Lewis “Doc” Carter was a dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi serving as Polemarch for the Ft. Myers Alumni Chapter for 11 years. Doc’s dedication to Kappa Alpha Psi was recognized on the local, regional and national Lewis “Doc” Carter levels. During his tenure as Polemarch, the Ft. Myers Alumni Chapter hosted the most outstanding Provincial meeting ever in 1995. Doc was a native of Ft. Myers and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1954. He served our country as a member of the United States Air Force before attending Florida A&M University. The fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is achievement and Doc lived it to the fullest. He completed the study of pharmacology in the top ten percent of the class. His pharmacy career included opening a pharmacy business as well as becoming the Chief of Pharmacy at Lehigh Acres Hospital and pharmacy manger for Eckerd Drugs. Doc possessed a true altruistic spirit and was very active in community and civic affairs serving as Chairman of the Trustee Board at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, and a member of various civic organizations including the American Legion, Royal Palm Lodge 512, Lee County Aids Task Force as well as other community service causes.
