BOM Info Women of the Bible Quilt Birthdays Gift Providers 2015 Dates Quick Links Website January Minutes Treasurer's Report beginning balance $8867.97; ending balance 8834.20 Brrrrr! The good news is, time to stay indoors and quilt! Also good news, the center part of the raffle quilt is finished! Thanks to all who helped. Also thanks to Pat Coulter who amazed us with her geometric quilt creations at the January meeting. The hand quilting workshop was canceled due to snowy weather, but I hope it can be rescheduled. Please plan to join us for our annual YARD SALE on February 26 and learn to make a fun woven basket with Angie Maietta on the 28th. There are still lots of jobs to be filled for next year's quilt show. We will have stations at the March meeting to find out what's involved that will fit your skills. Also we'll have some kits to take home to make for Quilter's Corner. Our Saturday workshop in March will feature "how to" on several more projects. Make one for you and one for Quilter's Corner. Thank goodness we quilters always have a lot to occupy our hands and minds on these cold snowy days. Have fun and keep warm! Margie February Meeting YARD SALE At our regular monthly meeting, Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM, the guild will be hosting our annual Yard Sale. Please sign up to bring all your "extra" or unwanted fabric, kits, UFO's, patterns, or miscellaneous quilting items for a huge Members Yard Sale. Each participant must set up their table and collect their own sales. After the regular monthly meeting, all members will have an opportunity to SHOP. January Recap The Pat Coulter Hand Quilting Workshop set for January 24th was cancelled due to the weather. A new date will be announced soon. At our monthly meeting Thursday, January 22, Pat showed us her extensive trunk show. Wow, what a treat that was. While many of Pat's quilts were "hand" quilted, they were by no means "tradtional" or old fashioned. Many were "modern" quilting at its best. Pat's quilts were intriguing and beautiful. Many of the quilts were Pat's design, no patterns or instructions for this girl. I hope she inspired us to think out of the box and try new things. Three members brought in their Christmas fabric ornaments for Show and Tell. They were kits purchased from Inspirations Quilt Shop owner, LuAnn Baskin, who demonstrated how to make the ornaments at our November meeting. We would love to see more of the completed ornaments at our next show and tell. Quilt Show 2016 Planning and News Quilt Show 2016 ‐ There's No Place Like Home Well, January has come and gone and home has been a great place to be. Can you believe we are just about a year away from our show? Time sure flies along with the snow. I hope you are continuing to make a quilt or two you will be showing next year. I often hear that the people who come to this show enjoy so much all the lovely quilts we display. And they are! Remember to allow time for finishing and that you will need a sleeve for all but very small wall hangings. The Challenge Quilt specs are on the website. We have a number of people who bought fabric to participate! If you have any questions or would still like to get in on the fun, ask Bonnie Foust. We will have a Theme Quilt Section. Carol Shetler will be heading this up. I know we are a year out, but there is time! Carol will be talking more about this at the next meeting. Up coming date to remember: February 26 ‐ 5:45 Quilt Show meeting. As we continue to Follow the Yellow Brick Road to The Quilt Show 2016, remember: There's No Place Like Home. ‐ Cindy Craddock and Nancy Jacobs Upcoming Events March 26, 2015 ‐ 7:00 PM ‐ Quilt Show Planning The Quilt Show Committee will be having a Round Robin of info and opportunities to prepare for the Quilt Show 2016. If you have simple, easy make patterns or some fabric you are ready to let go of, please bring it along! This will be a wonderful opportunity for all members to find a place to help out with the show. Christmas Quilt 2015 The Christmas quilt for 2015 will be a snowball block pattern with an equal number of lights and Christmas colored blocks. The finished block size is 6". In order to have equal parts light and colored blocks, I am asking each participant to make two 6 inch blocks, one with muslin as the main block and the second a Christmas novelty print or Christmas color. I have purchased the muslin fabric for the light blocks and will have it cut and ready for pick up along with more detailed directions at the guild meetings. Thank you and Good Luck, Lisa Dowdy Block of the Month Program February is the tenth month of our special BOM program. Participation is easy and you can join in at any time! a) Make a 12‐1/2 " block (this is the UNfinished size) ... b) using any block pattern ... c) and any fabric you choose ... d) which you believe is indicative of the current month. February's BOM should represent the month of FEBRUARY. Use your imagination ‐‐ it's entirely up to you! Your choice! Remember to bring your completed BOM blocks to the FEBRUARY meeting and hang them on the BOM wall. You will receive one drawing ticket for each BOM block you hang up (and yes, you can bring in more than one representative block for a month if you'd like). Pidge plans to draw every BOM ticket. Ticket holders ‐ in the order their ticket is drawn ‐ will get to choose one of the current month's blocks hanging on the wall to take home. This special BOM program will run for 12 months. Each month the block pattern and fabric you choose should represent the current month for which it is being made. The block you make MUST measure 12‐1/2". At the end of 12 months, you will have a 12‐month sampler of blocks. Any questions, please contact Pidge Foust at 570‐584‐5043 Women of the Bible Quilt Many have expressed interest in the Women of the Bible BOW quilt that Kay Rhinehart is working on. More information is available from Little Quilts at http://littlequilts.com/newsletter‐signup‐women‐of‐the‐bible (or click the image to the left). Links to two block patterns and a bonus of Little Quilt tips for the 'Women of the Bible' quilt will be published biweekly in twenty E‐mail newsletters from October 2014 through July 2015.
