“For All the Saints”
Hymnal, #299
Praise God!
For God is gathering the people together.
From near and far we come together –
the wounded and the whole, the weak and the
strong –
We are seeking God’s presence and God’s
forgiveness,
We yearn for God’s direction for our lives.
One:
We gather to pray, and praise, and learn, and so we
offer this unison invocation:
* Prayer of Invocation
Everpresent God, we thank you for your abiding love
and grace in our lives. Forgive us when our schedules
overpower our acknowledgment of the sacred which
surrounds us, or our focus neglects to include your
blessings in our lives. We are grateful for the
opportunity to love you with all our mind, body, and
spirit as we gather for worship in this hour. We pray
in the name of Jesus, who taught us to say together:
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, forever.
Amen.
* Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen. Amen.

All:
Almighty and gracious God, before whom stand the
spirits of the living and the dead, light of light, fountain
of wisdom and goodness;
We praise you O God, and bless your name.
For all who have labored and suffered for freedom,
justice, and the sanctity of the home; and for all who
have given their lives for their country;
We praise you O God, and bless your name.
For beloved family members and friends; and persons
of our community faith who worship you now in the
eternal realm;
We praise you O God, and bless your name.
For the grace which was given to all these, and for the
trust and hope in which they lived and died, may we
hold them in continual remembrance; that the legacy
of their wisdom, companionship, and love may rest
upon our earthly days, and that we may prepare
ourselves to follow them in their Godward way;
We praise you O God, and bless your name.
That we may think of them as forever being with you,
and live in the sure confidence that where they are
someday we will be also;
We praise you O God, and bless your name.
In the communion of God – Creator, Redeemer, and
Holy Spirit, we the living, unite in ascribing
thanksgiving, glory, honor, and praise to you, O God.
Amen.

Gospel Reading
Luke 7:1—10
After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the
people, he entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a
slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to
death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish
elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. When
they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying,
‘He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he loves
our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for
us.’ And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far
from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him,
‘Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have
you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to
come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant
be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, with
soldiers under me; and I say to one, “Go”, and he goes, and
to another, “Come”, and he comes, and to my slave, “Do
this”, and the slave does it.’ When Jesus heard this he was
amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed
him, he said, ‘I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such
faith.’ When those who had been sent returned to the
house, they found the slave in good health.
We Can Share His Love
(Incorporating the Hymn Tune “Jesus Loves Me”)
Words by Nancy Price and Don Besig
Music by Dan Besig
If we just reach out and join our hands,
we can share His love.
If we take the time to understand,
we can share His love.
For the world can be a kinder place
if we keep a smile upon our face.
When we live within God’s grace,
we can share His love.
If we open up our hearts to Him,
we can share His love.
If we learn to always trust in Him,
we can share His love.
For the Lord alone makes all things good
if we live the way we know He would.
when we do the things we should,
we can share His love.
Jesus loves us, this we know.
He protects us as we grow.
He will teach us right from wrong,
be a friend and keep us strong.
Yes, Jesus loves us.
We know He loves us.
When we listen closely to His word
we can share His love.
When we teach the lessons we have
heard,
we can share His love.
We can serve the Lord so many ways;
in the things we do and words we say.
When we follow Him day by day
we can share His love.

“Tiny Houses”
A plan to build a small community of 26 “Tiny Houses” in Detroit is moving
forward and is scheduled to begin this summer. The 300 square foot homes
will be available to carefully screened “working poor” people with annual
incomes of $1,000 a month who cannot afford Habitat for Humanity homes.
At the end of 7 years the residents will own their own homes.
A program explaining this exciting new initiative in Detroit will take place in
early June. More Details on date, time, and location will be forthcoming in
next Friday’s FCC email. In the meantime, if you want to learn more please
contact Bob or Sara Holmes at (734) 358-1325 or rbholmes@umich.edu or
holmess@umich.edu.
The Tiny House program is a project of Cass Community Social Services and
the Cass Community United Methodist Church in Detroit.
Youth Sunday
Youth Sunday was once again a moving and inspiring service. Our youth
worked cooperatively deciding on a
theme and then dividing the roles of
worship throughout the group. Those
gifted in music played in the prelude,
postlude, and anthem times, as
Micaela Keller
pictured here. Six of our seniors
showed poise and wisdom as they
delivered the sermon based upon
the theme of servitude. Congrats to
the youth group on a job well done!
