A Visit to Wisconsin without Leaving Florida THE RESULTS ARE IN During Catholic Schools Week our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders had an awesome opportunity. They hung out with a Catholic school in Wisconsin. The students prepared questions to ask each other about their location. The questions were to give clues to guess where each school was located. Selected students in Grs. 5-8 qualified to have their Science Fair Projects entered at the Sarasota County Science Fair in late January. Our students did a wonderful job of presenting their information to the judges. One student from our 5th grade placed 2nd in the category of physical science. CongratuHow did they do this? Well, they used Google lations to Garrett T. for his Hangout. This is like Skype, but much easier for the project titled “It Is Electrifystudents to use. After they found out their location, ing!” they began comparing the schools. Our students were able to see snow! For more about this wonderful way to explore without leaving the classroom, go to: https://www.incarnationschool.edu/news/googlemystery-hangout/ 2016-2017 SCHOOL REGISTRATION Beginning February 19th, we will hold our registration for the next school year. Monday started CSW with our students showing their school spirit with their ICS Spirit wear. The day ended with classroom winners in Grades 4-8 participating in the school Geography Bee. All the student did a great job. There was a long competition to determine the 2nd and 3rd place winners. Patrick H. in 6th Grade took 1st Place, Mickey T. , Grade 8 placed 2nd and Stephanie D., Grade 5 came in 3rd Place. Tuesday was our Angels, Benefactors and Volunteers Mass. After the Mass, there was light breakfast for our guests. The students performed by reading CSW Essays, singing and giving special “Thank You’s.” Our students were happy on Wednesday for they had some special visitors at school. Grandparents and Special Friends of our students had the opportunity to visit the classrooms and have lunch with them. This was one of the students best events of the week. After the grandparents left, the students had an hour recess. They returned to the classrooms for a short break before the next activity. The day ended with students in Grs. PK-4 attending a marionette presentation of “Beauty and the Beast”. The older students gathered in the Church Hall to play “Minute to Win It.” Thursday was a day to honor our military by wearing red, white and blue. We had a prayer service in church to remember men and women in the armed services. The students had collected items for the Military Ministry of the Incarnation Parish. There was a presentation of these items to Mrs. Longo. The service ended by recognizing members of the parish who have relatives in active duty. These families were presented with the “Service Flag” or the “Blue Star Flag”. Mrs. Longo was very grateful to ICS students for their generosity. The day ended with the students having a special snow cone treat. The best part was they could put their own syrup on the cone. Mixing flavors was the best! Friday began early for the teachers. They prepared a light breakfast for the parents and students. It was great to have so many attend. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to have a cup of coffee, a few breakfast goodies and time to visit with families and teachers. Parents then headed to the classrooms to receive a card and a little “sweet” kiss from their child. Shortly after the parents left, the students and teachers boarded the buses for Epiphany Cathedral. At the Cathedral, Bishop Dewane greeted the students at the door and invited them into the Cathedral to pass through the “Doors of Mercy”. Once in the Cathedral, Bishop Dewane spent time explaining the Year of Mercy. The other part of our time in Venice was to take a tour of the Cathedral, walk outside to see the other buildings of the Diocese of Venice, i.e., Our Mother’s House, and to visit the chapel at the school to say the rosary. After everyone completed the activities, we gathered in the Church Hall for a pizza lunch. Upon our return to ICS, the 8th graders organized a Walk-A-Thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital. All the students enjoyed walking with their friends, but most of all to raise money for a good cause! This week was full of great activities. After speaking to the students, the number one event was the trip to the Cathedral. Ask you child what they learned. We also invite you, as a family, to visit the Cathedral. The students enjoyed the snow cones, extra recess and Grandparents Day. We are grateful to the Parent Association and the parent volunteers for helping with Grandparents Day and the Angels Breakfast. We are especially thankful to the parishioners of Incarnation who donated money to pay for the buses and the pizza lunch for our trip to the Cathedral.
