SPECIAL COLLECTION – This Weekend - The Little Sisters of the Poor are at our parish on next Saturday and Sunday June 25th and
June 26th 2016 to take up a collection for their Home for the Aged Poor in the Bronx. The Little Sisters welcome the needy aged into
their homes where they find security, friendship and the assurance of loving care. Please be as generous as your means allow.
They are very grateful for all of our past support for their work and look forward to being with us again.

Next Weekend – The Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa collection supports pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation in a
continent often marked by division and tension. Pope Francis challenges us: “Touched by Christ’s infinite mercy, may all the faithful be signs of the

Religious Education
The NEW required registration form for the 2016-2017 is available on our website www.saintjosephreligiouseducation.org . The registration form must be
completed in full. Students are not automatically registered. You must re-register your child for next year. Spaces are limited and based on a first come
first served basis.
Private Catholic School students who are going into the eighth grade in September and wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation at St
Joseph’s in 2017 must call the Religious Education Office (914-337-6383) to register for the program. This program is open to registered parishioners
only.
We are also looking for volunteers for next year’s Religious Education Program. Please consider sharing your faith with the children of Saint Joseph’s

Children’s Ministry
The Sunday Family Liturgy at 9:30am is looking for Families to get involved. We are looking for family volunteers to bring up the offertory as well as
youth lectors. Anyone who is in grades 3-12 is eligible to be a lector. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Bridget Lockwood in the

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever
you go.’…And to another he said, ‘Follow me.’…And someone said ‘I will follow you Lord,
but… ‘To him he said,’ No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind
is fit for the kingdom of God.’”
How often we hear the expression of a ‘Wake up call.’ Sometimes it is reflected in a health emergency,
a financial crisis or family need. We are shaken from our routine and respond to an important need.
During the summer months our pace often slows, a more relaxed way of living takes over – vacation,
diversion, rest. The scriptures today can call for a change. As Jesus turns and begins His journey to
Jerusalem, well intentioned persons commit themselves to accompany Him. They do so with
reservation. The little word ‘but’ gets in the way. The sense of urgency of a disciple is weakened, as the
challenge of discipleship is sounded. Pope Francis has designated all of us as ‘missionary disciples.’
My journey today is based upon my encounter and relationship with Jesus. His call continues, the
urgency of building the kingdom is real and repeated today. I ask myself, ‘what does it mean to make
the promise to ‘follow’ Him?’
