Please consider leading and/or participating to help us make a successful organization that will benefit our children’s school. JOHN SHIELDS PTO NEWSLETTER – MARCH 1, 2014 2 Clothing & Toy Resale Friday, March 14th at 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 15th at 8 to 11 a.m. John Shields and McDole Elementary are holding their semi-annual children’s clothing and toy sale. Become a seller and earn up to 70% of your sales. Remaining proceeds will go to support the school of your choice. If you’d like to sell, you will be assigned a seller number and be given a tag template to print and attach to each item. You set the price, drop off the items the day before the sale and we can do the rest. If you volunteer for the sale or set up, you can earn up to 70% of your sales. Volunteers can also pre-shop before the sale is open to the public. Website Committee Needs HELP – THIS SCHOOL YEAR The KSS PTO Website Committee is looking for a volunteer interested in helping to set up our Square Market for payment processing. Basic PC skills with online services experience (i.e. Flickr, Yahoo Groups, or similar) and basic photo editing skills required. Please contact Wes at kssptoweb@yahoo.com with any questions or if you are interested in helping. Mother & Son BINGO Night A Brilliant Success! There were lots of laughs, hugs, shots of joy and noogies – yes, even noogies! A BIG ‘thankyou’ goes out to the celebrity guests – Mr. Countryman, Mr. Wenz & Mr. Rutter for their outstanding MC and comic entertainment, as well as to the event’s hardworking committee – Dawn Eby, Lara Hosking, Amy Nordell, Cindy Babka & Jill Nuppenau. This year’s event was not only a fun night for mothers and sons, but it was transformed into a fundraiser for the PTO. The committee managed to raise $1,100 that help fund our technology purchases for our school. Thank you everyone for your support! A ‘thank-you’ also goes out to the wonderful sponsors/supporters of the event. The Communications Committee has reached and surpassed their membership goal for the PTO Group on Facebook. We currently have 232 members! Thank you everyone who helped make this goal a reality. Please consider volunteering your time to help out at one of these various programs/events. Daddy Daughter Dance – “How Sweet It Is” – April 26th How sweet would it be to help with this fabulous event? Volunteers are needed to help make decorations, purchase decorations, make gift baskets and setup the day of the event. Volunteers are also needed to help run the event, dessert donations, and for cleanup. The committee is also looking for a photographer to capture the special moments of the evening. The PTO’s Beautification Committee has announced their official Spring Cleanup date for Sunday, April 27th from 1 to 4 p.m. We need LOTS of volunteers to make this event successful! Three hours of time has been set aside to clean up the front and sides of the school. We will be weeding, raking, trimming as needed, and picking up trash. Girl Scout Troop #4106 will be helping us with the cleanup, and they will be planting flowers with the money they earned from various Girl Scout events. Thanks Troop #4106! The Kaneland John Shields Parent Teacher Organization (KSS-PTO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the educational experience of all Kaneland John Shields Elementary Students by providing fun and educational programs and activities during the school year. All teachers and administrators at the school, as well as all parents and guardians of John Shields students, comprise our voting membership. We rely on our members to help with the many programs and activities the Kaneland John Shield PTO sponsors. We are striving to make our programs family- oriented, educational and environmentally conscious. Our next meeting is March 12th, 2014. Get Connected at 6:30pm.
