Last weekend was another good one here at St. James; hectic and full, but good. It started off with the marriage of a very fine couple at 11:15 am on Saturday morning. She is a psycho- therapist, and he is an assistant district attorney who has the capacity to categorize everything. They are both simply nice people. After confessions were finished later that day, we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Bishop and his priest-secretary and master of ceremony, Father T. Kevin Corcoran. Both Bishop and Father Kevin are easy to work with, and their relaxed style makes for a smooth flow of the liturgy. We had a total of thirty people receive the Holy Spirit in a special way. Of this number, twenty-two were part of our Confirmation program, and the other eight were part of the RCIA program. The Confirmation Mass started smoothly and finished the same way. The Bishop commented on the interior beauty of the Church, as well as how magnificent the grounds of our property are. Sometimes it takes someone from the outside to remind us how fortunate we are in having all that we have. On Sunday, we were very happy to meet with the families who memorialized the Stations of the Cross in honor of or in memory of a deceased family member or friend. It was nice to see so many, who had tears in their eyes the day of their loved one’s funeral, now moving on as we all must. It isn’t as if anyone is loved any less. But time moves on, as so must we all. Virginia Andreano is the sole parishioner who had a Station of the Cross given in her honor, dedicated to her by her husband, Frank Mullen. The rest had stations dedicated to the memory of a deceased loved one. The blessing of the Stations took place before the 10:15 am Mass. During the Mass, twenty couples renewed their marriage vows in a short but beautiful ceremony. Again, it is good for a husband and wife to recognize how blessed each is in the other. Wisdom, not age, allows us to appreciate what we have. Tony Piccirillo and Gloria Recchione are the longest married couple who participated in the renewing of their vows. They were married on April 4, 1948. They have been married for sixtyeight years. Right behind them are Vilmo DiPaolo and his wife, Henrietta, who were married on October 15, 1949 for a total of sixty-seven years. Right behind the DiPaolo’s are Charles Roe and Dorothy who were married on October 29, 1949. The youngest married couple participating was Aniello and Trishia DiDio who have been married since November 15, 2014. Getting back to the blessing of the Stations of the Cross, a large crowd gathered for this rare event, and it was truly wonderful to share this special moment in the history of St. James with them. After the blessing, those present went over to the Religious Education office and enjoyed a social and dessert, all organized by the competent Sister Mary Cecile of our staff. In between the blessing of the Stations and the reception, we celebrated the baptism of Francesco Aniello DiDio (whose parents renewed their vows). We welcome Baby Francesco to membership in the Body of Christ. This past Monday night, we celebrated the Fifth Annual Father Francis Reilly Award Dinner at the Brownstone. It was a tremendous crowd, almost 330 present. The journal which was distributed was the largest we ever printed, almost the size of a Totowa phone book, if Totowa had one. Monsignor Patrick Brown and Mr. John D’Ambrosio were worthy recipients of this honor. Former recipients are Mayor John Coiro, Monsignor Eugene Boland, Darlene and Kevin Walsh, and Tommy Manzo all of whom have made an impact on our parish via their faith and hard work on behalf of St. James. We are grateful to Vilmo DiPaolo and our friends at Century 21 for their constant reminder of how important it is that all of us be patriotic. The flags placed on our lawns remind us of the great freedom that is ours and the ultimate sacrifice so many have made on our behalf that these same freedoms might be enjoyed by all who live here. As announced from the pulpit, and in this bulletin, you are asked to remember that all our Masses, Monday through Friday, will be celebrated at 8:00 am during the summer months. Once school starts again, our one Mass per week will be designated as the children’s Mass and will start at 8:15 am. Join us, if you can, for week-day Mass. Summer is a great time for vacation, rest, and relaxation. But we must never take a vacation from God. Father Patrick a request for prayers for: Lt. Gen.
