Albuquerque, New Mexico’s

Where Cowboy

Altitude Adventure
Ruidoso is a small town that’s big on
style and outstanding amenities, yet
laid back in atmosphere and attitude.
Families come back time and again for its
moderate temperatures, cool shopping,
arts scene, historic sites and decidedly
Western charm. For snow fun, the Winter
Park Recreation Area offers tubing—day
and night—with a magic-carpet lift and
huge tubes to hold you and your little ones
safely together.
history is as Wild West as it gets. Ruidoso
has a seriously artsy side as well; the
town’s 50 or more art galleries compete
with Santa Fe for choice and variety, while
the world class 514-seat Spencer Theater
is just a short drive from town. And if
your idea of “wild” is getting up close and
personal with Mother Nature, deer, elk
and bear wander our neighborhoods.
After a long day on the slopes, take part
in Ruidoso’s most popular activity: deck
sitting. Put your feet up, kick back, and
enjoy the scenic beauty that surrounds you.
Welcome to the
neighborhood
Ruidoso offers visitors a wide selection
of lodging establishments, many of which
are cabins. Choose from rustic to the fully
outfitted, situated in neighborhoods that
make it easy to walk to town for shopping,
dining and live music. Ruidoso sports
an alpine feel that is both outgoing and
welcoming.

yours to explore
Some ski resorts are manufactured for the masses. This is not one of them. Taos Ski Valley is a rugged, authentic mountain, pioneered by people who put skiing first and all else
second. Kachina Peak stands high above the Sangre de Cristo mountain range at 12,481
feet. From here, skiers and
riders survey some of the finest
terrain in North America – bone
dry powder shots, steep chutes,
big bumps, cornices and glades
– it’s all here. And if heartstopping terrain is a bit outside
your comfort zone, you’ll find
miles of well-manicured slopes
and gradual groomers to carve
up under 300 days of sunshine
a year.

Do you know Taos?
Some people say there are
no more secrets left for the
family trip. They say there’s
nothing left to be discovered,
that all the stashes are gone
and the mysteries revealed.
They say that powder days
have been reduced to a mere
hour, and the only way to
chase first tracks is to fight
the crowd. Well, they don’t
know Taos.

friendly people, fun in the snow, good
food, and plenty of entertainment.
Red River has been known as the “Ski
Town of the Southwest” for decades,
but what makes this place so unique is
not the “ski” as much as it is the “town.”
Nestled right up against the Red River Ski
Area is a place so special that skiers and
snowboarders continue to come back year
after year, generation after generation.
Why? There are a number of reasons, but
primarily because Red River is simple.
Main Street in the
Mountains
With two chairlifts that leave from the
center of town, you’ll find 75% of the
cabins, condos, and lodges are within
walking distance of the ski area. No
shuttle necessary. The less time you
spend trying to find a parking space, the
more time you’ll spend on the mountain
(but just in case your feet get tired, Red
River offers a free trolley to get you from
point A to point B). Just imagine pulling in
to Red River after a long car trip and never
having to get back in the car until it’s time
to leave. Folks from Red River simply put
it, “Park & ski, park & ride, park & play.”
Red River caters to a different kind
of outdoor enthusiast, one who puts
more emphasis on the total vacation
experience. If you want to spend all
day on the mountain tackling the most
difficult terrain of your life, Red River
probably isn’t for you. But if you want to
get the most out of your winter vacation
