voters
elected just the second
Republican
in
four
decades to the governor’s
office on Tuesday, winning
the post in a race that analysts said hinged largely
on public dissatisfaction
with President Obama’s
signature legislation Obamacare. CBS News said
businessman Matt Bevin’s
election was a big win for
the GOP and was a potential troubling sign for Democrats ahead of the
presidential election next
year.
A year from Election
Day, Dr. Ben Carson and
Donald Trump were in a
virtual tie among Republican voters in a new Quinnipiac University poll on
Wednesday, Trump attracting 24 percent, Carson getting 23 percent.
Marco Rubio got 14 percent and Ted Cruz came in
at 13 percent. Quinnipiac
said in a general election
matchup, Carson would
easily beat Hillary Clinton
50 to 40 percent, Clinton
would lose to Rubio by
five points and to Cruz by
three points, but she
would out trump Trump
46 percent to 43 percent.
In Ohio, voters rejected
a ballot proposal on Tuesday, turning thumbs down
on legalizing marijuana for
both recreational and
medical use. The measure
would have permitted
adults 21 years and older to
use, purchase, and grow
certain amounts of the
green guano.
At the same time, a
study by Harvard and
Sloan Kettering said on
Wednesday that Americans were taking more
prescription drugs now
than ever before, with six
out of ten using pharmaceuticals mainly for obesity, cholesterol, blood
pressure, and nerves. The
single most popular drug
was Zocor, a statin taken
to lower cholesterol.

the three-stage flight designed to carry more than

California’s Department of Public Health issued
warnings
on
Wednesday, advising consumers to avoid eating
crabs harvested off the Pacific coastline due to high
levels of the dangerous
neurotoxin “domoic acid.”
Especially singled out
were the Dungeness and
Rock crabs, which are
common from Oregon
south to Santa Barbara
County.
In sports, the College
Football Playoff Committee on Wednesday released the first of six Top
25 rankings that will determine the four playoff participants in the second
year of the playoff system.
The initial top four were,
in order, Clemson, LSU,
Ohio State, and Alabama.
And the U.S. national
debt jumped $339 billion
on Monday, the same day
Obama signed legislation
into law suspending the
debt ceiling, a move that
allows the government to
borrow as much money as
it wants above the $18.1
trillion debt ceiling. On
Friday, the U.S. owed
$18,153 trillion but when
the law passed on Monday,
the debt immediately
spiked to $18,492 trillion.

Shelton said the older
Jenkins was transported to
an area hospital on October 26. During the ambulance ride, the man
discovered his keys missing and his son was not
with him as he had assumed.
Upon his return, he
found his truck missing
and his check book and
fire safe were gone.
Shelton said he spotted
Jenkins on Ballplay Road
driving a truck that fit the
description of the father’s
missing vehicle. A status
check on its tag confirmed
its ownerdship.
Jenkins did not have a
valid driver’s license, Shelton said.
Wallace

Fritts with misuse of the
911 system and false reports
was
Tammy
Michelle Wallace of Dawson Street.
Fritts said he arrived at
Wallace’s home after
learning Wallace had
called 911 and reported a
couple having sex in one of
her trees. The male of the
couple told Wallace he intended to rape her, she
said.
She said the two were
dressed in camouflage and
hiding out in the branches.
When the officers arrived,
she told Fritts the pair had
moved to a front yard tree
and were “doing meth”
while perched on the
limbs.
When Fritts said no
one was in her trees, Wallace invited him inside her
home, where she picked
up a spoon and began
sticking it inside a television set because the people in the set were
watching her. Fritts said
he told the power to the
television was off.
Asking her if she had
taken any medication or
narcotics, Wallace answered, saying she had
used meth recently and
was supposed to turn herself in on Monday for violating her probation.
Webb

cer Scott Watson with
criminal trespassing was
Susan Nicole Webb, 22, of
Old Store Road.
Watson said he was dispatched to the Walmart
around 3:30 p.m. Someone there, he learned, was
swapping prices on merchandise, and this person
had previously been
barred from the premises.
A lifetime ban had been
imposed on and signed by
Webb on May 8, 2014,
Watson said.
Walmart
personnel
would be seeking a court
summons for the price
switching, Watson said.

Thousands of Iranians
burned the American flag
and chanted “Death to
America” on Wednesday,
marking the anniversary
of the takeover of the U.S.

ago. The annual state-organized rally had greater
impact this year due to
hardline opposition to
moderate President Hassan Rouhani’s outreach to
the West following the
signing of the recent nuclear deal.
Work began in Egypt
on Wednesday to decode
the black boxes from the
Russian jetliner that came

and crashed in the Sinai

over a 15-square mile area.
Russian officials said the
process would take at least
two more days.
Meanwhile, a Russian
cargo plane that was overloaded crashed along the
banks of the Nile River on
Wednesday, killing dozens
of people in the second
deadly air disaster in the
region in less than a week.
The Associated Press said
at least 25 persons were
killed, including women
and children.
A video released on
Wednesday showed Taliban fighters stoning a 22year-old Afghan woman to

The video depicted a halfdozen men standing
around a deep narrow pit
and pelting the female

Adoption coaching is a

Volunteers are shown

Barking, jumping, shyness? All can be dealt with

Outdoor Report
Dwain Mercer
Well, how did you
young sportsmen do? I
didn’t get the chance to
stop by Keith’s Butcher
Shop to see how many
more deer had been
brought in. I have been
too busy trying to get my
muzzleloader sighted in
before Saturday. I did see
some fine deer posted on
Facebook. Yes, I took the
plunge and it took me all
of five days to run out of
data. I am not so sure that
it was such a good move.
But I do get to see a lot
more pictures of local
game taken. The only
problem is I can’t figure
out how to get them from
Facebook to the BUZZ.
I’m so old school it is sad.
I’m learning, but it is a real
slow learning curve.
Garick Robinson got a
great deer. It looks like a
big ten point. Alana Millsaps got her first bear.
From what I heard, she really earned it. Bear hunting is tough! You do a lot
of walking and climbing
on the steep terrain of the
mountains. It is definitely
not for the weak of heart.
Way to go Alana and Garick!
My brother Dane’s son,
Derick, and friend Jack,
made the trip to Wisconsin to grouse hunt. The
first day they got five and
flushed 21. I have only
seen one grouse in these
mountains in the last ten
years. Next year I am
going to try and go with
them. That gives me one
year to lose about 80
pounds. Then I may have
a chance of keeping up
with my little brother.
Have you sighted in
your muzzleloader? The
season opens this Saturday, November 7, and lasts
until Friday, November 20.
You are allowed four in
Unit A and one in Unit B.
Bear season closes again
tomorrow, November 6. It
reopens (with dogs) again
on November 30 through
December 13.
Remember you must
have 500 square inches of
hunter orange on when
hunting with a muzzleloader. That goes for the
hunters who choose to
keep hunting with their
bows. There isn’t much
difference between modern muzzleloaders and
most straight cartridge rifles. Rifles like .44 mag,
.357 mag, .45-70 and so on,
so be sure of your backstop. Sabot slugs can travel
a long way, so be safe and
responsible.
In the McKee Outdoor
winter tournament on Tellico, they had 29 boats.
Ryan Dalton and Ricky
Robinson took first place
with 11.54 pounds. The
Schofields came in second
with 8.9 pounds. Marty
Whitehead and Rob Bowers were third with 8.09
pounds. Marty got lunker
with a 4.79-pound fish.
Next week will be at Norris Dam.
