Indian newspapers and magazines. Born on 11 July 1931, Daruwalla served as a professor of English in Ahmedabad. But it was astrology that was his true calling. Daruwalla is best known for his many accurate predictions that include the death of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, rise of the Bhartiya Janta Party, the Kargil War and the Gujarat earthquake. An ardent follower of lord Ganesh, he uses a combination of several techniques including Indian and Western Astrology, IChing, Tarot reading, Palmistry and numerology to depict the future. Of course, Daruwalla does go wrong once in a while. "I am only an astrologer. I predict based on my intuition," he says. Daruwalla lives in Mumbai. He has a family of five, including his wife and three children. In his spare time he enjoys watching cartoons, Cricket, football and crime serials. He is a great fan of tennis. He emphasizes on reading as an activity. He also loves listening to Indian classical music. "It has helped me keep alive. Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Bismillah Khan, are my favorites." And his favorite foods include biryanis and kebabs, which he loves. over. India will march forward from 2012-18 in terms of infrastructure, health and power sector. The mind-set of the people will change for the better leading to less corruption. I see 50% less corruption in India by the end of 2018. People's inner consciousness will be awakened. We will become more hardworking and responsible. B Q: What is your opinion of the 2012 end of the world theory according to the Mayan calendar? Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi released Bejan Daruwalla's book "2012-End of the World" . Seen in the picture are (from Left to Right): Bejan Daruwalla, Narendra Modi and Bejan Daruwalla's son Nastur Daruwalla Q: Do you see any end to terrorism? A: Definitely. In the next six years, we will crush terrorism. We will win the war on terrorism. Q: What is your opinion of Obama? A: He is a good leader. He is very talented and a tough decision maker. However, I fear for his life. May god give him a long life! He will be very good for the world as well as for India. My heart is for Obama. And I think he will win the upcoming US elections. Q: What attracted you to astrology? A: I have always wanted to help people. I like to help them achieve their goals, to become a better, richer human being. And that was my motivation to get started with astrology. Even in school days I used to predict that certain students would pass without even knowing astrology at the time. You can say it was in my karma and my destiny. I am just doing the role given to me by god. Some are born politicians, some are born freedom fighters, and some are born warriors. I was born as an astrologer. Q: What about other world leaders? Bejan Daruwalla with Maharana Arvind Singhji Mewar and his son Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur. Q: What is astrology? A: Astrology takes you in the correct direction so you can achieve your goals, desires, and aspirations, easily. It gives you the hope to fight against the bad times. Along with Tarot card, horoscope, and numerology, I hugely rely on my intuition. It is the experience that I have accumulated over the years that come in handy. Q: What role does astrology play in a person's life? A: I would say astrology has 90% influence in a person's life. A person commits a crime when he loses hope. When he feels that there is no way out, he resorts to wrongdoing. But when he knows that hope is around the corner, if only he waits a little longer, and works hard for it, then a better human being can be made, which will lead to a better society. This hope can be achieved through astrology. Q: When does astrology cross the line into superstition? A: This happens many times. People can use astrology wrongly. But with the help of an experienced astrologer it should not A: Not at all. In fact I have specially written a book on this topic. By the grace of Ganesh, we will grow. I completely reject this theory. Yes, I don't see very good future in the 22nd century, but the 21st century is the biggest and the brightest for the mankind. A: Russian President Vladimir Putin has ample power in the arsenal. And he will make Russia and India proud. I foresee India, Russia and the US coming closer and the understanding between these three nations improving. The days of UK Prime Minister David Cameron will be tough. He is a good person and good for India as well. But, I don't see a great future for him. He may even resign. Q: What about Iran? A: The Iran issue will continue till 2015. We will find a solution after that. I don't think there will be a war, though there is a possibility. I really don't think that will happen. Top cricketers with Bejan Daruwalla. (L to R): Bejan Daruwalla's son Nastur Daruwalla, Rahul Dravid, Saurab Ganguli, Sachin Tendullkar, and a lady happen. One should not follow astrology blindly. You should select a proper astrologer. Take into account his experience and his lineage. The astrologer helps you realize your potential. Ultimately, everything is not astrology. It is your karma and hard work as well. Astrology takes in account your past karmas. If a person is rich, it is because of his past karmas, so astrology thrusts him to do hard work in the present which in turn will lead to a good future. Q: Many of your predictions have come true. What are some of the special ones? A: A century by Sachin Tendulkar. I predicted a great future for him about nine years back. And I am very happy about it. Also, in 1980 I made a prediction that India will grow and become a super power and today we all can see how powerful India has become globally. Of course there are problems like corruption, bureaucracy, pollution, but still we are doing very well. Q: What are some of your predictions for India currently? A: Narendra Modi will rule in Gujarat. He is going to win the Gujarat elections and become the chief minister for the third time. I see him as a great dynamic leader. He will take Gujarat to great heights. He will also play a vital role in shaping India in the coming years. I don't see mid-term elections in India. The government will complete its term till 2014. But the days of Manmohan Singh are Q: What does future hold for us? A: For the future I can see technology and humans coming even more closer. We will have better appliances and faster planes. Technology will also come in the field of medicine. Technology will help us lead a beautiful life. We will have new cures for diseases like asthma, diabetes and even for AIDS and cancer. Any part of the world where people are oppressed and wronged, like in Syria and the Middle East, will get justice. Q: What is your definition of success? How does it feel when a prediction comes true? A: Success makes me humble. I feel it brings me closer to god. I thank him for what he has given me.
