New Member Breakfast

2005 Board Positions
We are going to have several Board positions open next year and we’re looking for a
few good people who want to get more involved and help out the Club. As you may
be aware, the Board has term limits of two
years in any one position, and several of your
current Board members are going to be
“termed out” at the end of the year, including myself. I will, however, continue on the
Board as your Past President, and quite honestly, I’m thankful for that. I’ve had a lot of
fun serving the Club these past two years
and I’ve met a lot of great people in the process.
As in the past, I continue to believe that
the future of our Club rests with its newer
members and I would encourage anyone who
thinks they might have an interest in helping the Club to give me a call. The Board
meets monthly for a couple of hours to discuss the activities, policies, finances and other
business that comes up. Of the ten positions
on the Board, five of them were filled with
relatively new members last year. The result,
from my perspective, has been a lot of fresh
energy and a number of new ideas on how
to make the Club better and get more people involved. So, if you would like to find
out more about what help we’re going to be
needing next year, please contact myself or
any Board member and we’ll be glad to talk
with you about it. And remember, anyone in
the Club is welcome to come to a Board
meeting and check things out. We meet the
third Wednesday of every month at RPM
Motorsports.
Holiday Party Back On Track
After several months of thinking that we may
not have a Holiday Party this year, Tom &
Tambra Kroetz and Mike & Emily Willis
have stepped up and volunteered to head up
the planning committee. This year’s party
will again be held at the Sutter Club and is
scheduled for Friday, December 3. Last year’s
event was great and I’m sure this year will
be even better. Our organizers would welcome the help of other Club members in
putting the details together for this event,
so give them a call and join in the fun.

New member Chair Rick Weidner held the
group’s second breakfast gathering at Andiamo Restaurant in July and participation was
up about 300% from the first meeting. What
amazed me was the gathering of Porsches
in the parking lot as I drove up: about twenty cars all nicely lined up from early 356s to
the latest 911s. While we call this a “new
member breakfast,” all Club members are
welcome, and I hope that as the months go
by more of you will come out and join us.
It’s a casual gathering with no real agenda—
just great people and great cars.
September – Good Porsche Driving
We’ve got a lot of activities going on in September: tours, our annual Charity Auction,
Carrera de Sierra Rally, and don’t forget our
Dinner Meeting at Brookside Grill on
Thursday, September 9. It’s a great time in
the Sacramento Valley Region to be driving
your Porsche.

Come one, come all to the Charity Auction. Bring your Porsche-related items (or
any other items) to be auctioned off for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. We will sway to the beat
of Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, providing the auditory libations for
our afternoon’s soirée. For those of you who don’t know the meaning of soirée, it’s
high class Cajun for par-tay!
SVR will provide beverages (beer and sodas compliments of CRAB 31) and some
hors d'oeuvres. You, however, must bring yourselves, main meals, and chairs or
blankets to sit on. Oh—and most of all—your money purses for the fabulous items
that will be auctioned off by our erstwhile “auctioneers extraordinaire.”
We will also be “christening” our new deck addition, so make sure that you bring a
bottle of champagne to toast this event. If’n you don’t want to imbibe, it’s okay just
to leave the bottle to be uncorked at a later time!
The partyin' begins at 11:00 am—dat’s in the morning—and continues until all is
auctioned off. The first item goes up for sale at noon-thirty.

30 Years Ago (September 1974)
This month, Kirk Bradford’s Photo Contest reached big-time status with the winning Black & White photo by Merle Dodd
being featured on the September Drifter’s
cover. As Kirk described it, “Merle’s winning entry was an experiment with two black
and white exposures placed together. The
result is an appealing composition of a Porsche alloy wheel dominating and serving as
a frame for the second exposure of a 914
seen ‘through’ the center hole of the wheel.”
Also in the September Drifter, Secretary
Kaylaine Robinson reported the SVR Board
initiated a petition to place the name of
Hank Malter (outgoing Zone 7 Representative) on the ballot for PCA National Treasurer in addition to “favorite person of the
National Nominations Committee.” (As it
turned out, Malter made the ballot, then won
the election as Treasurer, and several years
later, he was elected National President.) The
SVR Board also voted to nominate Dwight
Mitchell (then from Golden Gate Region)
to replace Malter as Zone 7 Representative.
Stan Breyfogle and J. Toney chaired the
Carrera de Sierra X, September 8-9. The
event included a two-day rally for 36 cars to
Yosemite Park, and an overnight stay and
outdoor barbecue at Camp Curry. The group
returned to Micke Grove in Stockton for
awards and early dinner.
SVR and Sierra Nevada Region hosted
the final 1984 two-day Zone 7 Autocross
weekend, September 15-16 at Splinter City.
Larry Wilson was chair for SVR’s event. The
weekend was well-attended, partly because
of Saturday-night’s poolside spaghetti feed
at the home of Dwight & Linda Mitchell.
Eighty-three people converged on the
Mitchells’ home, and, with 46 people in the
spa, were able to break the previous year’s
spa-stuffing record of 40 people. Also that
evening, after evening gown and personality
judging by the crowd, Rich McGlumphy lost
to Brian Perry of Redwood Region in his
bid to become SVR’s first Miss Zone 7 of
1984. What a drag! SVR autocrossers with
a first-place finish during the weekend were
Ray Clements, Stan Breyfogle, Larry Wilson, Dwight Mitchell, Rich McGlumphy,
Sara Clements, Pat Wilson, Jill Mitchell,
and Linda Mitchell.
Don Harley arranged for the September 18 tech session at Paradyme Electronics, which covered car audio basics plus some
high-tech innovations and new audio systems designed especially for Porsche cars.
The September 8 SVR Golf Day at the Dry
Creek Ranch Golf Course and Dinner
Meeting at the Golden Acorn Restaurant
was chaired by Fred Siegner.
The SVR Charity Auction, September
18, was chaired by Bill & Tori Keegan and
held at the home of Tom & Brenda Solter.
Over $2,000 was raised by SVR members
bidding on auction items. Family House, a
temporary housing facility for families of
children undergoing cancer treatment at the
University of California Medical Center, received the proceeds. Kirk Bradford and Larry
Wilson were auctioneers. Other auction
workers included George Morley, Barbara
Schumacher, Greg Peart, Rik Larson, and
Cora & Kent Brandon.

Cost:
RV camping: electric & water $25/night
Tent camping: $22/night
Pets: first pet free, all others $1.00 per day
All camping spaces accommodate 4 people. Extra charges apply for
additional people, extra vehicles and/or extra tents.
Other items to bring: extra camp chairs, water toys, fishing gear, boats,
other miscellaneous camping needs.

Welcome new members and transfers! SVR
now has 607 regular members and 16 dual
members.
Once again, we have a caveat on the
numbers. National is still working on their
membership files. In addition, I have just
received a National report showing that 49
members are in arrears on their dues. We
don’t delete late payers as soon as National
does, but if any of you out there need to pay
up, please do so; it makes record keeping a
lot easier.
Please remember to keep your records
updated at both the National and the SVR
level. National will not allow me to update
their individual records, and it is very difficult to keep the local records updated based
on the changes National provides because
of the format used.

attended the Saturday morning G24 (new
member) breakfast on July 24. They drove
all the way from Mountain Ranch to be

Stumpy Meadows Tour
2004

The weather for the tour couldn’t have been
nicer. It was clear and mild and about 70
degrees. We met at 9:00 am at Bella Brew
and departed for the foothills at 9:30 with
19 cars, mostly Porsches with a couple of
“ferrin” brands thrown in. The group worked
its way up to Lotus by the American River
and had a brief stop and stretch. From Lotus we headed up Marshall Grade via an old
SCCA hill climb road that was much too
short, but tight and fun. The next stop was
Georgetown, where we got to mingle and
poke around. Also present were about 3040 Harley riders, who as it turned out, were
making their way to Stumpy Meadows as
well. I had visions of a “rumble” when it came
time to claim picnic tables. As it turned out,
they beat us to the parking lot at Stumpy,
but were content to stay in with their bikes
and weren’t interested in picnicking. We all
laid out our spreads and had a scenic lunch

We finally cleaned up about 1:00 pm and
headed for the last stop of the day at Ice
House. This is a great stretch of road with a
combination of some tight and some wide
sweeping turns. The pavement is in excellent condition and a brisk pace was hopefully enjoyed by all. Up to this point we had
all stayed in one group; however there was
an enterprising group who decided to venture off on their own and explore some
campgrounds. They caught up to us a few
minutes later and everyone arrived safe &
sound at the resort where our Harley buddies were waiting for us. The group had some
refreshments and the tour ended at this
point. Most headed back to Sacramento via
Highway 50 about 2:30-3:00 o’clock, while
a couple of cars took alternate routes home.
Thanks to all who came. Jan and I hope
you enjoyed the driving, scenery and people.

Carrera de Sierra XXVII
The 27th running of this two-day rally (or
you can do the tour if you like) is coming up
really quickly. We are still accepting entries
(right up to the day of the event). But you
need to make your reservations soon for the
overnight stay in Truckee for the special rate
of $60. This rate is only good until September 6. The flyer on page 16 has all the details. We have had a slight change in tourmasters. This year it will be Jeff & Kim Kinder taking over for Richard Swenson & Judy
Hanna. Jeff has been involved with the
“tourist” side of this event in the past, and
will provide you with some great roads. There
is also a walking rally on Saturday when everyone arrives. This “GOOSE” event gives
you a chance to test out your ability to keep
time on your own two feet. Remember the
weekend is September 18-19. The start and
finish will be in Loomis. Ron & Sally Boeck will host the Sunday BBQ finish with a
whole host of folks from SVR to assist. Don’t
miss this great event.

The last two events of the 2004 Zone 7 Rally
season will be hosted by Golden Gate Region. The fourth running of Coyote Run on
October 2 will be the typical time and distance format with Larry Adams as the rallymaster. You can catch all the particulars

be the Moonlight Monte Carlo rally on Saturday, October 9 (afternoon and evening).

Channel 914, where are you? I bought new
Talkabouts because the one I had didn’t
work, and then no one would talk to me.
Armed with maps and written directions
(in hopes of not losing anyone this time), a
large group of Porsches, one Mercedes, and
a VW something-or-other left the Town
Center in El Dorado Hills at 8:15 am on
the last Saturday morning in July. Main
destination: Lacey’s Arabian Horse Ranch.
Zone 7 entrants took three of the four Parade Rally classes in Fort Worth this year.
Jessica & J. Toney took top honors in the
Equipped class (score of 31 hundredths, or
about 19 seconds) for the 5-leg rally. Al
Armellini & Rik Larson took first in the
Navigational class (and fourth overall). Bud
& Mary Ann Behrens took first in the new
Unequipped Plus class with a score of 143.

missed the turn and moseyed up Marshall
Road, where we joined forces and proceeded to Lacey’s.

in the pasture, but they were outnumbered
by humans and decided not to come too

PCA had another great Parade in 2004, this
year in Forth Worth, Texas. Yes, it was a little warm and a little humid, but there was
great Porsche camaraderie, and fun competition. Zone 7 certainly did admirably, taking 3 of 4 class wins (plus overall) in the
Rally, plus overall men’s and women’s TTOD
in the Autocross, as well as class wins in the
tech quiz. Yes, we are a competitive bunch,
and have been for some time. Certainly many
of our members have distinguished themselves through the Zone and at the National level, through competition and service to
the Club, as well as other noteworthy
achievements.
In January 2003, the Zone 7 Presidents
approved a new award to recognize those
members of PCA Zone 7 who have made a
significant, lasting contribution to PCA and/
or the Porsche community at large, through
active participation in social, technical, or
competitive events. This special award is
known as the "Zone 7 Wall of Fame." It is
intended to honor those individuals
showing a long-time passion towards
the marque, displaying that passion and
distinguishing themselves in some visible manner for a significant time. Although PCA and Zone 7 membership
is a requirement of this award, the activities demonstrated by the recipients
can be outside of PCA (racing in recognized competition series, etc.). The
inaugural class in January 2004 included 17 noteworthy inductees, with
achievements ranging from road racing fame
to longtime PCA service at the national and
zone levels. This award is our way of recognizing PCA members who have distinguished themselves in the "outside world,"
i.e. beyond the boundaries of one's own Region. Recipients also should have demonstrated recognition and appreciation for PCA
and its fundamental philosophy: "It's not just
the cars; it's the people."
The Wall of Fame consists of a perpetual plaque maintained by the Zone Representative as well as an appropriate personalized plaque bearing the Zone 7 logo for each
honoree.
Consideration for membership on “The
Wall” is simple; it requires nomination from
a Zone 7 member in good standing. Nominations do not need to come from a Region
President. You can nominate someone from
within any Region of Zone 7, not just your
“home” Region. Nominations must be forwarded to the Zone 7 Representative no later
than October 1, 2004, and should include
the nominee’s name and a brief history
chronicling his or her involvement in Zone
7 or member Regions, as well as his/her contributions to PCA and the Porsche community at large. The Region Presidents will consider all nominations. Inductees will be announced and presented at the annual awards
banquet in January 2005. The awards ceremony at the January 2004 Banquet was very
special indeed.
Please consider if you know someone
worthy of this award’s recognition, and let
me or your Region President know of your
interest in nominating those individuals.

We have been told that several cars from Redwood Region will

What’s In a Name?
I know, I know, I said his name was
“Butzi,” but you see the thing is … We
went down to Monterey for the Road &
Track Sports Car Invitational, and while
staying in Buzz’s aunt’s “guest house” …
Let me explain this guest house. It is
perched on a hillside overlooking the
Monterey Bay, has a kitchen, living area,
bath with an open marble tile doubleheaded shower, plasma TV & all the gizmos that go with that, and—the best
part—close enough to Leguna Seca to hear
the roar of racing engines when you arise
in the morning! Now the part about the
Plasma TV … She had a copy of Finding
Nemo, and we loved the movie. I thought,
“you know, Nemo looks like my car (after
the Signal Orange paint job, of course);
he is (will be) orange, has a sloped nose
and big cute eyes. Nemo! That’s his name.”
Okay, on to our next project…
Nemo spent several days at Frank’s Automotive, and it was a miraculous recovery! He is now running on all of his flat
sixes. The drive home was an interesting
one. I had not driven Nemo that many
times prior to his stay at Frank’s. Buzz
drove me down to pick him up, and I, of
course, had to drive him home. Frankly, I
was a little nervous. But I buckled up my
filthy, stiff, barely-able-to-buckle seat belts
(wishing I had worn black) with a huge
grin on my face, and started him up. It
was great to hear him go. Finding the gears
was a bit tough at first. I wasn’t used to 1st
being lower left, and 2nd (as I later learned)
was straight up from there. Did I mention
that I had no license plates, no rear view
mirror and no air conditioning on a hot
day during 5 pm traffic? Buzz followed
closely, hoping we didn’t come across any
of Sacramento’s finest! We did encounter
a traffic accident on Fair Oaks Blvd. Yikes,
a police car driving up beside me (nearly
on the sidewalk)! Whew, he was going to
the accident. I had a bit of a problem getting into gear from a stop. I couldn’t find
1st gear, cars started honking, I was sweating … ahhhhh, I found the only gear I
could, 4th, and took off … chug chug chug
… until he gained enough power to get

going. Get me home, Nemo!
We finally got Nemo registered and I
ordered personalized plates: OEL PLZ. I
figured it was appropriate for the oil cooling and the consumption. The seller
thought we should get MRDRIPY! We
liked OEL PLZ better!
So Many Projects!
I decided to make a list of projects to do
on Nemo. First (for safety): new retractable seat belts. Second: repaint the Fuchs
wheels. Someone painted them red! The
list is long, so I’ll start with these two “little” projects. Oh, I promptly ordered 101
Projects for Your Porsche 911 by Wayne
Dempsey from Pelican Parts (http:/
/www.pelicanparts.com/). What a great
book. It rates each project’s difficulty by
showing how many “little mechanics” it
takes to do them. They rate from 1 to 5, 5
being “go get a pro”! I figure anything up
to two we can handle. Buzz and me, two
little mechanics!
PEP Products was recommended for
seat belts by a member of the 911T Registry (http:/ /www.911t.org/, where I graduated quickly from a Junior member—
fewer than 40 posts—to a Member—more
than 40 posts—in two shorts months!).
The belts arrived in a timely manner, and
I couldn’t wait to get started. The existing
belts were not a pretty sight. I love directions, don’t you? Step 1, Step 2, Step 3,
Step 4, you’re done! “Look, Honey,” I told
Buzz, “four easy steps!” Yeah, right! To be
honest, it was four steps for the inertia reels
and three steps for the shoulder anchors.
That makes seven, and there are two sides
… Okay, okay, 14 easy steps!
First, we located the inertia reel
mounting cap bolts just where PEP said
they would be and unscrewed them. We
had to punch an awl through to the inside
of the rear seat side walls. Boy did I hate
that. Poking holes in my baby! The hardest part of this installation was getting the
washer and spacer lined up to insert the
bolt and get it threaded properly. After
Buzz tried for a while, I took over and I
think smaller hands can maneuver better.
I managed to get all the components together and Buzz tightened it all with the
torque wrench to 45 lbs. Connecting the
shoulder anchor was pretty easy. That was
just a matter of cutting (ouch, I hate that)
the old Porsche anchor cover off and unbolting it and putting the new one on. It
came with replacement D-ring covers. For
the receiver and return lap belt anchors we
squished down the seat (didn’t have to go
too far; they are already a little flat!). We
used a wrench to undo the bolts and put
the new pieces in. They look and work
great! Side one took about 3 hours, but
we did side two in one! Progress!

Now, for the wheel refinishing: I
scoured several tech sites and read lots of
posts on how people refinished their
wheels. One guy on Pelican Parts Tech Forum (http:/ /forums.pelicanparts.com/)
had a great pictorial. Getting the first
wheel off was a little tricky. We didn’t have

a proper jack for the car (we have since
purchased a jack pad). I looked in my 101
Projects book, and it showed that you could
safely jack on the front torsion bar mounting points. It worked great and we put a
jack stand underneath it.
I made a mini spray booth on the side
yard with large cardboard boxes blocking
the sides. (Well, I guess you really couldn’t
call it a “booth” … a spray compartment,
maybe.) I put the tire on top of two cinder blocks. (We have plenty; our house is
made of them—not that we have holes in
our house … just a few extra blocks lying
around.) I used Aircraft Remover to get
the red paint off. I thought it was going to
bubble and crackle, but it bubbled and
melted! Scraping didn’t work too well so I
took paper towels and wiped it off, of
course, wearing gloves. It took three applications, waiting about 30 minutes each
time, before I got all the red off the wheel.
I used mineral spirits to remove any residue and then washed it with water. I used
an orbital sander with 220 grit, then 320
grit to buff the spokes and rims. Then I
applied a metal polish to every part that
wasn’t being painted. Now came time to
mask! The guy from the Pelican Tech Fo-
rum had used electrical tape to do the
spokes. It worked great. You have to be
very careful to make all the edges even,
and getting the inside curves was a challenge. I masked off the holes from behind
the wheel with blue painter’s tape, and I
was ready to prime. I used Rustoleum auto
primer and applied two coats, letting it dry
for 10-15 minutes in between. Then it
came time for paint. I again used Rustoleum Black Satin paint, applying three
light coats and letting it dry in between.

This sounds like it didn’t take much
time, but the first wheel was during evenings after work. Primer one night, paint
another. The other three wheels I did over
a three-day weekend. Now, the unveiling
… I felt like a plastic surgeon removing
bandages! I was so happy with the outcome, and ready for round two! When I
got to the rear wheels, I wanted to take
both off so I could work on them side by
side. I’m slightly impatient. Again, where
to jack? The book says the sump is safe.
Made us a bit nervous, but we used a 4"x4"
piece of wood to distribute the weight, and
ya know, it worked great, again. We have
two jack stands so up-up went Nemo’s …
rear end! Off came the two wheels, and to
work I went. I’m very pleased with the way
my wheels turned out; all for about $26.00
in paint, sandpaper and odds & ends. The
rims have some road rash, etc., and someday I do want to have them done at Al
Reed’s in Anaheim, but for now, I am quite

Next we made a visit to the Golden
Gecko Nursery where those of us with deer
problems found their plants to be labeled
“deer resistant” as well as nice looking. Trey,
the Nursery’s co-owner, gave us a brief
background on their new facility, and I noticed several cars being loaded with plants
… not to mention a trip or two planned for
next weekend when the “other” vehicle will
be driven. Finally, we headed back down
the road and on toward the Venezio Winery for a bit of tasting and some down time
on the shaded porch.

As the summer begins to wind down, your
Porsche Club enters the busiest month of the
year. In September every type of activity the
Club offers takes place, including some time
honored traditional events like the Charity
Auction and Carrera de Sierra, a combination rally and tour.
Our special thanks go to Dwight & Linda Mitchell, 39-year members of PCA, who
put on our August dinner meeting at the Riva
Bar and Oven with the assistance of Mike &
Emily Willis. The Mitchells moved to Florida this past year, but were generous enough
to host their Porsche Club friends one more
time. Thanks Dwight & Linda, another job
well done.
This month’s dinner meeting, September 9, is brought to us by Andy & Dianna
Leight at a great little place in Old Auburn,
Brookside Grill & Coffee House. The Club
has the restaurant to ourselves; however, it is
limited to 60 persons. If you have not contacted the Leights yet, please call 916-9849624 to reserve your spot and make your menu
selection. “Car Czar” Doug Brauner will be
our special guest speaker for the evening.
Rick Weidner is putting on the second
New Member Tour of the year on Saturday,
September 11. This is an invitation-only event
for those who have not yet participated in a
New Member Tour. Rick has done an excellent job of making our new members feel welcome and involved in the Club by initiating
the “G24” group. Thanks Rick, due to your
efforts, we are pleased to have more participation in many of the Club events this year.
Our Charity Auction is being held at the
home of Kern & Cindi Breaux on Sunday,
September 12. This is an annual event where
donated items of fun and interest, and a few
baked goodies, are auctioned off by the team
of Larry Wilson and Kirk Bradford. All the
money raised is donated to pre-selected charities on behalf of the Club.
The following weekend is the Carrera de
Sierra. This started out to be an overnight rally,
and still is, but has grown to include a tour
which ends at the same location. This year’s
destination is Truckee. Contact Rik Larson
for registration and information on booking
your accommodations.
Yes, we’re still listing September activities! Judy Hanna, Rich Swenson, and the

Leights have put together a camping trip at
Lake Almanor. It’s been several years since
we’ve had a Club-sponsored camping trip,
and this should be a lot of fun! Please see the
ad on page 5 for additional details. As different people may elect to participate in various
ways, the official event starts at the resort on
Saturday the 25th with a group dinner. Bring
a tent, trailer, motorhome, or join the “campers” staying at some local cabins. We’re sure
all will have a great time.
October activities will include a swap meet
at Silver Star Motors bright and early on Sunday morning, the 10th. We expect swappers,
buyers, browsers, and another great showing
of Porsche automobiles. This event has grown
over the past several years, and is becoming
another signature SVR activity. Our Drifter
editors, Elliot & Aleece Hoffmann are hosting the October dinner meeting with an Oktoberfest theme at Sudwerk in Davis on the
14th. They do a great job with this type of
event, and it’s a fitting salute to the heritage
of our special marque. The planned tour to
Death Valley has been postponed until perhaps next spring, but Sequoia Region has advised us that they have planned a similar event
for November 19-21. SVR members are invited to join them by calling Dick Arnold at
559-439-5497. Reservations are required before October 1, so if you are interested in joining them, call soon.
Sacramento Valley Region Presents

Rally Fee - $55.00 per car if received by Aug. 16; thereafter - $65.00
Tour Fee - $35.00 per car if received by Aug. 16; thereafter - $40.00
Preregistration is recommended.
General instructions for the rally will be sent around September 10th.

Fees include a Saturday afternoon social and barbecue at the finish.
There will be a Saturday afternoon walking rally contest. Start is at the
Raley Shopping Center in Loomis, approximately 25 miles east of Sacramento. Take the Horseshoe Bar exit on I-80 and turn right onto
Horseshoe Bar Road. Registration will open at 8:30 A.M.
25 rooms have been reserved at the Inn at Truckee. Call
(888) 773-6888; be sure to mention the Porsche Club
rate. The special rate and the rooms will be held until are

NEW MEMBER WELCOME
TOUR & PICNIC
SATURDAY, September 11, 2004 at 8:30 am
Twice a year, SVR puts on an event to honor and welcome its new
members. Any member & their affiliate, spouse or significant other who
has not attended a prior new member tour is welcome.
This free outing includes a fun morning drive through the Latrobe Hills,
Sutter Creek, and Fiddletown. We end in the Shenandoah Valley.
Lunch will be at the picnic area at the Montevina Winery. The Club will
supply sandwiches and soft drinks. You will have a chance to meet
other new members and members of the SVR Board of Directors, and
to ask questions about the Club. After lunch, we plan to visit the Villa
Toscano winery, or you can strike out on your own—there are many
wineries plus the Amador Flower Farm in the immediate vicinity.

Call To Order
President Kim Nelson called the July 21,
2004 Board meeting to order at 6:10 pm at
RPM Motorsports. Present were: Board
Members Steve Goltz, Aleece & Elliot
Hoffmann, Kevin Dougherty, Bill Keegan,
Mark Sides, and Frederick Rauch, constituting a quorum. Absent were: Tom Sisson,
Dennis Stettner, and Russ Hildebrand. Also
in attendance were Matt Deter and Rik
Larson.
Old Business
The minutes of the June 16 meeting were
approved.
New Business
Internet Based Message Board (Matt Deter): Matt has offered his services to set up
and maintain a service. There are still questions about hosting, bandwidth, storage,
threads for members, cost, implementation
& dissemination of information to people
who sign up for the service, and technical
aspects. Use policy also will need to be addressed. An email poll was suggested to determine membership interest.
2005 Board Positions (Kim Nelson): It is
time to seek nominees to serve on the Board
of Directors in 2005.

Enter A Cayenne, Win A Trophy?
That is correct. If you had entered your Cayenne in the concours or the autocross at Parade 2004, you would have won your class
and taken home a beautiful lead crystal block
for your efforts. At the Porsche Parade last
year in Tampa, there were two Cayennes in
the concours (both winning), a Cayenne in
the autocross (another winner), and a Cayenne won the rally (but hardly noticed). Just
which model will you take next year?

The competitive events (concours, rally, autocross, and tech quiz) all escaped the Texas
rains that had hit the area 10 days earlier.
The concours was on the main street (brick)
and stretched for a total of 5 blocks. The
rally covered an area to the west and north
of Fort Worth and finished up at the Texas
Motor Speedway, which was the site of the
autocross, driver education, and Club race.
Lead crystal trophies were awarded to Zone
7 entrants in the competitive events as follows:
