Mission Offering Update As we near the end of 2015 we have about $4,500 in our mission fund. This will go toward our 2016 mission commitment of $17,400. As we have the past few years we are encouraging special gifts for missions. Our goal is to meet this commitment as soon as possible in 2016 and then begin working at our 2017 commitment. If you are considering a special gift toward the end of this year, our congregational mission offering is one option. We show our love for the Savior with our offerings because he first loved us. As we move toward Christmas we see that love with our Savior in the manger and are moved to respond. Merry Christmas. Welcome-- We are glad you could join us today! It is our hope that this service is a blessing to you. Please join us for worship again soon. Please save the last two rows of pews for parents with small children. Parents with little ones: If your child becomes restless during the service, that’s okay… We’re glad they’re here, and Jesus is pleased when they are brought to hear his Word: “Let the little children come to me.” Quiet activity bags are available at the entrance of the sanctuary. If you need to be with your child in the Fellowship Hall, the service can be heard through a speaker. Five minutes before the worship service begins the usher will light the candles. This is our signal to quiet down and prepare our hearts for worship. (There are prayers for worship preparation on page 10 in the front part of the hymnal.) Restrooms are conveniently located to the left as you exit the sanctuary. Everyone is invited to join us in the fellowship hall after worship for coffee, snacks, and conversation! Please help to keep the chapel clean by leaving all food and drinks in the fellowship hall. Please silence your cell phone before the start of the service. Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” 10 “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. 11 John answered, “The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.” 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” 13 “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them. 14 Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.” 15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ. 16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and preached the good news to them. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
