Kids Activity Journal for children aged 5+ Volume One: MCA COLLECTION Illustrated by David Capra KHALED SABSABI This SKETCH Activity Journal is yours to keep! An artist named David Capra wrote and illustrated it to help you explore Volume One: MCA Collection. All the artworks in this exhibition were collected by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). The Collection has lots of different types of artworks which were all made by Australian artists over the last 30 years. Do you have a collection? What do you collect? 7 8 6 3 5 4 2 1 1 In Naqshbandi Greenacre Engagement, artist Khaled Sabsabi worked with people from his local community. If you had to make an artwork with a group of people from where you live, what would you create? A big statue of you? Would you paint a building your favourite colour? BROWN COUNCIL 2 3 Join the dots on Linda Marrinon’s Edwardian Lady In the video One Hour Laugh, Brown Council laugh for 1 hour! Turn to the person you are with and try to make them laugh for 10 seconds. 4 Aleks Danko’s A Joycean Laugh is made up of words starting with the letter “H”. Using these words write a poem or invent a song of your own. 5 Hany Armanious’ Untitled snake oil is made of colourful shapes sitting on top of glasses. Imagine you could sip each shape up with a straw. ALEKS DANKO LINDA MARRINON HANY ARMANIOUS 6 NIKE SAVVAS 7 In Judith Wright’s Blind Hands she has made a big book with a picture of hands. Make up your own secret handshake with a friend. Now look for a person wearing a blue jacket and a green badge and greet them with your new handshake. JUDITH WRIGHT Here is the beginning of a sketch of Asher Bilu’s Insights into the ultimate ASHER BILU Strike a pose in front of Nike Savvas’ Showtime. Take a photo and post it on instagram using #mcanow Find an empty space in the gallery and imagine you could make an artwork to be exhibited in the MCA Collection 8 To continue the laughs at home, here is the beginning of a funny hat made by me, David. Tape the pieces together to make one long arm and wrap it around your head. Maybe you would like to trace and cut out your own hands to decorate it. Can you imagine a funny dance to do with your hat on?
