From Fr. John
I want to extend a heartfelt word of thanks to all who helped make our Holy Week and Easter services
prayerful and beautiful. To my fellow clergy, the Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Lectors, Ushers and to
those who decorated, thanks very much.
It was equally great to see the large numbers of people who participated throughout the week and on Easter
Sunday, and did so with great reverence and attention. Thanks also to all of you for your Easter gifts to the
Parish and to all who made a gift to me personally.
The Easter Season continues for the next 50 days and culminates with the Feast of the Holy Spirit on May 24th.
The Feast of Pentecost is our Parish Feast Day and this year it is most particularly special.
This year the Feast of the Holy Spirit will mark the beginning of our Jubilee Year which ends next year in
2016 when our Parish marks its 50 year anniversary since its founding in 1966.
We have a number of events already in the planning stages. Our chairpersons and various committees are hard
at work to make them great events. You will be hearing more about the details via announcements, the bulletin
and the mail. We encourage everyone to support our efforts through participation and volunteering. We hope
to make our Jubilee Year, a great year of celebrating faith and family. Happy Easter, once again and Happy
Anniversary to Holy Spirit Parish.
RCIA Congratulations.
Congratulations to all the RCIA candidates who received their Sacraments last weekend at the Easter Vigil on
Holy Saturday evening. It was a wonderful liturgy and I feel privileged to have been the priest that conferred
the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation. I pray that the journey which you have walked with us this past
year will continue with a lifetime of faith and grace. All Gods blessings to you.
Congratulations to Annel Ballard, Jody Casale, Anthony Cepeda, Carl Conklin, Elisa DiPaterio, Suzanne
Lupinetti and Lindsey Val Alstyne.
A huge thank you to the RCIA Team of Catechists who prepared our fine candidates for the reception of the
Sacraments. Handing on the faith to others, whether it be as catechists, parents or priest is one of the greatest
gifts one can give to another person. God Bless.
Incidentally, if you know of any adult 18 years or older who would like to become a member of the Catholic
Church or needs to complete their Sacraments of Holy Communion and/or Confirmation, please call Fr. John
or Deacon Ray at the Rectory Office. Classes begin again in the fall.
Bereavement Support Group.
I’m happy that we are forming a Bereavement Support Group. I, along with a few fellow parishioners have
been planning our first series of meetings which will begin on Tuesday, April 21st at 7:30pm and run for five
weeks. Bereavement Group will offer parishioners an opportunity to share their stories of loss. If you would
like to participate in the meetings please call the Rectory Office to register and for more information. Your
loss is always in my prayers.
Our meetings will conclude with a special Bereavement Memorial Mass on Tuesday, May 19th at 7:30pm in
the Church. All are invited to attend. The Mass will be offered for the deceased members of our Parish.
Grotto Mass and Dedication
On Monday, May 11th, at 7:00pm at the Grotto and Shrine of Our Lady I will be celebrating a Mass of
Dedication. As most of you know, the work on the grotto restoration was completed shortly before winter
through the generosity of a fellow parishioner. I hope you can join us for this outdoor Mass with music by our
choir. Thanks to all who did the restoration work. All are welcome anytime to visit the grotto and say a prayer
or light a candle. Candles are available at the Rectory Office or from one of the priests.

Peace? Thoughts on a Clash of Civilizations?
We are one Body
On the road to Damascus, Jesus told Saul that when
he attacked Christians, he attacked Jesus. “I am
Jesus whom you are persecuting” (Acts 26:15). Our
Lord cannot be separated from the members of his
Body. We stand united with all who suffer for
Christ.
"He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has
eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
