JARED BOX ITEMS NEEDED A few weeks ago we published a “Thank You” from both the Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center and The Jared Box Project. Students from our Kindergarten, First and Sixth grades CCD Classes had assembled Jared Boxes earlier this year from items they and you, our parishioners had donated. The Mount Nittany Children’s Advocacy Group of Bellefonte has again notified us of a desperate need for these Jared Boxes. We have a bin in the back of the church to collect the items that are needed. The suggested items are as follows: crayons/ markers, coloring books, small toys, bubbles, pens/pencils, small notepads/journals, small puzzles, card games and travel size board games. All items should be able to fit in a shoebox. Please do not give any dolls or food items. As a reminder, these boxes are given to the young patients in the Surgical, Emergency, Pediatric and Children’s Inpatient Units of The Mount Nittany Medical Center. Your help with donating any of the items requested is greatly appreciated. ICON PAINTING WORKSHOP The Bethany Retreat Center in Frenchville (about 50 minutes from State College) is offering an opportunity to learn about and create an icon painted in the ancient Byzantine style. Mary Kay Laplante will lead the class in creating an icon of the Mother of God, ‘Tenderness,’ using ancient techniques and all natural materials rich with symbolic meaning. This workshop is similar to the one she lead last year, with a different subject for the icon. Students will receive step-by-step instructions and all necessary materials will be provided. The underlying theology will be equally emphasized with each technical step demonstrated. The days will include class instruction and painting, personal prayer time, optional Centering Prayer, daily Mass and home cooked meals. The workshop will be held from November 6th - 12th (Sunday to Saturday). Ar r ival is after 4:00 PM on Su n day w ith supper at 6:00 PM. Departure is on Saturday after 1:00 PM. The offering for the class is $800 per person with a nonrefundable deposit of $250 required. This amount includes lodging and meals for the week, class instruction and all icon materials. These materials provided include: a prepared icon board, set of brushes, palette, 23K gold leaf, pigments, and all other necessary materials to complete the icon. Partial scholarships are available.
