Students in grades 3 – 8 have been working with the play’s directors and vocal coach for many weeks to
rehearse their lines. Participants are working on many aspects of musical theater performance, including
character development, singing, and stage blocking. Students are also participating in designing and
crafting scenery, props, and costumes. Any community volunteers wishing to help out with this theatre
production, please contact the school.
Gr 4, 5 & 6 After Hours Math & English
SCDSB is offering an After School Numeracy
Support Program designed to address the learning
needs of students in grades 4, 5 and 6 who would
benefit from extra help to reinforce and strengthen
their numeracy skills. Classroom teachers have
suggested students’ names that they feel would
benefit from this program and letters were sent
home to parents. If you as a parent are interested in
your child participating in this program and did not
receive a letter of recommendation, please contact
the office. The program will run on Mondays and
Wednesdays beginning March 23rd from 2:50 –
4:20 pm. Please note, we have had to change the
days from Tues/Thur to Mon/Wed. Girls on the
Run program was conflicting.

NEIGHBOURS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are noticing a lot of dog droppings on our school yard. If
you notice people during the evenings &/or weekends walking
their dogs and not cleaning up the droppings, please nicely ask
them to refrain from leaving these unwanted “gifts” on the
school yard or call the school if you are able to give us a name
to call. No dogs (exception – Service Dogs) are allowed on
our school property during the school day.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Welcome to a Wonderful Journey of Learning!
To be eligible for registration into Junior
Kindergarten, your child must be four years of age
by December 31, 2015 (born in 2011).
Kindergarten registration for September 2015 began
on January 26, 2015. As of January, you may call
or drop into Alliston Union PS to complete the
necessary forms. No appointments are necessary.
We will require proof of your child’s birth date (one
of the following will be required: original Canadian
birth certificate, Certificate of Canadian
Citizenship, Canadian Passport, Permanent Resident
Card/Record of Landing, or Statement of Live Birth
- long version), proof of your child's address and
his/her record of immunization.
Families new to Canada within the last 4 years
MUST contact our "Newcomer Welcome Centre" at
705-725-8360, ext. 310 to arrange completion of the
necessary registration papers.
Kdg registration package must be returned to the
school in order to be invited to the “Welcome to
Kdg” information session on May 14th from 3:30 –
5:00pm
This is a reminder to students and parents that we are a
scent free environment as there are a number of
individuals that have respiratory and allergic reactions
to strong perfumes and colognes. We wish to minimize
the reactions these individuals experience by not
wearing perfumes and colognes to schools.

Student logins have been created thereby allowing
your child to go on-line at www.raz-kids.com. RazKids helps students improve their reading skills.
Here is how to access the website and your child’s
reading assignment from any computer connected to
the Internet:
1. Go to http://www.raz-kids.com/ from your
Internet browser and click the Student Login tab.
2. Type in the assigned teacher username and click
the green GO arrow.
3. Find your child’s name on the chart and click on
the button.
4. Click on their assigned password icon and click
the green GO arrow.
4. The books assigned to your child will appear on
his or her personal assignment page.
Your child should choose to listen, read, and then
take a quiz by clicking on the symbols below each
book. We encourage the students to follow some
steps when working with a book. He or she should:
(1) listen to the book (2) read the book, and then (3)
take the quiz
The great thing is, if you have internet access, it can
be used anytime, anywhere.

We wish to thank the members of the Alliston Alliance
Church who have donated $250.00 to our Eat Well to
Excel program. The school is allotted a specific
amount of money from the Government for this
program, but it is never enough for the school year.
Kind donations such as this are very welcomed and
appreciated.

WINTER DRESS
Please remind students to dress warmly for cold
winter weather. Sometimes the temperature in the
morning has been quite comfortable and then has
dropped considerably throughout the day. Students
need to be prepared for very cold, wintry weather
with extra mitts, socks, gloves, hats, snow pants,
boots and warm coats with secure closures. Parents,
please remind students of the importance of wearing
proper winter clothing outside for fitness breaks.
STUDENT TARDINESS
A number of students are continuing to arrive late in
the morning for the start of school. A number of
these students are missing the lesson in literacy or
numeracy and are then left to catch up on their own.
This loss of learning will be reflected in their level
of academic achievement and satisfaction with
school. For those families that this effects please
ensure that your child(ren) get enough sleep each
night, that they prepare their lunches and pack their
school bags the night before and consistently ensure
your child(ren) wake up with a enough preparation
and travel time to get to school on time. We will be
assigning a detention to those students who are late
two times in a week that do not have a good reason
for being late. We may also issue letters and make
referrals to our attendance counsellor in chronic
situations. Please help us help your children.
Your Child’s Immunization Record!
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is
required by law to keep an up to date immunization
record on file for every student who attends
elementary or secondary school in Simcoe County
and the District of Muskoka. Unfortunately the
health unit does not receive immunization
information directly from doctor’s offices, therefore
SAVE THE DATE!
May 20th is our official GRAND
OPENING ceremony! Further information
will follow in the weeks to come.
parents need to contact the health unit each time
students receive a caccine from their health care
profider to update their record. If a student’s
immunization record on file with the health unit is
not up to date, the health unit will mail a notice
requesting immunization information or proof of a
valid exemption. If the information requested is not
provided, the student may be suspended from
school. If a student is due for immunizations, an
appointment can be made with their health care
provider or at a health unit immunization clinic by
contacting Your Health Connection at 705-7217520 or 1-877-721-7520. Parents can now provide
updated immunization information to the health unit

Ontario Early Years Centre
Are you home with little people and looking for
something fun to do? Drop by the Ontario Early
Years Centre in Alliston! The OEYC is a free
service for all adults with children 0 to 6 years of
age. Adults and children participate in activities
together. Children have the opportunity to play
with other children and participate in many different
types of programs and activities, which promote
early learning and school readiness, and they are
FUN for children and adults alike.

subdivisions? Calling all adults home with preschool children! Marie from the Ontario Early
Years Centre is facilitating an early learning
