To the residents of Thompson, I know that The Marianapolis Sewer

To the residents of Thompson,
I know that The Marianapolis Sewer Project continues to be a topic of great discussion and I’d
like to take this opportunity to make the School’s position clear. I remain extremely grateful to
those who came out to the polls in support of the project on April 16 where the residents of
Thompson approved the appropriation of the $1.9 million estimated to complete the project at the
time. Following the successful referendum the project went out to bid. The bid amount came back
approximately $400,000 higher than initially anticipated due to the increased length in directional
boring that will run under I-395 as well as increased construction costs. The USDA has since
offered an additional grant of $500,000 to complete the sewer project.
Marianapolis has a long-standing and very positive relationship with the Town of Thompson. As
a Catholic college preparatory school and a not-for-profit organization we employ over 100
individuals, many of whom are Town residents. We are a destination for students locally,
regionally, nationally and internationally. Throughout the school year, we educate 400 students
from 22 countries and over 200 of them from the tri-state area. The School cares a great deal
about the Town and likewise we hope the School is a point of pride for you, as residents.
As we have stated previously, the new sewer line is imperative to securing the School’s
infrastructure and meeting the needs of its current population. In addition, the sewer line will
have a positive environmental impact and allow the School and the Town to meet strict DEEP
requirements.
As with the first referendum, three points were made, which still hold true:
1. No costs whatsoever will be incurred by the residents of Thompson. Absolutely no new
or increased taxes will result from this project.
2. Environmentally, this project is long overdue and when completed, it will have an
immediate and long-lasting positive impact on our community.
3. There will be no blasting.
We need the support of our residents once again as a vote is necessary to secure this additional
grant, which is critical to this project moving forward. I hope we can count on you to vote “yes”
on August 7 from noon to 8:00p.m. at your regular polling location.
