Visit from Mr Thomas George - Our local State Member
Yesterday Mr George visited our school to meet our students and community members.
Mr George was accompanied by Mr Peter Petty, our Tenterfield Mayor. Both Mr George
an Mr Petty enjoyed listening to our students play their marimbas and viewing their
classwork. This is the link to the descriptive writing the students wrote after watching a
movie clip on the Dream Giver. All students had to include rhetorical questions, adverbs,
similes and adjectives in their writing. https://www.smore.com/y9jfd

Healthy Mouth Day
Yesterday our students visited Stanthorpe Hospital grounds to participate in a Healthy
Mouth Day. Our students enjoyed learning about mouth and hand hygiene, plus the
importance of healthy eating. Learning how to make lava lamps, slime and bouncy balls
captivated the students. We were amazed with the generosity of all the stallholders who
gave our students pens, windy turners, toothbrushes, toothpaste, key rings and fruit.

STEM Day with Jennings PS and Deepwater PS
On Tuesday our students participated in a STEM Day with students from Jennings
and Deepwater schools. STEM involves Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Working as teams the students constructed straw towers, slime, paper cup towers and a
crime quiz. A special treat for the day was the Jennings PS infamous Hot Dog meal deals.
Our First Harvest
Last week Tam harvested her first radishes.
Learning @ Mingoola PS
This week our students have explored the features of a plant and flower.
By using a magnifying glass the students observed pollen, stigma, anthers and the
“seed boxes” of a plant. In their mini greenhouses the students’ seeds have developed into
seedlings plus marigold and sunflower seeds were planted. In art the students created the
dissection of a flower and had to label the various sections of the flower.
Our Year 6 students are learning to change direct speech into indirect speech whilst the
younger students are learning to punctuate direct speech. In measurement the students
were given the challenge to estimate weights and check their predictions by using the
scales. Jeannie Baker’s book “Mirror” was read, discussed and each student wrote an
analysis of the book. Fractions and multiplication continues to be focus areas.
Mingoola PS would like to recognise the expertise of Mrs Field, Mrs Newton, Mrs Harpham
and Miss Overall who provide additional support to our students.
Today our students enjoyed exploring perimeter with Mrs Newton.

Message from Belinda
There has been a lovely black jacket left in the school for a few weeks now.
This jacket has been washed and it is on display in the library. If it belongs to you, please
collect it from Sandra tomorrow, Election Day.
Remember, after you vote please enjoy morning tea and/or lunch at the hall, which has
been organised by the Hall committee. All proceeds support the Mingoola Hall.
