St. Amant FFA GATOR BITES By: Blake LaBauve, Reporter State Convention Our chapter had 8 members attend the 86th Louisiana FFA State Convention this past summer. The Trip was full of fun and lots of awards! St. Amant was recognized as a Silver Emblem Chapter. We had 4 State Degree Recipients: Megan Bordelon, Katie Costanza, Edmond Rachal, and Jacob Smith. Katie Costanza won first in the state for prepared public speaking. Congratulations to our award recipients! In addition to these recognitions, our chapter was able to manage a hunger awareness booth in the convention expo. Our officers even conducted a workshop as the Hunger Outbreak Response Team! Great job to St. Amant FFA for amplifying their state convention experience! We look forward to another successful trip next summer. Area IV Leadership Over the summer the St. Amant FFA Chapter attended the Area IV Leadership camp that was held in Bunkie. Leadership camp was filled with education, recreation and entertainment. The educational portion consisted of FFA leadership training designed to meet the needs of all members. State FFA officers conducted all leadership training sessions. Recreation time was spent swimming, fishing, and playing basketball or dodgeball. At this camp, new Area IV officers were elected. Tristyn James was interviewed by nominating committee this year and gained a lot from the experience! There were also public speaking CDE practice competitions and much more. We encourage all members to consider going to camp and participate in all of the amazing opportunities it offers! Washington Leadership Conference Our President Megan Bordelon and Vice President Katie Costanza , had the opportunity to attend Washington Leadership Conference this past summer. They participated in many workshops focused on citizenship, diversity, and advocacy. They were able to meet hundreds of members from all around the country and even tour Washington D.C.!
