The Bakithi Kumalo Band
Friday, November 20, 7:30 p.m.
Northport Library
The Library is pleased to present The Bakithi Kumalo Band,
featuring Grammy Award-winning bassist, composer, and vocalist
Bakithi Kumalo. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa,
Mr. Kumalo has collaborated with Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson, Cyndi
Lauper, Herbie Hancock, Josh Groban, Bob James, Randy Brecker,
and Chaka Khan, among others. Thought of by many as one of the
most talented living bassists, Mr. Kumalo is best known for his bass
solo on the Paul Simon song “Call Me Al.” He collaborated with Simon
on his “Graceland” recording and continues to tour with him. This
all-star band offers an incredible and eclectic blend of jazz and world
beat grooves—musical styles to inspire spirit and soul. The audience will
have the opportunity to meet the performers and enjoy refreshments following the concert. This program is
cosponsored by the Northport Rotary Club. Registration begins November 3 at either library building or online.
Please note: ticket holders will be seated until 7:30 p.m. All others will be seated as space permits. (NENA108)
