News From Ecker Hill
Traci Evans, Principal
John Hall, Assistant Principal
Earlier in February I had the great opportunity to travel with Dr. Conley to the ASCD (Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development) Leadership Forum at their headquarters in Washington DC.
ASCD is a global leader in developing and delivering innovative educational programs and services. Eight
other districts from around the country were invited to participate as well. This was a small group and we
spent one day with Doug Fisher and Nancy Frey discussing effective practices. Fisher and Frey are highly
acclaimed researchers and professors in San Diego, CA. The following day was spent networking with the
eight other districts. This forum reaffirmed that although there are always areas any school needs to
improve upon, we are on the right path in doing what is best for all our students. I feel fortunate to work
with your children everyday and to interact with you as well.

HONOR ROLL
Thank you PTO for
providing treats for our
honor roll students. To be
on honor roll a student
must have a GPA of 3.5 or
above.
Based in part on your feedback, we are adjusting our format for
spring conferences. A portion of each night will be by appointment
and the other portion will be open format, as we have done in the
past. Please keep in mind that conferences are a time to touch
base with your student’s teachers. Because of time constraints this
is not a time for detailed or long discussions. Appointments are
scheduled. Please visit the EHMS website for information about
scheduling, http://ehms.pcschools.us Appointment scheduling will
be available March 23 through 30. You will need your student’s
school ID number and birthday to access the site. Please contact
the front office with any questions. During scheduled appointments
teachers will be in their individual classrooms. During the ‘open
format’ time teachers will be in the following locations:

Math Help Now Available
Thanks to the generous support of a community member, we are able to offer
specific math help in our after school homework club. A number of community
members were organized to volunteer in homework club as math tutors. They are
here Monday-Thursday from 3:45pm-4:45pm in the library. This is a great time for
your student to receive help with math. If your student is bus eligible there is busing
available to take them home. Come take advantage of this great opportunity.
Battle of the Books
The next round of voting for Battle of the Books will happen on March 2. Round 2 matchups are as follows:
o The Giver by Lois Lowry vs. Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
o When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead vs. Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25 by
Richard Paul Evans
We can’t wait to see who moves on to the finals.
Immunization Changes
6th Grade Parents Please Read
A new law has been put into place regarding immunizations. Beginning
next school year 2015-2016 there are new requirements for incoming 7th
graders. According to the Utah Department of Health:
“Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, in order to attend (7th) grade,
a student in addition to existing requirements must have proof of
receiving one dose of Meningococcal vaccine and two doses of Varicella
(chicken pox) or previous history of disease.”
The complete list of immunization requirements can be found on the
Ecker Hill webpage. Please see the School Nurse link under the Students
tab.

College Financial Planning by Morgan
Stanley
Wednesday, March 18th
7-8:30pm, PCHS Lecture Hall
This presentation, by Mike Walsh and Tim Tank of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, is a great starting point for parents and students who have unanswered questions about the costs and issues associated with planning for college. It dispels common myths about sources of funds, reviews unique education planning strategies, and discusses how college financial planning fits into your comprehensive financial planning strategy. It is intended for parents and grandparents who are interested in learning how the admission process and financial planning process are connected, which may lower the cost of attendance for your student.
