THE WALKING DEAD, STAR WARS AND COMIC BOOKS INVADE
For immediate release THE WALKING DEAD, STAR WARS AND COMIC BOOKS INVADE THE FIRST QUÉBEC CITY COMICCON, PRESENTED BY TÉLÉTOON LA NUIT Québec City (Québec), Wednesday, August 6, 2014 – At long last, Québec City will get the popular culture event it deserves! Québec City Comiccon will be coming to the Centre des congrès on October 25 and 26, bringing icons from the realms of science-fiction, fantasy, horror, wrestling, video games and comic books. For its inaugural celebration, Québec City Comiccon is proud to have Télétoon la nuit, who brings legions of viewers remarkable and diverse programming such Archer, Les Simpsons, Robot Chicken, and Au Pays des Têtes à claques, as their title sponsor. The latest addition to the list of guests includes Steven Yeun, best known for the role of Glenn Rhee, one of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse world of The Walking Dead, one of the highest rated shows currently on television. Also on hand will be Mick Foley, also known as Mankind, Dude Love, Cactus Jack, a WWE wrestling superstar by any name, and #1 bestselling author of the autobiographical Have a Nice Day! Fans of the weird and horrific will be happy to meet Lloyd Kaufman, president of Troma Entertainment, responsible for such classics like The Toxic Avenger (1984), The Class of Nuke ‘Em High (1986), Mother’s Day (1980) and Tromeo and Juliet (1996), to name but a few. Previously announced Star Wars-alum Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) is now joined by the 7’3” gentle giant responsible for bringing Chewbacca to life, English actor Peter Mayhew. Star Trek fans who are curious on behind the scenes action will want to hear stories from actress/singer Noelle Hannibal, who appeared in the film Star Trek: First Contact (1996) portraying the first female Vulcan on Earth. All this, plus the legendary Lou Ferrigno, who not only portrayed the green goliath in the 1970’s The Incredible Hulk series, but also voiced him in the English version of The Avengers (2012). In the world of comics and BD, Québec City Comiccon will have Shuster Award winner, Dale Eaglesham (The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk), as well as the artist behind the event’s poster, Benoit Godbout (Académie des chasseurs de primes) as part of the starting line-up. Moreover, Anne Robillard, best-selling author of the fantasy saga Knights of Emerald, will be showing off the first volume of her A.N.G.E. series in BD format, which will be released later this month. A huge part of the convention will be the ability for fans to escape and dress up as their favorite heroes, also known as cosplay. The practice has become so popular, producing professional cosplayers, such as Marie-Claude Bourbonnais, a costume maker, designer and model that has been cosplaying for several years and was commissioned to produce seven complex outfits for the second season of the successful web series Heroes of the North, for which she plays a villainous character, Hornet. Hailing from the United States, Ani-Mia, who boasts close to half-a-million Facebook fans, has been featured on geek websites and traveled across the world to fan conventions, will be landing in Québec City in October. Video game enthusiasts will happy to note that ‘Le Warpzone’ (presented by La Planque Jeux Vidéo) will be holding its 7th edition within the halls of Québec City Comiccon. Their mission is promoting video game culture, to educate, entertain and engage the general public, as well as the community of gamers and players. A hundred consoles and games of all generations will be made available to attendees, with the aim to cover the entire history of video games that have marked Quebec's culture, from oldest to newest. While the retro period prevails, consoles and games of the latest generation will also be available.
