PASTORAL LEADER’S PONDERINGS…….
Last week Fr. Michael announced that he has been reassigned and will be leaving our parish at the end
of June. Here’s part of the letter we received from Bishop Ricken last week:
“Following consultation with the Priest Personnel Board and in accord with Canons 547,552,517
and 538 of the Code of Canon Law, I am pleased to appoint you Parochial Vicar of St. Francis of
Assisi Parish, Manitowoc, and Priest Celebrant of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Newton,
effective, July 1, 2015.”
Fr. Michael’s last weekend with us will be June 20-21. At each Mass that weekend we will give him a
special blessing and have a small reception for him. Please join us on that Saturday or Sunday as we
show our gratitude to Fr. Michael for his service and presence in our parish these past two years.
I’d also invite you to share your personal thanks and gratitude by writing a card or a note and giving that
to him on June 20-21 or mailing it to him at St. Raphael Church, 830 Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI
54904. At present we do not know who will be replacing Fr. Michael. I will share that news with you as
soon as the Bishop has made that announcement.
SPECIAL COLLECTION
THIS WEEKEND FOR
PEOPLE OF NEPAL
Here’s a part of the letter we received
this week from Bishop Joseph Krutz,
President of the United States
Bishops Conference:
“As you know a 7.8-magnitude earthquake
struck Nepal in the late morning of April 25
just 50 miles northwest of the capital,
Kathmandu, toppling buildings and homes,
causing widespread panic, and claiming more
than 3,900 lives. The devastation and toll on
human life is still becoming clear as rescue
workers access the affected areas and people.
The earthquake struck the Kathmandu valley,
which is densely populated with nearly 2.5
million people. Tens of thousands of families
are sleeping outside in Kathmandu and
require shelter and protection from the cold
and relentless rain, which has worsened
conditions. Aftershocks continue—one
reaching 6.7 magnitude and another 5.4
magnitude—increasing fear, causing further
damage to buildings, and interrupting rescue
operations. Most markets in Kathmandu are
closed. People urgently need basic essentials.
Shelter, blankets, safe water, food, medical
care, hygiene and counseling are priorities.
Hygiene and sanitation are critical to
preventing waterborne diseases.
To this end, I request that you encourage your
pastors to take up a second collection for
our affected brothers and sisters as soon as
possible. These funds will be used to support the
efforts of Catholic Relief Services as we respond
to immediate emergency needs for such
necessities as water, food, shelter and medical
care as well as the long-term needs to rebuild
the communities in the Regions affected after
widespread destruction.
Catholic Relief Services has already begun to
embark on a major emergency response to
this severe disaster and has committed funds
to extended relief efforts. CRS is providing
10,000 families (50,000 people) with
emergency shelter materials, blankets, water
treatment and hygiene kits. Given the scale of
the disaster, the agency expects to expand
relief activities to additional families. CRS is
working with Caritas Nepal to identify the most
pressing needs in the hardest hit districts
between Kathmandu and Pokhara, and will
scale our operations accordingly.
Your help and the help of the Catholic
community of the United States are urgently
needed. Checks from the collection can be sent
to CRS, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD
21297 (“Nepal Earthquake” in memo line).”

Do you have a deep love of your Catholic
faith? Do you enjoy talking about it? Do you
enjoy learning? If so you would be great as

what it means to have a
relationship with Christ.
Faith Formation
Faith Formation classes may be
finished but, that doesn’t mean faith
learning has to end.
You can find so many wonderful things to
do at home with your children to
encourage faith learning in the home in a
fun and exciting way this summer.

You will also find fun day trips in
Wisconsin, such as the Shrine of our Lady
of Good Help in Champion, WI or the
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in
La Crosse, WI, or head south and visit
Holy Hill.
So much to do to enrich your child’s faith
life and your own while you are at it!
