WISH Clinic
at the Mount Carmel Clinic
886 Main Street
Sundays 1:30 - 4:30 PM
MISSION:
To address the health and social needs of the community we serve
while facilitating an interprofessional learning environment for
students.
VISION:
To establish the WISH Clinic as a sustainable centre of excellence
that enables empowerment and continuity of care in partnership with
the community.
There are a number of ways to participate
in the WISH Clinic.
The Winnipeg Interprofessional
Student-Run Health (WISH) Clinic
strives to address the health needs of
the Point Douglas community in an
respectful, socially responsible way,
while providing an interprofessional
learning environment for students.
The WISH Clinic follows a holistic,
client-centered model of care that is
provided by students and mentors
from a broad range of health-related
disciplines. The involvement of
students and mentors from all
healthcare-related fields is
fundamental to the WISH Clinic’s
philosophy of building rapport with
the community and supporting clients
to achieve their personal goals for
health and wellness.
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS:
As a student-run initiative, WISH relies
on the participation of students from all
faculties of post secondary institutions
such as the University of Manitoba.
Opportunities include participating in the
weekly clinic, joining one of the student
committees, sitting on the Student
Executive, or participating in one of the
many clinic events.
FACULTY MEMBERS: We are currently
looking for faculty members from each
health care-related discipline to act as
advisors and contacts for their faculty or
school. Faculty members from any postsecondary educational institution in
Winnipeg are invited to participate.
MENTORS: WISH is always looking for
licensed health care professionals (e.g.
occupational therapists, pharmacists,
physicians, physiotherapists, dental
hygienists, dentists, nurses, social
workers, spiritual care workers, etc.) who
are interested in working as mentors at
clinic events or during shifts.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS: WISH is
conducting a community consultation
process and meeting with community
organizations from Winnipeg’s inner city
to discuss our clinic and inner city health
care needs. Please contact us if you would
like your community organization to be
involved in this process.
