Prosperity Officer (Ref. IRLPO52) Introduction The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Prosperity Officer. This position is an excellent opportunity to work strategically at the heart of a high profile organisation during a period of unprecedented, positive and expanding cooperation between the UK and Ireland. The successful applicant will play a central role in helping to identify and deliver UK policy objectives at a key time for the relationship, as we prepare for the next Prime Ministerial Summit in March 2015. You will work to the Economic Secretary in the Politics, Economics & Communications Team, but will interact closely with all of the Embassy teams, especially UK Trade and Investment. Your role will involve identifying and prioritising opportunities in the UK-Ireland relationship that have the greatest potential to contribute positively to the UK’s prosperity agenda. To succeed, you will need to be able to establish a wide range of contacts across the Irish business community, and within the two governments. Strategic planning will be essential, as will an ability to communicate proposals to senior staff and to a range of stakeholders in Ireland. You’ll need to be a real self-starter - resilient and creative – but also have the ability to absorb and understand the detail of sometimes complex and fast moving economics dossiers. Main Duties / Responsibilities Plan and run campaigns on UK Government priority objectives, including organising events Work with the Embassy’s Strategic Communications Adviser to maximise exposure to and understanding of UK Government positions on economic and financial issues amongst priority audiences in Ireland Using a wide range of contacts, work with the Economic Secretary and UKTI to identify new opportunities to enhance UK-Ireland bi-lateral co-operation in the fields of business and economics. Develop proposals to take these forward, and deliver on these to tight timescales Support the Economic Secretary in researching and reporting on developments in the Irish economy. Required Experience & Skills We are looking for a motivated prosperity officer to take forward new opportunities to enhance UK-Ireland bilateral co-operation in the fields of business and economics. Essential: Experience of working with a wide network of contacts. Strong lobbying and influencing skills High level of economic literacy Strong interpersonal, team working and customer focus skills Familiarity with project management Ability to think strategically and creatively Ability to grasp complex issues quickly and communicate these simply and effectively Adaptability and resilience under pressure, including when juggling multiple competing priorities Fluent written and spoken English Good IT skills, including experience of Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. Terms and Conditions This is a full-time position, initially on a one year fixed-term contract, 41 hours gross per week, with the possibility of renewal beyond this term. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ireland is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Irish employment law. The annual salary for this position is €35,028 gross, B3/L level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.
