Dear Parishioners,
I pray that your Christmas was a merry one. I know many of us who have lost loved ones during this time of
year (my mom passed on Christmas Eve twelve years ago and my nephew passed at 20 yrs old on the 20 th of December several years ago as well) I have a hard time being merry because of our losses. What helps me get
through it are several things: all of you and your faithfulness to God and His Church, the fact that both my mom
and my nephew loved Christmas and they would want me to continue to celebrate the birth of our Savior, and
the fact that I KNOW I will see them again and I don’t want them to ask me why I stopped celebrating our
Lord’s birth. Christmas is a time to thank God for sending His Son into our world for our salvation and to thank
him that we were blessed enough to have these people in our lives for however long He deemed fit. Each of us
is a little better, a little holier, and a little wiser for having had these people in our lives. God has blessed us and
will continue to bless us. May we celebrate with those who are left and may we feel the same way, together we
can bring joy to this season, for we know the reason we celebrate.
New Years is here, 2012 is almost gone and 2013 is waiting to begin! May we begin the New Year by celebrating
together the Holy Day of Mary, The Holy Mother of God at Mass. Our Lady is such a great example and intercessor to us, that we must remind one another that we have a Heavenly Mother who cherishes us and cares for
us and intercedes to her Son for us. 2013 will be a year of blessings and challenges for each of us and how we
receive the blessings and did with the challenges will depend, at least in part, on how our faith guides or decisions. Therefore, we need all the help we can get and that help can be obtained from Mary.
Tomorrow, I leave on vacation to see Fr. Pius. The Dominicans have enabled me to use frequent flyer miles
(that’s what happens when you have to fly here and there for meetings all the time) to get to Italy for under fifty
($50.00), so I couldn’t pass it up. I will celebrate Mass on January 1st for all of you and for blessings on you in
2013, please pray for Fr. Pius and me as well.

Weddings
Weddings must be arranged with one of the parish priests at least
six months in advance before a marriage date can be set. Participation in the Pre-Cana program is required by the Diocese. For
Pre-Cana times and locations, contact the Family Life Office
(614) 241-2560. The parish also offers a Pre-Cana class jointly
with St. Nicholas parish twice each year.
Ministry to the Sick
When we care for the sick, we serve Christ himself in the suffering members of His Mystical Body. If a member of your family
is ill, hospitalized, or in a convalescent home, please notify the
Parish Center or Sr. Maureen, our parish minister to the sick and
elderly.

Dominican Fathers - Thank You

Epiphany is traditionally celebrated on the 12th day after Christmas (Jan. 6). (The Bishops of Ohio have transferred the celebration to the nearest Sunday to allow more Catholics to participate,
which is why it is only nine days after Christmas this year.) It is
the day we celebrate the coming of the Magi to visit the Christ
child. Tradition tells us there were three Magi, and name them as
Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.
Epiphany was also a traditional day
on which families blessed their
homes. To bless your home on this
day, you will need some chalk. The
blessing begins with one of the parents saying: “Blessed be the Name of
the Lord” and all responding: “now and forever.” Then a member of the family reads from Scripture (Luke 19:1-9). Then on
the lintel over the main door and over the doors to the other
rooms write in chalk:

(CMB stands either for the names of the Magi or for Christus
Mansionem Benedicat: May Christ bless this house.) Finally, a
parent says the prayer of blessing: “Lord God of Heaven and
Earth, you have revealed your only-begotten Son to every nation
by the guidance of a star: Bless this house and all who inhabit it.
Fill them with the light of Christ, that their concern for others
may truly reflect your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.”

Exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls
An exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls will take place at the
Cincinnati Museum Center with more than 600 items,
including the oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible,
iconic objects from everyday life, artifacts from Jerusalem’s
City of David, and an actual three-ton stone from
Jerusalem’s Western Wall. We will consider chartering a
bus for the exhibit if we have enough interest. We will
consider a day during the week of April 1-5, 2013. Please

“But someone may say, ‘How are the
dead raised? With what kind of body
will they come back?’ You fool! What
you sow is not brought to life unless it
dies. And what you sow is not the
body that is to be but a bare kernel of
wheat, or perhaps, or some other kind;
but God gives it a body as he chooses,
and to each of the seeds its own body.” (1Col 15:35-38)
Not every Christian has enough faith to worry about the
kind of body that will exist after the resurrection. Anything
that is mysterious is dismissed as unworthy of their attention. But the only way we can keep our eye on what is unseen is to hold these truths before our eyes. St Paul says,
“We look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for
what is seen is transitory, but what is not seen is eternal” (2Co:18). The happiness of man depends on his possession of something eternal. No man can have a peaceful
soul as long as he has only transitory things to give meaning to his life. His life will have no real meaning. As Scripture says, “Vanity of vanity; everything under the sun is
vanity.”
To climb above the sun is to enter into mystery. People
who run away from mystery are depriving themselves of
real companionship with others. This companionship is
more than an exchange of affection with a few acquaintances who are congenial with us. This comradeship springs
from compassion for the whole person who is seen as one
in danger of losing the happiness they received when he or
she was given new life, the same as our self. God's gift of
faith has given us new life and saved us from slavery to a
meaningless way of life.
We should rejoice over the truth that the Church teaches
about the resurrection. We will share life with each other
with our body and soul. Faith keeps our joy strong even in
the face of mystery. The human person lives through many
mysteries in this life. God invites us to reap the benefits
that come from the great mystery that leads to eternal life.
