Executive Director’s Newsletter December 1, 2008 2008 DODGE HOMETOWN SCHOLARSHIP The 2008 Dodge Hometown Scholarship Program has finished with 17 chapters and 10 dealers participating in TN. Last year we had 20 chapters and 12 dealers participating and in 2006 we had 29 chapters and 15 dealers participating. This year the results show over $40,000 being contributed directly in support of local FFA programs. That compares to $62,500 in 2007 and $71,660 in 2006. Lonnie Johnson, Area Program Administrator for Erickson – USA, has worked TN and KY tirelessly on behalf of FFA. One winner from TN will receive a 2009 Dodge Mega Ram Truck worth over $30,000. Here are the preliminary ticket results: TN Commissioner of Agriculture Ken Givens hosts the Foundation’s Sponsoring Committee members (L to R): Sammy Stuard, Lacy Upchurch, Givens, Waymon Hickman, Lee Todd, Bart Krisle and Joe Lancaster. Former Governor Ned R. McWherter was unable to attend the meeting held at Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville. Regarding the effort to continue to ask Governor Bredesen to include $1 million in his budget for the fiscal year 2009-2010, it was the consensus of the committee to write a letter of gratitude to Governor Bredesen for his support to 4-H and FFA over the past three years and to remind him that the need continues to be as great as ever to fund these youth organizations. An effort to meet with the Governor personally will also be made. BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING!!! The regular meeting of the Foundation Board of Directors will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 in the Board Room of the Cool Springs Marriott Hotel in Franklin. We will begin at 1:00 p.m. and adjourn about 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation Awards Banquet in the Ballroom of the Marriott at 6:30 p.m. The Tennessee Association FFA contributed $334 and Sevier County FFA Chapter gave $100 to the Texas Ag Ed Disaster Relief Fund. The total contributions from the TN Ag Ed Family amounted to $2,339.25 for this relief effort. Jane Trew donated $500 to the Boyd Trew Scholarship Fund. The Northwest TN Chapter of Quail Unlimited contributed $250 to the 2008 Wildlife Production & Management Entrepreneurship Proficiency Awards Program. Century Club memberships were received from: Darrell Ailshie ($100), Mark Gateley ($25) and James Messler ($200). Individual gifts (undesignated) were received from: Vernon Glover ($500) and R. D. Robinson ($25). A gift of $100 was received from Robert & Margaret Chowning in honor of Tim Chowning. Memorial contributions were received from: Mark & Jill Reeves ($100) to the Barry Baker Memorial Fund. Frankie Lyons donated $5 to the William Coley Memorial Fund.
