5. Workshop “Vegetationsdatenbanken” / 5 th workshop “vegetation databases”
Vegetation databases and monitoring / Vegetationsdatenbanken und Monitoring
The 5th workshop on vegetation databases will take place from 22 to 24 February 2006 at the
Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University Bremen.
Up to now, we have received about 30 inscriptions and about 20 submitted abstracts for talks
and posters. The lectures cover various aspects and topics related to vegetation databases,
including their application for monitoring purposes and the study of changes in the vegetation
and environment. We are pleased to inform you that two of our invited speakers have
confirmed their participation, *** and Christophe Coudun, currently working at the Centre for
Terrestrial Carbon Dynamics, Sheffield, UK. We are happy that Lubomír Tichý takes care of
the JUICE workshop and Martin Kleikamp will carry out the Upload of VegetWeb. Below
you find a preliminary list of contributions.
Please notice that there is still space for a limited number of talks and also poster
contributions. We therefore extend the deadline for submission until 29 January 2006 and
encourage participants without submitted contribution to announce a talk.
As already announced in circular 1, both oral (15 min + 5 min discussion) and poster contributions (max size
DIN A0 - 84,10 * 118,90 cm) are welcome. Abstracts in English or German (including title, name, address, email, text, in Times Roman 12, not exceeding 1 page) should send to Maike Isermann (iserm@uni-bremen.de).
Conference languages are English and German.
Venue
Lectures and posters will be presented in building C (Chemistry), NW2, (http://www.unibremen.de/lageplan/) at the University Bremen. The building is marked on the map shown
below and can be entered either from the east side via the building A/B (NW 2) or from the
west side at the Leobener Straße. The lectures are held in room C0300 booked for the whole
period of the workshop. Other rooms are at our disposal for the meetings and arrangements on
Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. All meeting places are close to the mensa - the student
restaurant - and to the coffee bar.
Travel
Bremen is easily reached by air, train or car. The train station is located in the centre of the
town, and most hotels are in close vicinity. There are good tram and bus connections to all
parts of Bremen, including the university (see below) http://www.bsag.de/4016.php#4021 . If
you arrive by plane, you should avoid to use an expensive taxi to reach the town centre: there
is a cheap and frequently running tram, no. 6, going from Bremen airport to the city (and to
the University).
If you arrive by car and go directly to the university, take – when arriving on the
motorway at the crossing Bremer Kreuz – the motorway A27 towards
Bremerhaven/Cuxhaven. Leave the motorway at departure “Horn/Lehe-Universität”. Choose
the direction towards the “Universität”. You come to a crossing with traffic lights where you
go to the right following the “Hochschulring”. Go to the left into the Leobener Str. (third
possibility to go left) where you at the righthand (west) side also find a parking site where you
can leave your car (for 60 cent /day).
The university is located about 4 km north of the Central station north of a large
recreational park, the “Bürgerpark”. The university is easily reached by tram. If you are
staying in the centre of Bremen, there are several stops (for example “Domsheide”,
“Schüsselkorb” or “Hauptbahnhof” [Central station]) from where you can take tram no. 6 in
the direction “Universität”. Leave the tram at the central part of the university (“Universität
Zentralbereich”) close to a small pond and a large glass building. From there it is a short walk
to the building NW2 (“Naturwissenschaften 2”) where the workshop takes place.
Accommodation
Accommodation (see below) can be arranged via Bremen-Tourist (http://www.brementourism.de/Welcome.html). They offer an extensive list of hotels of all categories.
Unfortunately, there is a large medicine congress in Bremen at the same period as our
workshop, meaning that only few hotel rooms will be available (see the list with some hotels
below), at least at lower price categories. Some hotels offer special arrangements for guests of
the university; please ask at the reception for special conditions.

2. JUICE – Wednesday (22 February 2006): 13:00 – ca. 17.30 h.
This workshop will be given by Lubomír Tichý. One part is meant for new users, a second part is
adapted to advanced users (for example, treating different measures of fidelities, new methods
for data standardization, similarity indices, COCKTAIL method). The first part can be done
interactively using personal notebooks for a limited number of participants, while the second
part has more the form of a lecture with demonstration. Lubomír Tichý will contact you via email before the workshop.
3. FlorKart user meeting – Thursday (23 February 2006): 17:00 – ca. 18:00 h.
This will be an exchange of information on on-going projects and the use of the database for
all interested, both beginners and advanced. Jörg Ewald will give a short introduction.
There is a reservation made for a social gathering / dinner at the Rathaus restaurant, located in
the City at the market place, for Wednesday, 22 February 2006, around 18.30 h.

B. in Zeitschriften
Kreuztabellenform, Arten in Zeilen, Aufnahmen in Spalten (siehe Beispiel 2).
•
Workshop in Göttingen postulierten Minimalforderungen entsprechen (siehe
Aufstellung unten).
•
