May 5, 2013 6th Sunday of Easter In the Mass, the priest prays that the Holy Spirit would change bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus tells us that same transforming Spirit is given to us. For what change in my life do I hope and pray for at Mass? The organ begins to roll out the Alleluia Gosel Acclamation. On cue, everyone rises. We all get up, and we look like we are exacting something. And we should. The words, the teaching, the ministry of Jesus are about to be proclaimed in the Gospel. That is momentous and worth rising for. The Word of life and hope is coming to us. Each time we rise up, we also anticipate the end of time which is the fulfillment of our hopes and dreams. Jesus said, “Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28) TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Jesus tells the disciples that they will be witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:1-11). Psalm — God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47). Second Reading — God seated Jesus at his right hand in the heavens (Ephesians 1:17-23) or Hebrews 9:24-28; 10:19-23. Gospel — As Jesus blessed his disciples he parted from them and was taken up to heaven (Luke 24:46-53). 5 maja 2013 r. Niedziela 6. Słowo Życia i nadziei przychodzi do nas. Każdorazowo, kiedy się podnosimy i wstajemy przed czytaniem Ewangelii, uczestniczymy w czasie ostatecznym, ędącym spełnieniem naszych nadziei i marzeń, o którym Jezus powiedział: „A gdy się to dziać zacznie, nabierzcie ducha i podnieście głowy, ponieważ zbliża się wasze odkupienie.” (Łk. 21, 28) Our Beloved Dead James Pawlak 3 Parish Life Thank you for all the good work and support that went into the Taste of Thecla. Many thanks go to our co-chairs Kathy Borner and Kerri Caldwell and all who volunteered to make the night a success. Congratulations to Mrs. Nancy Haran for being the winner of the grand raffle. In next week’s bulletin we will publish all the details. This weekend we are blessed to have our 2nd graders receive their First Holy Communion—below are their names. I don’t know, so let’s get started! Please join us in praying Memorares for the end of abortion. This is a most powerful prayer, and “this kind can only be cast out by prayer and fasting.” (Mt 17:20) Let’s keep track of our prayers, so we will encourage each other to pray more. You can pray the Memorare yourself, or with friends, family, or with your class at school. We’ll even pray on the air. And once you’ve accumulated 100 Memorares, please enter that number onto our “Memorare Meter.” relevant radio.com There are two opportunities to attend the Mass for Expectant Mothers on Mother’s Day Sunday May. 12th Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., celebrates the Mass at Holy Name Cathedral at 12:30 p.m., and Bishop Alberto Rojas celebrates the Mass in Spanish at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Parish in Chicago.
