The Principality of Andorra is a small independent state that shines like a
jewel embedded in the middle of the Pyrenees, between Spain and France. Here the mountains are high, the snow abundant and the sun is nearly
omnipresent throughout the year due to the region’s orientation to the Mediterranean. Only 468 km² (181 sq mi) make up the country but it is difficult
to imagine a greater concentration of attractions. The countless opportunities for leisure and entertainment for all ages, the vast cultural offerings,
the excellent food, the stimulating night life and of course the snow and
the mountains at the epicentre of the galaxy of emotions that is Andorra.

More than half a century’s passion for skiing
Everything started back in 1957, with the opening of the first ski lift in El Pas de la Casa, Coll
Blanc. The engine marked the beginning of the golden era in the history of skiing in Andorra and,
with the opening of the ski lift, the starting pistol sounded for the first ski slopes in the country.
More than half a century later, Andorra has become a paradise for ski lovers. There are two
large domains, Grandvalira and Vallnord, which between them have more than 300 km
of skiable slopes. These slopes also offer varied, top-quality services adapted to all preferences and ages, whether aimed at fanatics of snow sports or at those who wish to enjoy the
snow and the mountains without having to put on any ski boots.
In recent years, Andorra has taken a qualitative leap ahead in promoting skiing, by successfully
organising top-level sporting events. European or World Cups in diverse modalities, both in
Vallnord as well as in Grandvalira, with great media repercussion, are a good example of this.
The effort, the dedication and the enthusiasm of the Andorran people has meant that over the
last 50 years, we have perfected all the services related to snow and skiing. Today, Andorra is
an ideal destination for those looking for their dream holiday in the snow.

The domain of the snow.
More than 200 km of slopes
Grandvalira is the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees and in the south
of Europe, with 118 slopes of all levels, and a total of 210 skiable
kilometres.
The area also has a far-reaching parallel offer of restaurants and leisure
time activities and is the habitual setting for top-class international competitions. Grandvalira is in the north of the Principality of Andorra, in the
border area with France. The space it occupies belongs to two of the seven Andorra parishes (Encamp and Canillo) and is made up of six sectors
that were combined into a single resort 10 years ago: Pas de la Casa, Grau
Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp.
In 2016, Grandvalira will once again be a World Cup ski resort and will hold
the Ladies Alpine Skiing World Cup on 27th and 28th of February and the
Speed Skiing World Championships from the 10th to 13th March. The ski
resort also continues to be committed to off-piste skiing by hosting the
sixth edition of the intercontinental challenge known as the Skiers Cup that
will bring together the best freeride and freestyle riders from Europe and
the United States from the 30th January to the 4th February. The Freeride
Junior World Championship also returns to Grandvalira for the second
year running with the best young riders on the international scene from the
28th to 30th January. Grandvalira will also host the Total Fight Snowboard
on 25th and 26th March and the Total Fight Freeski on 1st and 2nd April.

Snow Schools
By joining Grandvalira’s ski school, you will discover
how much you can improve and get hooked on the
world of snow. It goes beyond choosing between
learning in a group or in a one-to-one lesson, beyond
being regarded as a beginner or mastering your technique. Grandvalira ski and snowboard school has six
centres and more than 400 true snow ambassadors.
A group of people who, devoting their lives to skiing
and snowboarding will accompany you, review your
tracks and give you tips for improvement. The school
also provides a video service to help you correct your
technique. And for the younger members of the family, five thematic children’s areas: Bababoom Circus,
the Imaginarium Circuit and the Family Park Mon(t)
Magic.
Adventure activities
Grandvalira has 210 km of slopes to enjoy. The moment you think you’ve explored everything, you realize
that there’s still so much more to discover. You may find
out that rackets are not just for tennis or perhaps try
skidding in a snowmobile on the white asphalt, getting
a bird’s-eye-view of the ski domain from a paraglider.
Grandvalira is about skiing and so much more.
Freestyle & Freeride
Would you like to really experience gravity? Do you
believe that nothing is unattainable and find yourself
constantly pursuing new challenges? Do you see life
from the perspective of your board, regardless of
where you are? Rest assured, in Grandvalira you will
find three Freestyle areas for all ski levels and more
than 13 km of off-slope tracks. The perfect place
to get acquainted with freestyle and freeride, or to
master the technique at our freestyle and freeride
schools. Don’t miss our snowpark at night, it opens
until 9 pm!

the resort will see high-profile athletes such as Lindsay Vonn, among others.

VALLNORD
Vallnord Arcalís - Be daring!
Arcalís is synonymous to the best snow. The freeride mecca,
the home of the Freeride World Tour. The most alpine and
sportive ski resort of Andorra.
A wonderful area with ideal conditions for gliding down between trees and untamed nature. The incredible changes in
level and steep channels, the height and its location make it
the most alpine station in Andorra, with spectacular freeride
areas and top-level international sports events.
If you are a beginner, don’t worry, we have the largest green
ski slope in the Pyrenees. There is also a snow garden equipped with all the latest trends for the youngest members of
the family to learn how to ski, as well as family areas such as
Agustina Park.
20
Vallnord Arinsal - Do as you please!
Enjoy the snow in the best setting. With live music on the slopes. With plenty of life at the resort and
in the town of Arinsal. Enjoy the best freestyle, with spaces created by the ASP Snow Parks team.
A really great atmosphere with top-class restaurants and services at the foot of the slopes so that you
can enjoy an ideal holiday. Arinsal is aimed at couples and young people, but it is also ideal for families
who want the greatest convenience with respect to access, slopes and services.
Access to the resort’s services are from the centre of Arinsal with the Orriols cable-car or with the
latest generation Josep Serra chairlift.
Vallnord Pal - Everything you can imagine
and more!
Great emotions for small and large families. Try out the Jump, enjoy being pulled on sledges by dogs
and even skiing with the animated character, Pocoyó.
The place to learn, to laugh, to share, and so on. Pal is the closest ski resort to the centre of Andorra, in
addition to also offering convenient access from the modern cable car in La Massana. The gentle profile
of its mountains and the magic of its forests mean that the entire family can enjoy this resort to the maximum. At Pekepark, there are a whole host of attractions for learning to ski while playing in one of the best
snow gardens in the Pyrenees. The ski and snowboard school have instructors who are specially trained
in teaching skiing to young children.
This winter, make sure you don’t miss Ski & Lounge Pla de la Cot’s spectacular terrace with panoramic views.
21
VALLNORD
An all in one experience!
Eating well on the slopes is essential. If you would like to sit
down and try out some exquisite dishes, enjoy the gourmet
restaurants in Vallnord. If you would prefer to eat something
tasty, but more quickly, you can choose your Vallnord menu
or ask for a delicious filled baguette. Make the most of our
restaurants and cafeterias, with incredible views and terraces where you can sunbathe. Everything is prepared with
the greatest care using the best products available on the
market.
Learning to ski?
It couldn’t be easier at Vallnord. Ski, Snowboarding, Telemark,
Freestyle and Freeride with the specialized ski instructor from
Vallnord ski school... No matter the speciality that interests
you, your level or your age. Our 250 expert instructors are at
your disposal to help you achieve your challenge. Schedules
on demand, individual or group lessons, it’s up to you how
you prefer to learn. If you want the best, hire Snowplus, an
exclusive service which includes six hours of completely customized lessons with a qualified instructor and transfers from
your hotel to the resort and back. The little ones will learn by
playing and having fun at the three snow gardens or the three
dedicated baby clubs at the ski resort.
22
Don’t miss out on it!
Freeride World Tour
For the second year running, Vallnord Arcalís will be hosting
the FREERIDE WORLD TOUR, the top international category
in this modality.
Arcalís has been very fortunate to join this prestigious international circuit as there are only five stops on the tour: Chamonix
in France, Fieberbrunn in Austria and Verbier in Switzerland,
along with Vallnord Arcalís for the European stages. Alaska
will be the setting for the only event to take place in America.
Make sure to put 23rd and 24th of January this winter in
Andorra down in your diary!
Ski Mountaineering
World Cup
As is starting to become habitual, Vallnord will host two trials
of the SkiMo World Cup this winter. Arcalís will host the traditional “Font Blanca” individual time trials on 16th of January.
On 17th of January, Arinsal, with its 1,000 meter difference
in height, will be the challenge to be overcome in the Vertical
Race.

Culture
Andorra has a long history. In 1278 the Principality of Andorra was born with the signature of
the “Pareatges” between the Bishop of Urgell and the count of Foix, but man populated the
valleys 5,000 years before then. The outcome is an enormous cultural legacy that has been
treasured through the years. Inquisitive visitors can discover amazing cultural itineraries, museums that describe the customs and local traditions, or the rich Romanesque heritage that
has been with us the last 1,000 years.
If you enjoy finding out about the culture of a country and getting to know what its museums
have to offer, Andorra has 18 different ones, each with a special story of its own. Ask for the
Passmuseu at any Tourist Information Office in the country and take full advantage of its
benefits. Further information at any Tourist Information Office or in the museums themselves.
We also recommend visiting the Casa de la Vall, which will surprise you. This building, which
is the most emblematic one in Andorra, is the former headquarters of the General Council.

Shopping
Andorra is a unique shopping destination. More than 1,500
shops and stores are concentrated in a few acres to ensure that
you find what you are looking for. Designer and luxury goods,
fashion, jewellery, beauty, perfumes, pharmaceuticals or electronics can be found seven days a week. In Andorra the friendliness of a small shop is often combined with the glamour and
splendour of boutiques that have nothing to envy those of the
great world capitals. Escaldes-Engordany Parish is delighted
to present VIVAND, an open-air shopping and leisure time area
exclusively for pedestrians, in Avinguda Carlemany.
Andorra Shopping Festival 2015
A creative festival in Andorra La Vella and Escaldes to enjoy
shopping with a blend of fashion, art, leisure time and culture. Unique shop windows, urban art, music and plays in the
street, gastronomy and a whole host of other activities. We look
forward to seeing you with offers, fantastic promotions and a
wide range of entertainment. This autumn, come to the Andorra
Shopping Festival and enjoy new, passionate experiences.
Advance on the sales!
Our sales start days before those of the neighbouring countries,
France and Spain; so make the most of them! Our winter sales
start at the end of December and last through to February and
the summer sales run from June to the end of August.

Accomodation
Spending some days in Andorra is always a good choice. 285 tourist
establishments that provide a total of almost 43,000 beds all over
the country will guarantee it. Whatever your budget or nature you will
find accommodation that suits you. Looking for a hotel in the heart of
the town? No problem, transport is excellent. You can be on the local
slopes straight after breakfast. Would you rather sleep nearer the slopes?
Perfect, the only headache is the choice between the multiple options of
accommodation available.
You can enjoy rural tourism in Andorra! The Principality now has the leading
accommodation of this kind. Those who love being in nature can also enjoy
the manned Sorteny refuge, which is open all year round.
Different combinations are all possible in Andorra and every option offers
an excellent balance between quality and price. When the time comes to
leave you will not want to check out.

Gastronomy
The “bordes” are traditional Pyrenean buildings made of stone and timber that in the
past were used to store hay and farming tools. Nowadays most of them are cosy
restaurants where you can enjoy authentic mountain cuisine such as “escudella” a
stew which is an excellent choice to fight the winter temperatures, “trinxat” a tasty mix
of meat and vegetables blended and fried, mountain rice or a plate of snails (some of
the local delights are reserved only for bravest). Costumers can also opt for top-quality
contemporary and creative cuisine directly influenced by the neighbouring French and
Spanish master chefs.
Check out on the agenda whether your visit coincides with any of the many Gastronomic Campaigns that are organised during the winter months and which are the perfect
occasion to try out some exquisite menus proposed by the leading chefs in the country.
You should not leave Andorra without having booked a table to have supper in any
of the restaurants up in the ski stations: share a meal in an unbeatable mountainside
setting with your partner, friends or family. We are convinced you will remember this
experience for a long time!

Wellness
The presence of thermal waters in Les Escaldes was already known in the ancient times. Rich in sulphur and minerals the water
was soon to prove its analgesic, healing,
decongestant and anti-allergic properties.
Today, thousands of visitors a year enjoy
its beneficial effects in Caldea, the largest
hot spring complex in southern Europe.
Caldea offers relaxation, well-being and
more within spectacular surroundings.
The culture of water has taken deep roots
and there are many places that have recently
incorporated wellness areas into their services, some of which have a surface area of
up to 5,000 m².

CALDEA Thermal Centre. These facilities, also designed by the
French architect, Jean-Michel Ruols, give CALDEA a new dimension as well as extending it.
CALDEA continues offering spa fun, the discovery of the pleasures and benefits of thermal water for leisure purposes (a successful concept for families and groups of friends) and now, with
INÚU, it presents a proposal with services aimed at achieving
comprehensive, customised well-being for people, taking into

Andorra’s nightlife
The days are cold on the slopes. But Andorran nightlife
has a warm, friendly feel to it. There are clubs, pubs and
discotheques all over the country, where you can have
a drink while you’re dancing or listening to music and
enjoy your stay, day and night!
After skiing, the ski resorts put on a programme of concerts and festivals, with internationally recognised artists. The evening could also start out in a pub, listening
to a live band, with your favourite drink in your hand and,
if you have enough energy left after spending the day on
the slopes, you might like to end up on the dance floor
of one of the many discotheques until the early hours of
the morning.

Summer in Andorra
With the arrival of the good weather, the country can be discovered all over again. The white countryside that
bewitched the winter is now unrecognisable, but this doesn’t mean that it is lost its charm. It’s time to take
your backpack and to follow one of the many routes which take you, between mountain peaks and lakes, to
places of extraordinary beauty.
In summer, the 468 km² of Andorra will take you to a world of nature in its purest state and of impressive countryside. You will find beautiful views, for example, in the three protected open spaces in the country: Les Valls
del Comapedrosa Communal Natural Park, Sorteny Natural Park and the Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror. The
last of these three has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Discover each nook and cranny of Andorran beauty by following the GRP that goes practically all around the
country. It consists of 100 km divided into seven stages. You can ask for a passport at any of the refuges there
are in Andorra and if you manage to fill it up with a stamp from all of them, you will be given several gifts and a
diploma signed by the Minister of Tourism.
Remember… Summer in Andorra is synonymous with nature, but it also offers many other activities. With
the arrival of the good weather, it is the ideal time to enjoy one of the open-air festivals, live music, or exclusive
shows. If you don’t want to miss a single one, check out the agenda before starting your adventure in Andorra.
During the summer, Andorra organises a wide range of open-air festivities such as the free show “Scalada”
by the Cirque du Soleil, live music in the streets and squares, traditional fairs and town festivals.
If you would like to receive information about all the activities
put on in the country, downloaded the new Andorra Active Tourism App.
