St. Amant FFA GATOR BITES October 2013 By: Megan Bordelon, Reporter 212/360 Conference By: Katie Costanza The 212/360 Conference is designed to improve the personal skills of FFA members. 212 is a leadership-based workshop named after the “boiling point” temperature of water; its activities and lessons are meant to improve your own habits. When a few St. Amant FFA members attended last year, the workshop was based on virtues and good character. 360, however, is based on teamwork. It is named after the degrees of a circle, representing how team members connect for a larger purpose; it teaches of social strategies and putting your personal skills to use. This year, on September 28th, Madison Benson, Shelby Beavers, and I went to the 360 conference this year and learned valuable skills regarding influence. We learned tips on influencing others, building relationships, earning trust, collaborating with others, and other subjects; activities for these lessons included drawing caricatures of people who inspired us, building marshmallow-spaghetti towers, and more. The 212 and 360 conferences are a lot of fun and recommended for any FFA member St. Amant FFA Alumni Chicken Dinner Sale Each year, we host a Chicken Dinner Sale to help raise money to travel to National Convention. A lot of hard work and dedication went in to this event, and at the end, we received the prize of best colors! We had a lot of fun and a great experience! On Saturday, September 5th, members from our FFA chapter attended the Out of Darkness walk. All of the participating teams were provided with Jambalaya and drinks after the walk ended. All of the proceeds went towards suicide prevention and the research of mental diseases. Not only did we participate, but we also donated over $2,000 in funds to the cause. Tylor Cain & Chandler Templet finished in the top ten while Mr. Head finished second. What’s the next item of business?
