Taller de José is a community resource center, located in Chicago’s Li le Village, which offers accompaniment to people in need, connec ng people to services and services to people. The following is a story of accompaniment at Taller de José. Este es una historia de acompañamiento: Jaime came to Taller de José because he was having difficulty understanding the documents he was receiving about his medical bills. He had insurance, but he s ll had significant costs due to his severe medical issues. At Taller de José, we helped connect him with the social worker at the hospital who explained what Jaime needed to do in order to receive financial assistance. Jaime was given a long list of documenta on to gather, and he asked if someone could help him gather it from various organiza ons and government agencies (for example, the Social Security Administra on). Taller de José able to accompany Jaime through the process, advoca ng with him at each step along the way; a er submi ng it all to the hospital, much of his debt was forgiven and the social worker arranged for Jaime to pay the rest with a payment plan he could afford. Taller de José was grateful that we could help Jaime on his journey of recovery and healing. For more informa on, visit www.tallerdejose.org Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord March 20, 2016 From the Pastor’s Desk... Page Three Desde el escritorio del Párroco… This weekend we celebrate Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. Our Church commemorates the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem with the distribu on of palm branches. Jesus entered that city knowing that soon he would lay down his life for the sins of the world. As Jesus made his entry into the city, crowds welcomed him by waving palm branches in the air and shou ng "Hosanna! Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" Throughout this Holy Week, we hope to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, following him to the cross and beyond. This journey with Jesus begins with a first step, Palm Sunday. But it is only a first step. Holy Week invites us to con nue walking together through the celebra ons of Tenebrae, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Those who are able to come to church are encouraged to do so. And those who cannot come to church are asked to take me to read, to pray, and to reflect on the Passion of the Lord at home, with family, and with friends. No one should miss out on these special opportuni es to be united in prayer with Christ and the Church in some of the most profound liturgies of the year. Throughout the season of Lent we have considered how we can help Jesus sow seeds of mercy in the world. Through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, we have hoped to be one with our Lord in transforming our world. The struggle to turn away from sin and to believe in the Good News is a struggle that we all share. And so it is only when we are united in communion with one another and with God that we can hope that the seeds we have sown will begin to take root, to grow, and to flourish. God accompanies us on this sacred journey from sin to grace, from death to new life. Holy Week invites us to walk with God on a journey to resurrec on. Let us be united with Jesus and his disciples— at the Last Supper, at the foot of the cross, at the tomb, and at the table. In these days, may the story of our faith become more than a drama c retelling of past events. May we experience the power of God blossoming forth with new life and new hope.
