PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Friends:
It's a privilege and honor for me to serve as the President of
our Temple. Thanks to the Board of Governors, the Board
of Trustees, many volunteers & community members, our
priests and the manager for their dedicated support in the
operation and maintenance of the Temple.
We completed several projects during this past year. Here
are the highlights of the major accomplishments:

After receiving zoning variance for the new house and
obtaining the DEED consolidation, we received the full
permit for the entire project of house renovation and
new addition of the Bal-Vihar school building. The
construction work is well in progress. I am pleased to
inform you that we are now closer than ever before in
meeting this dire need for more space for our Bal-Vihar.
We had a grand celebration of Mahakumbhabhishekam
with enthusiastic devotee participation and priests
chanting mahamantras. The inspiring poojas, spiritual
atmosphere, beautiful weather and smiling crowd gave
all a heavenly experience.
We celebrated many other Poojas like Shrinathaji
Patotsav, Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami, and
Govardhan pooja with ever increasing devotee
presence.
We installed state of the art security system with
multiple cameras and monitors with recording capability
and many other features.
We added several donation plaques on Kalpataru
donation tree in the Community Hall lobby.
We had speaker programs on Graduation Pooja and on
Gandhi Jayanti.
On the outside, we improved aesthetics of the Temple
with the landscaping, tree trimming, and mulching, with
the help of many devoted young volunteers from the
Community Connection Committee.






It’s a long list of accomplishments. Thanks for your support.
We have five long-term goals:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Build a sound financial foundation for the Temple
Maintain harmony within the community
Prepare for transition to the next generation
Support the needy in the community around us
Continue with Inter-faith dialog
Please join us to meet these goals.
I know you all spread your generosity in many different
charities, but at this time I urge you to keep our Temple on
the top of your list. Our goal of providing the community
with their spiritual, social and cultural needs appears to be
fulfilling, but our next goal of providing educational
environment for our next generation can only be achieved
with the broad base support from everyone in our
community.
The Board of Governors, Board of Trustees and many
volunteers are dedicated to serving the Temple. Your
generous support will make our work easier in achieving the
goals. May God bless you.
Thank you,
Nagji Sureja

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATION
We started the Bal-Vihar program in 1999 and held our first
Annual Day ceremony in 2000. The program started with a few
dedicated parents getting together to plant the seeds of
knowledge for our children. The program has been very
successful and registration for the 2011-12 Balvihar-year
reached a maximum of 200 students.
The success of the program has created the challenge of a lack
of space. The board has already generously approved a
$500,000 budget for this project, but as we all know, we cannot
make this program work without extra financial support. On
behalf of the Bal-Vihar program, we ask everyone to donate to
this cause to further the education of the next generation of
Indian-Americans.
th
On June 10, 2012 we celebrated the 13 Bal-Vihar Annual Day,
th
and this fall we will start our 14 year of the Bal-Vihar Program.
Here are some of the noteworthy accomplishments of the 20112012 Bal Vihar School-year:







We had 200 students enrolled - our highest ever.
Our central snack distribution program has been working
exceedingly well - thanks to our dedicated volunteers!
We had 12 students teaching/volunteering in the program.
We supplemented our curriculum by a web-based Hindi
learning program with Gujarati forthcoming this year.
More parents than ever became involved in the program.
The Bal-Vihar parents raised over $13,000 for the BalVihar Class room project.
The students tie-dyed T-shirts and then wore them for a
successful Holi celebration.
To date 1,595 students have enrolled in the program. We
always look for new ideas to improve the program. If you have
any suggestions for making the program better, please send us
an email at gbt101@yahoo.com.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Greater
Baltimore Temple’s Board of Governors, and Board of Trustees
for their support. They have not only supported the program but
have donated generously to make the program successful.
We appreciate the hard work of our coordinators, teachers,
parents, volunteers, subcommittee chairs and especially of the
students. As a Community Service we continued our celebration
of Gandhi Jayanti by packing lunch bags for the area soup
kitchens, and by supporting the Temple’s Annadata program.
Most importantly, we celebrated our culture and had fun along
the way with the Ganesh Pooja, the Diwali celebration, the
Saraswati Pooja, the Holi celebration, and the Annual Picnic.
-- Jitesh Parikh, Nalini Potineni, Hari Razdan
The 11th Annual Graduation Pooja and Celebration was conducted in a grand manner on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the
Greater Baltimore Temple. Many high school and college graduates from the congregation, along with their families and
friends, participated in the Saraswati Pooja conducted by Pandits Joshiji and Muraliji for continued success for the
graduates. This was followed by felicitations of the graduates by Sushma Swani, a member of the Board of Governors, and
by the GBT President, Nagji Sureja. They congratulated the graduates and their parents and urged them to stay involved in
the Temple. The keynote speaker Hon. Kumar Barve, Majority Leader of the Maryland House of delegates, gave an
inspiring speech. He urged the graduates to be proud of their religion and heritage, and to get involved in and be part of the
community at large. The GBT- Tamasa Mallik Memorial Scholarship for this year was awarded to Brenda Shah during the
Graduation ceremony. Kushal Byatnal, and Juhi Hegde were the MCs and did an outstanding job. Srinivasa Raja provided
crisp and clear photos as he does every year. The program ended with lunch provided by Akbar Palace Restaurant.
Deepti & Raj Razdan, Kali Mallik, Pandit Joshiji, Pandit Muraliji, Bhupendra Mehta, Hem Shukla, Meeta Raikar, Bharti
Razdan, Sushma Swani, and Geetha Raja worked hard on the Graduation Pooja Committee to put the program together.
