MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW Madonna di Campiglio is one of the most famous resorts in the Alps. It is set at 1550 mt a.s.l. between the rock towers of the Brenta Dolomites -‐unique tops of rare beauty and Unesco World Heritage-‐ and the glacier of the Adamello-‐Presanella, the “mountain of history”, the highest battle front of World War I. Madonna di Campiglio is the paradise of winter sports. A modern system of quick lifts and funny slopes are located in the heart of the resort, very close to the main hotels. Have fun skiing from dawn to sunset, and also at night along the Canalone Miramonti, the slope that hosted some of the most famous slalom races of the history of ski. In summer, experience the mountain in Madonna di Campiglio, in the green heart of the Alps. Alpinists can experience the exciting fascination of the Brenta Dolomites, hikers can fall in love with the extraordinary variety of the landscapes of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. In the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, the old alpine soul comes back beating. More than a hundred years of tourism, historical events, architectural and stylistic changes, sports events and famous guests made Madonna di Campiglio one of the most famous and beloved resorts of the international jet set, yesterday and today as well. It was very sought after by the Austrian and Central European nobility and the rich bourgeoisie. In the end of the 1800s it was chosen as a holiday resort by the House of Habsburg, the Emperator Francesco Giuseppe and the Empress Elisabetta di Baviera, known all over the world as Sissi. The royal atmosphere of those times comes back with the Habsburg Carnival, every year between February and March, and in August with the celebration of the Emperor’s birthday. From the aristocratic atmosphere of the past to the refined and international one of nowadays, the charm of Madonna di Campiglio is timeless. Madonna di Campiglio keywords are charm, Italian style, gourmet cuisine, shopping and fun at high altitude. Today Madonna di Campiglio is an elegant tourist resort, in which ancient charm and futurist inspiration coexist. Traces of the famous past can be found in the four cardinal points of the identity of Campiglio: the Salone Hofer with its Central European architecture and its liberty paintings, the church of Santa Maria Antica that reveals the Habsburg presence in Madonna di Campiglio, the Museum of the mountain guides and people of Campiglio – remembrances of the myths of alpinism and of the personalities that made great the “Pearl of the Dolomites”; and in the end the “parlor” of Righi square, today as it was in the black and white pictures of sixty years ago. On the other hand the future can be read in the recent eco-‐chic evolution. Skilful restorations and balance between tradition and design changed the hotels in extraordinary chalet where the stay becomes an experience to remember. The use of the local material as wood and stone intend to aim at the environmental sustainability. Eco-‐friendly buildings characterize the resort and the certified eco-‐friendly hotels are growing up every year. MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO A NEW WINTER 2014/2015: a new winter is coming in Madonna di Campiglio: sparkling, fascinating, exciting events and renovations for both the hotel sector and the snow product. The winter season starts in the name of charm and gourmet: the Michelin three-‐starred restaurants are open again, the lounge of the Dolomites brightens up with the twinkling lights of the many haute couture boutiques and of the bars and nightclubs, the stage spotlights of the great events switch on. The first event is the legendary 3Tre race, that comes back on the 22nd December with the exciting Audi FIS Ski World Cup Night Slalom. Every season the resort renovates itself, respecting the environment: the Cerana Relax Hotel in Madonna di Campiglio opens a new wing with 15 new wooden suites (some of these also have the infrared sauna); the hotel Europeo in Pinzolo opens a new spa, some new suites and shows a renovation of the building. For people looking for a mountain house at the feet of the Brenta Dolomites, the Prà de la Casa is the right place: it has been completely restored with 6 rooms all in larch wood. New lifts and renovations characterize this winter: the lifts company of Madonna di Campiglio launches a new snow travelator near the Zeledria chairlift, new artificial snow systems for the easy Pradalago slope, the Campiglio ski way, the Fortini slope and the Spinale Diretta slope, besides a restyling of the last part of the Nambino slope. Moreover, great works for the creation of a new water basin for the artificial snow system in Montagnoli area, Spinale side. This winter, more than others, will be family-‐friendly. Madonna di Campiglio presents a new family park in the Campo Carlo Magno area: in the beginners area outside the Golf Hotel, modern moving walkways will replace the old drag lifts, a terrain park will be built for the snowboarders and a playground area for the snow lovers. All the family park is on a 30 hectares area, a real paradise for all the family. In the near Pinzolo village, which is ski-‐connected to the “Pearl of the Dolomites” since 2011, the winter season opens with news for the littlest: the improvement of the family park in the Prà Rodont area. THE SKI AREA “CAMPIGLIO” Sparkling air as champagne, soft snow blankets touching the blue sky and rock outlines in the background. The paradise of ski is here: exciting downhills and modern lifts, between 850 and 2500 mt of altitude a.s.l., descending to the centre of the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, very close to the main hotels. The most famous slope, Canalone Miramonti, where the historical and legendary Ski World Cup takes place, is floodlit by night to go on skiing under the stars as well. From the 22nd December Madonna di Campiglio is the heart of the widest ski area of Trentino: 150 km of slopes in the three areas of Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Folgarida-‐Marilleva. The first two areas are connected, in only 16 minutes, with the modern and panoramic Pinzolo-‐Campiglio Express gondola. From Doss del Sabion, in Pinzolo, the Pinzolo Campiglio Express gondola leads to Madonna di Campiglio, in 5Laghi area. It is about 5 km long, with an altitude gap of 1.100 mt, divided in four stops: 2 start/arrive stops and 2 intermediate stops. The 95% of the slopes have an artificial snow system. Skiers can choose among 100 slopes (45 blue, 37 red, 18 black), snowboarders among 5 snow parks, as the “Ursus Snow Park” at Grostè, one of the best five ones in the Alps. One ski area since 2011 and one ski pass from the winter season 2013/2014. FOR THE FAMILY Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Rendena valley are family-‐friendly resorts. They are a paradise not only for “big” skiers, but also a kid-‐friendly funny world: everything is based on the needs of children, with entertainment and activities for all tastes. On the ski runs of Pinzolo-‐Doss del Sabion, at the south entrance of the Skiarea Campiglio, a family-‐friendly winter is beginning with several services for families. Drawn on an outstanding overlook with a 360° view on the Brenta Dolomites and on the Adamello-‐Presanella groups, this part of the ski area has been recognized by the Autonomous Province of Trento as a “Family-‐
friendly” ski area for the attentions reserved to the family. “Family-‐friendly” shops, activities and proposals for kids in the mountains, kids clubs and entertainment, also on the mountain, offer many occasions to play and have fun on the snow. In the mountain hut “Prà Rodont”, on the slopes of Pinzolo village, the kindergarden “La Tana di Rendy” (for kids aged 3-‐7 years old) is open from December to March, from 10 am to 3 pm. The funny family park will be improved with a new moving walkway for beginners, and a path with obstacles, humps, archways and funny animals on the route upgrade it in all its parts. The Pinzolo Italian Ski School, which has recently gained the “silver high quality brand” for the kids teaching programme by the Association of the Ski Instructors of Trentino region, will propose a whole day together with the ski instructors (included lunch) to kids aged 5-‐13. Moreover, in Pinzolo, the “Extra large Family” rate includes a free daily lift pass for the third and more kids (and also free rental and ski school), while the “Rendy Ski School” is the ski school within the Pinzolo Italian Ski School, for kids from 3 to 5 years old who want to learn to ski. For them all the attentions of the ski instructor and of the nurse/tutor in a group class, which is studied in all the details for the kids and their needs. Children are looked after step by step while they get in contact with the snow. This special attention of the ski area Doss del Sabion has been rewarded by the Autonomous Province of Trento with the assignment of the Family brand to the lifts company of Pinzolo (www.familyintrentino.it). Numerous are the coffee houses, pubs, restaurants, mountain huts, hotels (with kids-‐friendly menu, -‐tea break, -‐furniture, the possibility for mums to nurse and change their babies, and to warm food in protected and peaceful places), shops, lifts, the associations that are “family-‐
friendly”. Family oriented is also the “Queen of the snow”: in Madonna di Campiglio the lift pass for children is free up to 8 years old (from 1 to 14 consecutive days) of the same type and duration of pass purchased by the accompanied adult, and the activities for kids are very exciting. Starting from the big news of this winter: a family park of 30 hectares for ski and snowboard beginners and an area where to play on the snow with all the family! In front of the historic Golf Hotel in Campo Carlo Magno area, the beginners area will be modernized with new 5 moving walkways replacing the old drag lifts. In the area also a terrain park and a snow tubes slope will be built for the fun of all! It will be possible to enter the area purchasing daily ski passes (not included in the Madonna di Campiglio Lifts pass) or one-‐way tickets. Not only sport…the park will include a winter playground, with Giant inflatables and constructions for those who don’t ski nor snowboard. The Kinderheim “La Baita del bimbo” is the excellent kindergarden of the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, that offers a rich entertainment programme with ski classes, activities, games and sports. The qualified staff in children care, in a cosy and protected place, from 10 am to 4 pm (including lunch) will take care of the children. The daily programme includes ski classes with the ski instructors of the Rainalter Ski School (the first ski school of Madonna di Campiglio which has gained the golden high quality brand in ski teaching issued by the Association of the Ski Instructors of Trentino region) in the morning at the park “Baby Rainalter”, in the afternoon playful activities and outdoor sports. For those who love animals, the winter rural heart of the Dolomites is even more magic with the Athabaska Winter Farm in Darè: in a place of such rare beauty, surrounded by the snowy woods of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, adults and kids could enjoy a husky-‐sledge tour and taste a hot tea mug together with the funny Scottish cows, the brave lama and alpaca, the tender alaskan husky and the small courtyard animals. More traditional are the other two children’s farm of the valley: the “Fattoria Antica Rendena”, in the farm restaurant “La Trisa” in Giustino, from 6th December to April, offers farm activities for children, cooking and dairy classes, creative activities with recycling materials. The farm “La Regina”, in S. Antonio di Mavignola village, proposes guided tours with tastings of cheeses, charcuterie and regional food, dairy products processing show and tastings of fresh cheeses. And for those who want to try a sledge tour, the horses of the farm will guide the guest to discover the winter landscape, and the tender ponies could entertain on a ride the children from 6 to 12 years old. Horse trekking is also offered by the two riding stables of the valley, Horse Trekking and A.S.D Equilara, that are horse and nature specialists. SHOPPING, FOOD AND MOVIDA After a day on the slopes, the afternoon goes on in the prestigious coffee houses and pubs that offer appetizing aperitifs and finger food, or strolling the streets of the centre, sometimes meeting some VIPs, or shopping. Madonna di Campiglio is glamour, elegance, excellence, style and charme. Many are the proposals of new trends of the boutiques, of the artisan shops, antique galleries, prestigious shops where to enjoy shopping buying exclusive products. From fine fabrics to winter fragrances, from accessorizes with the brand of the resort to fancy jewels or paper machè objects. The glittering windows of shops enhance the atmosphere of Madonna di Campiglio and shopping becomes a refine après-‐ski activity. The experts can taste the most precious wine labels in refined wine bars and houses, the gluttons can try delicacies in the ancient patisserie or in the chocolate houses of the resort. In Madonna di Campiglio, food is passion and culture: the most famous chefs of the Dolomites perform the natural products of the mountain and the ingredients of the Italian cuisine making delicious foods that look like artworks. In the “Pearl of the Dolomites”, where there is the highest collection of four stars and four stars superior hotels in Trentino region, hospitality is the rallying cry. Nothing has been left to chance and holiday becomes a dream come true . Madonna di Campiglio offers two 1 Michelin-‐star restaurants: the “Il Gallo Cedrone” (2012, chef Vinicio Tenni) of the Hotel Bertelli (info@ilgallocedrone.it, www.ilgallocedrone.it) and the “Dolomieu” of the hotel DV-‐Chalet; many other restaurants offer a very high quality cuisine and typical dishes. The three restaurants are very careful at the quality of the raw materials, and are the result of the diligence of three families of hotel managers that have made cooking the flagship of their activities. After dinner is music and parties: in the disco clubs that light up the night and in the trendy houses where food is combined with music, the evenings give unforgettable moments of “bien vivre”. For a different event, some mountain huts propose winter mountain dinners, reachable by snow cats or on a horse sledge or again a huskies puck. THE BIG EVENTS Charme, fun, exclusive events and prestigious guests: at the feet of the Dolomites-‐ Unesco World Heritage, winter surprises even more and it opens its curtains to the biggest events of the whole alpine arch. The 22nd December 2014 there will be the slalom by night for the alpine ski world cup. It just turned 60 years old but it’s more frizzy and young than ever. The reference is to the 3tre, the most ancient Italian competition in the Ski World Cup which ,after coming back in the Audi Fis Ski World Cup in 2012 and being free from the European Cup in 2013, on Monday 22nd December 2014 will be on Madonna di Campiglio’s stage again as a world slalom appointment. Along the narrow poles of the Canalone Miramonti, the historical slope of the “Regina delle nevi”, one of the most technical and demanding of the white circle, the challenge among the best slalom racers of the world is about to be renewed. The slalom will dispute by night with the first round at 5.45 p.m. and the second at 8.45 p.m. It will be a show under the stars, near the Dolomites and in an extraordinary frame of party and fun. For the 2014/2015 season, four Italian Male Ski World Cup trials, representative of the four specialties of this sport, will dispute in Trentino Alto Adige, that confirms itself the top ski Italian region. In the Skiarea Campiglio, the 22nd December will be sport feast, but not only. For who will want to reach the “Regina delle nevi” in occasion of the 3tre Fis Ski World Cup, a great Italian style party is being organized. Music, tasty appetizers and a lot of fun! One of the most desired winter vintage races : from the 22nd to the 25th January 2015 the Winter Marathon will be back. The protagonists are historical collection cars built before 1968 that will race in an epic challenge, passing through eleven dolomitic passages. From the sports appointments to the regal ones: in February the magical atmosphere of the Habsburg Court comes alive. The Habsburg Carnival celebrates the prestigious past of Madonna di Campiglio with four days in company of the Emperor Francesco Giuseppe, his wife Elisabetta from Austria, ladies and knights, parades, ski rides with antique dresses, fireworks, waltz and imperial torchlight processions. A Romantic and sportive appointment is Trentino Ski Sunrise on the 14th February 2015: a meeting with the dolomitic sunrise for a ski ride, followed by a tasty breakfast with local products from Trentino. Where the first ski path had been traced by a group of brave English skiers in 1910, from the same mountain, the Monte Spinale, the “Pearl of the Dolomites” proposes an emotional downhill under the first lights of the day and close to the most beautiful mountains of the world. A new experience to live and taste the spirit of the mountain in a different way, when everything is still peace and nature, magic and alpine spirit. Emotion and adrenaline, instead, are the keywords for the events that will be hosted in the amazing Ursus Snow Park of Madonna di Campiglio: the park dedicated to snowboarders and freestylers, nominated among the five best ones in the Alpes, will be the theatre of numerous spectacular events. Among the FISI appointments the 1st February 2015 with the Big Air Regionale Fisi, the 15th March with the Triveneto Cup Slopestyle, the 21st and 22nd March with the Italy Slope Cup-‐ FISI Style, and the 29th March with the Trentino Freestyle Tour.
