It has been a busy semester with curricular and extra-curricular activities, and we are looking forward to a successful and rewarding semester two with our students. Report cards were distributed during the advisory period on Monday, February 1st. If you require additional information regarding report cards, please contact the school. February brings our annual Hugh Morrell Border Classic Basketball tournament on February 5th and 6th. Be sure to stop by and cheer on our Barons! LCHS will also be supporting anti-bullying day on February 24th. Encourage your son or daughter to wear pink that day to make a statement against bullying. Absences not excused within 3 school days will remain as unexcused. A signed note should be sent if a telephone is not available. Reasons provided by the parent will be recorded and will be considered by the administration if and when a student’s attendance is under review. Students who live on their own must make arrangements with administration for reporting excused absences. Buff Baronettes The LCHS school website address is http://lchs.lpsd.ca LCHS 2016 Curling Season Jim Smith Memorial ~ Vermilion ~ February 5-6 Buff Baronettes is an all-girls work-out group. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, at noon, in the fitness center. This is a great opportunity for all LCHS ladies to stay fit while having fun! Please see Mrs. Woytiuk or Mrs. Topott for more information. January was a busy month for LCHS band students, as activities picked right back up after Christmas! On January 8-10th, Jazz student Jade Shivak attended the University of Saskatchewan High School Select Jazz Weekend. Jade had the opportunity to learn from jazz professionals Dean McNeil and jazz pianist Chad Linsley from Montreal, as well as playing with students from all over northern Saskatchewan. Congratulations Jade on representing LCHS during this weekend! Jazz 10/20/30 students attended the University of Saskatchewan Department of Music Concert in North Battleford on January 15th. The first half of the concert was the Department’s Collage Concert, in which students performed selections one after another until the final applause at the end of the concert. The U of S Jazz Ensemble performed in the second half of the concert. Congratulations to the Garage Band 10 students for an excellent final performance on Wednesday, January 20th. Students in the class included Craig Baynton, Jaimen Bendixen, Niki Crockett, Mackenzie Hassall, Hailey Kruchkowski, Brooklyn McCullough, Davyn Upshall, Brianna Scheuerman, Shanelle Wolgien, Zoe Ouellet, and Danielle Benard. After finals, three Band students participated in the University of Saskatchewan High School Select Weekend on January 29-31st. LCHS students participating included Alex McDonald, Sam Scribante, and Josh Sandercock. The students rehearsed with their selected bands and conductors Dr. Darrin Oehlerking and Dr. Glen Gillis, and performed a final concert on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to these students for their hard work and preparation for this weekend! Upcoming Events: LCHS musical auditions (first week in February) Jazz Ensemble Trip to Calgary (March 1st and 2nd) Senior Boys Basketball The month of January saw the Sr. Boy's Basketball team return to action after the Christmas break. The Barons travelled to Sherwood Park and competed in the Bev Facey Falcon Invitational Tournament. The Boys won their opening game over Archbishop Jordan from Sherwood Park and then dropped a couple of close contests, losing to the host Falcons 85 -81 and then to the #1 ranked AAA Strathcona Christian 76-68. The losses snapped the Barons impressive season long 12 game win streak. The Purple and Gold followed up the Facey Tournament with a home and home set against the Vikings from North Battleford Comp. The two game series saw both teams win on the home schools court. The Vikings won the opener 81-69 at LCHS and then the Barons rebounded two nights later winning at NBCHS 76-44. The Boys just wrapped up a solid week of practice and will now shut down for a week to focus on semester I Final Exams. The team returns to action on January 29 & 30 when they travel down the Yellowhead to North Battleford to compete in the Crusader Classic Tournament hosted by John Paul II Collegiate. Mr. Lumbard The Alberta High School Mathematics Competition is an annual mathematic competition for high school students in Alberta. It is an 80 minute paper, consisting of 16 multiple-choice questions. Six students from LCHS participated in the competition. The students were: Meagan Lee Ramesh Mahdavifar Samuel Scribante Gillian Guevarra Jade Shivak Sukhman Kaur Congratulations on your dedication to mathematics.
