National Nursing Home week is fast approaching and we are
plotting and planning some great events. Here is a sneak
peak and some things we need help with! This schedule is
not complete and is subject to change.




Kick off Social: Monday, May 9th at 10 a.m. Come down
to the MWV room to get the schedule for the week and enjoy some pastries with staff and residents.
MVC Walking Club: Tuesday, May 10th at 10 a.m. With
the warm weather approaching, a lot of people are thinking
about getting outside and walking. We thought it would be
fun to see just how many miles we can walk collectively
over the summer. This is a kickoff event to come and find
out how the club will work. This is open to staff and residents as we want to encourage everyone to get healthy and
enjoy some fresh air together.
Senior Prom: Wednesday, May 11th at 5 p.m. This event is
sponsored by the Rotary Club. This will be a dress up
event, so families can help by providing a dressy outfit for
their resident to wear that evening.
Ventriloquist and Magic Show: Thursday, May 12th at 2
p.m. This is a new entertainer that we have never had at
MVC so come check him out!
Hungry-Hungry Hippos: Live Version, Friday, May 13th
at 2 p.m. Based on the children’s game, we are recruiting
staff volunteers to help with this event!
New England Country Boys: Saturday, May 14th at 2
p.m. We will end the week with our favorite Country
Band!
The success of this week is when staff and residents can enjoy the celebration together. We are planning events that can
be enjoyed by staff and residents together. We are in need of
staff that is willing to participate in a couple of the activities.
We need 4 teams of 2 for hungry hippos and 4 teams of 2 for
another game that we are considering. Please let Susan or anyone in Recreation know if you are interested in helping.

Fighting Alzheimer's From Sunrise To Sunset
The Longest Day is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association®. Held annually on the
summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event
symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the
disease and their caregivers. Teams are encouraged to create
their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an
activity they love to honor someone facing the disease. The
Mountain View Community team will have raffles, bake sale,
and many fun events. Stay tuned and plan to wear purple.

Bingo Volunteers Wanted
Have you thought about volunteering but only have a limited
amount of time? Do you have a minimum of 2 hours a week
to spare? This may be the perfect fit for you. We are looking
for volunteers to assist residents during bingo. Bingo is held
every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30
p.m. Do you know a student who needs some volunteer
hours? The Saturday slot may be a perfect fit.
Please note all volunteers are subject to TB testing and criminal background checks at the expense of MVC. This is for

Did You Know?
Do you know the history behind the Red Poppies?
In 1915, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” Moina
Michael replied with her own poem:
“We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.”
She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during
war. She was the first to wear one, and sold poppies to her
friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was
visiting the United States and learned of this new custom
started by Ms. Michael. When she returned to France she
made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned
children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other
countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children’s League
sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and
Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam
Guerin approached the VFW for help.
Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans’ organization to nationally
sell poppies. Two years later their “Buddy” Poppy
program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans. In 1948 the US Post Office honored
Ms. Michael for her role in founding the National
Poppy movement by issuing a red 3 cent postage
stamp with her likeness on it.

One Resident’s View
Yippee! We had YAMS again. Thanks Rob! Would it
be possible to have them on a regular basis along with sweet
potato fries which we have not had in a long time.
Thank you to our HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT
who assures us of a clean and nice odor free HOME. I have
always heard folks visiting here remark that other nursing
homes have an awful smell when one walks in their door but
not at MVC. “ONE COULD EAT OFF OUR FLOORS”, as
the age old saying goes.
Our MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT who is always
making repairs or replacing things as need be. Guess who
helps lead the crew now, A WOMAN, YEA for women everywhere! Good luck to you Carie Archambault in what we
hope will be a long stay. Bob Murray is not gone, he is frequently here as is to be expected since he is the department
head. Congrats to all!
Six of us lucky residents went to have lunch at the
RED APPLE in Concord. As usual, there were residents who
backed out on the last minute. We all enjoyed choosing our
meal from the four different cuisines offered which are
AMERICAN, ITALIAN, CHINESE and JAPANESE. Dessert is also offered all this for $10.the meals at night are
slightly higher but the same offers of food.
Bob Batson has been doing our Bible Study since Pastor John left. Bob is the son to two of our residents. A job
well done Bob. Those of us who attend give a huge
THANKS to you.
Breakfast buffet is still a huge hit put on by Rob Horace and his staff. One thing that I would like to see repeated
is a menu passed out for Buffett for people like myself who
are unable to attend so that we might feel included. I remember when this was done a few years back. I think the Recreation Department was in charge of passing these out.
National Nursing Home Week looks to be lots of fun.
It runs May 8th - 14th starting with a kick off social in the
MWV room at 10a.m. At 2p.m. Beach Blanket Bingo, whatever that is should be interesting to find out. Tuesday at 10
a.m. Walking Club Kickoff followed by Ice Cream Sundaes
in the MWV room at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 10 a.m. we can
have manicures done by the Happy Hands Spa Day team,
then at 2p.m. hair and make-up. All this to get ready for the
Senior Prom being sponsored by the Rotary Club at 5 p.m. It
is my understanding that they are taking care of everything.
This is sure to be a fun event! Look for pictures in next
months newsletter. Thursday at 10 a.m. is Dunkin Donut
Bingo, then at 2 pm there will be Ventriloquist/magic show.
On Friday will be the live version of the children's game
hungry hippos, this should be great fun to watch! On Saturday we finish the week off with The Country Boys!

Infection Prevention
Preventing the spread of infection is everyone’s job and we
want to thank everyone for their ongoing efforts to eliminate
the introduction of flu and virus whenever possible and to
contain it when necessary. We always break to the side of
safety and sometimes this means limiting group activities
and we appreciate the understanding and patience of Residents when this is needed. While we love to see family members, it is critical that you do not visit when there is even a
hint of you being ill. Just to be safe, please do not even think
about visiting until you have been at least 72 hours symptom free! This is the perfect time to let us help you learn
how to FaceTime and Skype so that Residents and Family
Members can stay in communication, but safely!
